“My field study was an incredible learning experience. I was able to do it right here in the preschool on campus! I taught my own lessons and observed one child all year long, so we really got to connect.

We have a phenomenal education program here and I feel secure knowing I ’m getting my degree from Framingham State.”

- Katie M. Early Chi ldhood Education Major

When Katie first came on a tour of campus there was something about FSU that really stood out to her. She says, everyone here seemed really happy and genuine. I just got a good vibe. Katie chose FSU because she loves the atmosphere, and also because it offers a progressive system of field studies and student teaching that helps students find their passion.

Katie knew she wanted to be a teacher by the time she finished high school, but she wasn’t sure which program to get started in. After her sophomore year field study experience at Framingham State, she realized that she gets most excited about teaching the youngest students and chose to concentrate in Early Childhood Education.

Success FR AMINGHAM.EDU/CASA

ATTENTION ON YOU What’s the key to being a successful student? At Framingham State, it’s in the relationships you build. On the first day of class you will realize that our professors want nothing more than to set you up to succeed. So, don’t be surprised if they give out their cell phone numbers and encourage you to call with questions, or give you a giant smile when you stop by their office. For everything from help understanding an assignment to negotiating that work-life balance, our faculty members are here for you every step of the way.

MENTORSHIP When you can see your goal in sight, but don’t quite know how to reach it, a one-on-one relationship with a faculty member or peer mentor offers you the advice and resources you need to develop and achieve your personal ambitions. In addition, FSU offers mentorships with industry professionals outside the university who can guide you through career decisions and give you an insider’s perspective on your chosen field.

EXTRA HELP FOR EVERYONE At FSU we care about the success of each one of our students and want to help you reach your full academic potential. So whether you are struggling with a subject or just need a little assistance staying organized, our peer and professional tutors at the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) work with you to help you succeed in your courses — all at no cost.

“I can talk to my professors about everything going on in my life, career goals, classes, and what I want to do when I graduate. Whatever problem I have right now,

they make me feel like I ’m number one.” - Brittany B.

Biology Major

As the first one in her family to go to college, Brittany has had to overcome many hurdles to bring herself closer to her dream of becoming a pediatrician. From coursework to personal advice, she admits she could not have done it without the guidance and mentorship of her professors at Framingham State.

Brittany has also learned from her mentors what it means to help others. As a member of the FSU Aspiring Health Professionals Club, Brittany learned CPR and secured a volunteer position at Mass General Hospital. She now serves as the club president and hopes to help other students in the same way FSU has helped her. Upon graduation Brittany has planned a two-week volunteering expedition to Guatemala.

“ I chose Framingham State because it ’s known for doing a good job placing students and sending them to the right companies...”

- Chris F. Food Science Major

Chris’s love for Food Science extends beyond the classroom the campus Food Science club has been hard at work in a competition for Ocean Spray to develop a new cranberry-based product they think millennials will love.

From developing new flavors and food products to determining the amount of vitamin B that gets written on the label of your energy drink if you buy food at a store you can guarantee a Food Scientist had something to do with it along the way. Food Science combines the studies of chemistry, biology, and nutrition to solve real world problems; it’s an industry that’s fiercely in demand of new professionals.

Campus Life FR AMINGHAM.EDU/STUDENT -LIFE

RESIDENCE LIFE It’s no wonder so many of our resident students say they never want to go home. Framingham State boasts seven incredible residence halls with everything you could possibly need, including wireless internet, cable access, kitchen facilities, and laundry. Common lounges are a hot spot for socializing, but if you find you need a little quiet time, study rooms and computer labs are right in your building. And since everything on our campus is so easy to access, you need only walk out your door to get to class or grab a bite to eat.

HUNGRY FOR MORE A morning fix at the campus Dunkin' Donuts might be all you need to get going, but with healthy options and a focus on locally sourced and seasonal ingredients it’s easy to spend an entire afternoon hanging out with friends in the McCarthy Center. So, when it comes to pizza, a latte, or a “home cooked” meal, with more than eight different campus eateries, the Framingham State dining scene has it all.

DOLLARS AND SENSE Short on cash? Not to worry, a variety of meal plan offerings will keep you well-fed whether you live on campus or commute. You can also sign up for RAM CASH. RAM CASH is a pre-paid debit card that can be used for on-campus dining, the bookstore, laundry, vending machines, and even many off-campus restaurants and stores. You or your family can add funds to your RAM CASH account from anywhere, anytime on the mobile app.

STAYING HEALTHY If you’re not feeling well, you can drop by the Health Center, a walk-in clinic that offers free basic care to students, including routine exams, and treatment of illness or injuries. We also have a registered dietitian to offer nutritional counseling. More extensive treatment is covered by student health insurance.*

*Massachusetts law requires health insurance for all students.

“ I f ind t ha t i t ’s rea l l y ea s y to ma ke f r iend s here . . . You can join a club or meet people in class who share your same

interests. My freshman roommate became one of my best friends and

I’m way more outgoing now than I was in high school.”

A PLACE FOR EVERYONE The Center for Inclusive Excellence is known as a welcoming place for everyone, offering support and education on diversity issues for the entire FSU community. The center plays host to Diversity Dialogues where students, faculty, and staff come together to engage in deep discussions about issues of race, gender, class, and LGBTQ topics. It’s also where you find students relaxing, listening to music, studying, and learning from one another.

LIVE TO THE TRUTH Our founding motto, “Live to the Truth,” embodies what it means to be part of the FSU community. It’s the pride students feel when they see the black and gold and it’s part of our commitment to student involvement, engagement, and academic excellence.

GET INVOLVED Framingham State students are passionate about so many things, so whether you’re looking to connect with other people in your major or learn about something totally new, there are so many ways to get involved on campus. With over 30 student-led clubs and organizations to choose from, it’s easy to find something that interests you — and if not, you can always start your own.

“I was able to create my own group, called Student Leaders in Diversity. We talk about some really critical topics

and I ’ve learned how I can apply these things in my own life. I feel like I ’ve grown with the university.”

- Fernando R. Sociology Major, Psychology Minor

When high school buddies from Boston, Benni and Fernando both got accepted to FSU, they knew it was their chance to make the most out of the college experience. And having a friend to rely on doesn’t hurt when you have big goals.

Together, Benni and Fernando were instrumental in the founding of the University s Center for Inclusive Excellence and organized a student group that works in concert with faculty and staff to bring awareness to issues of diversity and inclusion on campus. When these two young men are not busy effecting change in the community, they might be found working at one of their on-campus jobs, playing a quick game of one-on-one, or chillin’ with friends on the lawn behind North Hall.

Through our initiatives to maximize sustainability, we have installed solar panels on campus and our newest facilities, the Hemenway Laboratories Science Center and the West Hall Residence Building, boast best-in-class ratings for green buildings. FSU’s latest acquisition, the Warren Conference Center and Inn, is located in nearby Ashland. This beautiful property provides students with access to 66 acres of conservation and recreational space.

KEEPING YOU SAFE Safety is a priority at Framingham State, which is why our friendly and professional University Police Department is on patrol 24/7. Late night shuttle service is available to get you to and from campus parking lots. Once you are signed on with “FSU Alert,” you will be notified of weather closings and any emergency situation via text, email, and phone.

RAM NATION As soon as you step on campus you will notice it — Ram Pride is everywhere. Framingham State students are proud to wear the black and gold, so if you’re a serious athlete or just like to let loose on the court, you will have the chance to compete to your greatest ability.

A PLACE FOR PLAY Wondering where all the games are played? The Athletic and Recreation Center showcases two basketball courts and a volleyball court with seating for one thousand spectators. Our Maple Street fields feature state-of-the-art turf surfaces for softball, soccer, field hockey, and lacrosse. Our ice hockey team skates at the newly renovated Loring Arena. Nearby Bowditch Field is home to our baseball team and also holds a stadium where five thousand spectators can cheer on our football team.

BE ACTIVE Take a jog through campus or get whipped into shape in Aerobics; there are so many ways to keep your body moving at FSU. The Athletic and Recreation Center is loaded with everything you could possibly need to train in style, including: free weights, cardio machines, multi-purpose exercise rooms, and a juice bar. Fitness classes are available to all students in yoga, spinning, kickboxing and more. If you’re more of the spontaneous type, all you have to do is look around to find a pick-up basketball game or a crowd to toss the Frisbee.

“When I started at Framingham State, Coach Kelley welcomed me into both the football brotherhood and the larger FSU community.

These opportunities have had a positive impact on my life as a student.

I am honored to call Framingham State my home.”

- Matt M. Criminology Major

Matt feels the Ram Pride when he sees the black and gold-clad fans cheering from the stadium, but when he s not on the field he spends his time serving others. Although he trained with the Army Reserve before coming to campus, Matt’s experience at FSU, volunteering for the Special Olympics, Team IMPACT, and as a student facilitator for Bystander Intervention to prevent sexual assault and violence, have helped to shape the person he wants to be when he graduates.

Matt holds two jobs while in school, working for the FSU Athletic Office and at an off-campus restaurant. When football season ends, he stays competitive playing club lacrosse.
