This day, July 5th, 1938, I see on the pictorial page of The Cleveland Plain Dealer the pic ture of ten men walking across a street in Beflin, Germany. These ten men have been ordered by the government to walk across a great thoroughfare, wi th baskets over their faces to show drivers how careless they m a y expect pedestrians to be. N o m a n has ever driven a car fo r one day but he has marvel led a t t he stu-pidity of the jay-walker .
No one having occasion to dash across the gre'at a r te r ies of t r a f -fic but well knows it 's a toss be-tween the quick and the dead. The pedestrian m a y be l ikened unto a toad, fo r he never knows which way a toad will hop by looking a t it, it 's jus t stupid.
The average driver m a y be lik-'ened to a chicken, t h e foolish thing is more ap t to r u n into danger than avoid it, i t ' s just gross stupidity.
Now, stupidity is g rea t dull-ness of the mind. I t is to be in-capable, wanting, slow, dull, heavy, foolish or stupid. Confi-dence men roam up and down the
