Lv 13:1–2, 44–46; Ps 32:1–2, 5, 11;

1 Cor 10:31—11:1; Mk 1:40–45

In Jesus's time, leprosy was seen as punishment for sins involving speech, such as gossip and slander. People thought that persons with leprosy could con-taminate others, so they were separated from the community for the good of all. Quarantined from healthy members of society, lepers were considered the living dead.

Although forbidden to do so, one leper had the cour-age to reach out to Jesus, pleading, "If you will to do so, you can cure me!" Although contact with the man rendered Jesus ritually impure, he did something no one else dared to do. He touched the leper, saying, "I do will it. Be cured!" Jesus warned the man not to tell anyone lest the deed appear as mere wonder-working. But the man could not restrain himself and joyfully told everyone of his healing. Today, humanity is afflicted with a disease worse than leprosy — mor-al and spiritual sickness. Unless treated, it might prove fatal.

For Reflection: Do I pollute my environment by my words and actions? Do I take part in parish penance services to heal my wounds?

Planning to Marry?Planning to Marry?Planning to Marry?Planning to Marry? The Diocese requires that couples planning to marry in the church begin their prepa-ration at least six months in advance. Couples must con-tact Fr. Ed for more infor-mation and to get started.

Join us for our February Genera-tions of Faith Event where we will explore the practic-es of Lent through the Operation Rice Bowl initiative. Every year we give these out at church, do you know what Operation Rice Bowl is? Do you know where the money goes? Are you acquainted with Catholic Relief Services? We will answer all these questions plus show you how to make the most of your home rice bowl and we will learn about five of the countries that Operation Rice Bowl supports. All are welcome. Plan to join us and start your 2012 Lent off on the right foot. We will give you the tools to make this the most meaningful Lenten journey yet. Dates are To-day, February 12, at 10:15 AM and February 13 at 6 PM.

St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News:St. Vincent dePaul News: In the Gospel today Jesus moved with pity touched the leper and healed him. Let us pray today for the grace to be generous with our gifts to help those who are suffering. By helping the Society of St. Vincent de Paul you indeed put your faith into action as you bring healing to the poor, hungry and weeping. Please consider bringing non-perishable food items to Church next Sunday for our local food pantry. Your donation will help a person or a fam-ily that is going through a rough time. No one in our community should go to bed hungry. Your support is greatly appreciated. Do you know someone or a family that may need assistance, please have them call 374-8800 and leave a message. Someone from St Vincent de Paul will contact them.
