Holistic Health OTWAY: Hello,mynameisKeren,fromHolisticHealthOtwayinColac.Someoneaskedmerecently“Haveyougivenanythoughttoslowingdown,andperhapsretiring?”IknowIalwaysseemtobeonthegoandhavebeenrunninghealthcareclinicsinMelbourneandColacformanyyearsnow.WhatIsaidmightalsobehowsomeCroakerreadersfeel.“Whenyouaredoingsomethingthatyoulove,itisn’twork,itbecomesathingthatyouwanttoincorporateinyourlifeforaslongasyouenjoydoingit”.
“Whatisitthatyoudo,thatmakesyouenjoyitsomuch?”theyasked.Ithoughtaboutitandrealisedthatessentially,Ihelppeoplenavigatetheirwaythroughchange.“Oh,soyou’resortofacounsellorthen”theysaid.That’spartofit,butno.It’smorescientiDicandphysicalthanthat.Theyasked“Well,howdoyoudoitthen?”.IquietlyreDlectedonmyownchangesandrealisedthatitbeganwithReiki,overtwentyyearsago,teachingmehowthebodycanbeempoweredtohealitselfandbringasenseofdeeppeacetotherecipient.Butthegame-changerovertenyearsago,wasKinesiology.BasedonTraditionalChineseMedicineitconsidersallaspectsofaperson’sbeing–physical,emotional,mental,energetic,structural,nutritionalandbiochemical. TherewasaPublicMeetinginLorneorganisedbythenewlyformedDMLRSafetyGroup,onFriday12thMay.TheguestspeakerwasRichardRiordanMP.ThepurposeofthemeetingwastocoversafetyissuesinparticularforallroadusersonDeansMarsh-LorneRoaddue,inpart,totheincreaseofrecreationalcyclistsoverthepastfewyears. TherewasagoodattendanceincludingrepresentativesoflocalcyclinggroupsaswellasSimonGillettfromtheAmyFoundation.VicRoadsandtheSurfCoastShirewereunfortunatelyapologies,butthepresenceofaCouncillorfromColacOtwayShirewasmuchappreciated. Richard’saddresswasdividedintosectionsincludingpresentdayissues;generalconsiderations;shortandmediumtermsolutionsandDinallylongtermssolutions.Itwasdetailedandevenhanded,puttingemphasisonsafetyofcyclistsaswellashowtheirincreasedpresenceaffectedallotherroaduses.Richard’slongtermsolutionsengenderedfavourablecommentsfromthosepresent.TheseincludedsealingsomeoftheroadsaroundLorneincludingErskineFallsTracktoWickhamRdandMtSabineRoad,andKaanglang,KennettandWyeRoads.ThiswouldallowgreateraccesstotheGORandforemergencies.ItwouldeventuallycreateaviablealternativethroughtheOtwaysfromDeansMarsh-RoadtoTurtonsRd,withsafercyclingalternativesandanextensiveroadnetworkloopforvisitors.ThequestionandanswersessioncoveredsuchsubjectsasthedeterioratingconditionoftheDeansMarsh-LorneRoadaswellasroadsintheDeansMarsh,Muroon,Birregurraareas;lackofvisibilityforotherroadsusersduetothemanycyclistsridingwithoutlights;thepoorstandardofregularmaintenance;toofewandtooshortturnouts;theerraticperformanceoftherecentlyinstalledDlashingcyclistwarninglights;theinconveniencetoresidents,inparticularthefarmingcommunity,ondaysofroadclosureduetocyclingeventsandasuggestionthatthespeedlimitbyloweredfromBenwerrintoLorne. DEANS MARSH PRIMARY SCHOOL REPORT: SCHOOLIMPROVEMENTPROJECTS:UsingacombinationofPlannedMaintenanceFundingallocatedtousbytheDepartmentofEducationandmoneyraisedfromourschoolfundraisingefforts,threemajorprojectshavebeencompletedorarenearingcompletion.
Project1:Thebasketball/tenniscourthasbeenresurfacedandthechildrenareenjoyingplayingonthecolourfulcourtofblueandredtomatchourschoolcolours.Newbackboardsandgoalsringshavebeenerectedandwe’vepaintedthepoles.Thecommunityiswelcometousethiswonderfulfacility.Wejustaskthatpeopleobeythesignswhichsay‘Noskateboards,rollerblades,bikesorscooters’toavoidanymarks/damagebeingmadetothenewsurface. Project2:Plumbingworkshavebeencompletedincludingtheinstallationofanew22,000lwatertank.Wewillnowhaveplentyofwaterforourgardenbeds,drinkingandotherusesandshouldn’tneedtobuyinwater. Project3:IntheDirstweekofJunethe‘bumpy’asphaltfromundertheundercoverarea(whichis10metresby10metres)willberemovedandreplacedwithaDlatsurfaceofartiDicialgrass.Wewilltheninstallsomenewseatingforthechildrentoeattheirsnackandlunchfromandwhentheweatherpermits,holdFridayassembliesinthisspace.CAPITALWORKSFUNDING:Recentlywewerethrilledtohearthatourschoolhasbeenallocated$492,000inthe2017-2018StateBudgetaspartofthegovernmentsCapitalWorksProgram.Thisfundingwillbeusedtoupgradeandmodernisefacilities,includingtherefurbishmentofclassrooms. MASTERCHEF:Wow!Canourkidscook!!!TheGrade4/5/6studentsrecentlyparticipatedinourMasterChefchallenge.Ingroupsof3or4,thestudentsworkedinteamstoproducebeautifulmealswhichwerethenjudgedbyourteachingstaff.ThankstoteacherJennySteven(ourStephanieAlexanderKitchenGardenprogramteacher)forcoordinatingthisenjoyableactivityforthestudentsandstaff.ItcertainlywasgreattoseethestudentsusetheskillsJennyhastaughtthemaspartoftheKitchenGardenprogram.BelowaresomecommentsfromsomeofthechildrenaboutMasterChef.Kaiti-Itwasalotoffunmakingricepaperrollswithsweetchillisauce,spiders,fruitkebabsandbrownies.Ilikedithoweverybodyworkedtogetherintheirteams. Gus-Itwasfuncookingwitheach-otherandworkingwellasateam.Wemadetacos,applecrumbleandmilkshakes.Tom-Iwouldjustliketosaythateveryonedidagreatjob,itwasafunactivitytodoandIhopewegettodoitagain.Phoenix-ItwasalotoffunandIgottocookwithmyfriends.Wemadenachosandbabyberrypastriesandtheytastedamazing.Mae-Itwasde^initelyafunthingtodo.Itwasgoodthatwegottodocookingbecauseitisaskillthatsomepeopledon’thaveasadults.Myteammadegiantshellpastawithcarbonarasauceandagarnishofparsley.Ourdessertwasmangocrumblewithvanillaice-creamandchocolatesauceplusaplateofchocolatecoatedstrawberries.
