Editorial

Dear Readers,

It’s important to remember that we all have magic inside us. –JK Rowling. In agreement with the above quote, I find writing magical making it the most valuable literary expression. Its mystic effect can penetrate a heart of stone transforming it to something phenomenal. The inculcation of passion for creative thinking and writing amongst the student is one of the major objectives set by PNG Paradise High School. ‘The Conch Shell’ has been a step towards it and it has served a great avenue to vent out students’ passion for writing and encourage original thinking within them.

Our student writers have put across pieces of writing displaying their creative thinking and writing skills. The write-ups included in this edition and the previous ones are extremely simple but allows us to peek into a child’s thought process and his or her unquestionable creative mindset to bring out a responsible piece of information. It is actually a lovely experience to see these young enthusiastic writers use their pens to voice out activities and happenings in school, initiating them to prepare themselves to do responsible journalism in the future.

I am thankful to all the young writers ‘enthusiasts who have responded to my call and penned their ideas for the newsletter. I also acknowledge constant hard work of the student writers Neevah Eberl, Laetitia Gareitz, Mimigale Samoa, Jemimah Paisawa, Courtney Baleo, Emilda Mapusa, Stacey Rawuth, Aurora Takendu, Aiola Mok, Jodi Pelis, Diana Aiu, Natasha Sine, Amelia Kangu, Hellen Tapaua who proved to be as catalysts in mobilising their fellow students to write their views and efficiently write ups. I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the designer Mr. Martinus Magis, my senior editor Ms Gilipasi, all the teachers and our school Principal Mr. Safak Deliismail for their constant support and guidance through the entire process of planning and publication of ‘The Conch Shell’.

Finally, from the team of ‘The Conch Shell’ I wish all the readers Merry Christmas and a Properous New Year!

During the fourth term of 2017 academic year most P.E. classes have taken part in the handball activity which was taking place at the Rita Flynn court. This activity has been sponsored by the German Sports Federation who provideda well experienced coach/players to help train students the different skills in playing handball.

The classes who took part were the grades 11R, 9O, 9C, AND 7C. The students were taught how to pass, catch, dribble, goal keep and to work as a team. So far the most important thing that the students learned is the value of working as a team since handball game is all about team communication. Therefore developing skills as team will help the whole team win.

NEW HEADBOY AND HEADGIRL

Touch Footy Competition

By Hellen Tapaua 11R

As the school heads into a new year, change is inevitable. One such change was the new sytem of class officials. Done away was the captain and vice-captain system, and the new system ushered in is the class President, Vice-president, Secretary, and Treasurer. Of the two senior classes 11R and 11k; Ewawariella Kora and Mimigale Samoa were elected as class presidents assisted by the vice-presidents Yangohilly Mengeap and Rex Milamala respectively.

They were then put up as candidates for the school president and vice president. They had their campaign speech on stage in front of the student body. Rex was the first one to deliver his speech, it was short and simple yet thought provoking. Yangohilly was the next one and he delivered a very persuasive speech that promises trust and cooperation. After that, it was time to listen to the winning speeches of the candidates for president. Ewawariella was the first to present her speech and it was good. It was followed by Mimigale who delivered a wonderful speech with confidence like no other. In the end it was down to the student body to decide to whom they will cast their votes and who will get the position. The election was done and after counting the votes the result showed that it was Mimigale and Yangohilly who got the most numbers of votes, making them the new headboy and headgirl.
