Lonestar Galveston

Rally Marines Beer Booth

on the Strand was a huge

success! Hooah!

“If you bought a Beer

from the Marines your

support goes towards the

widows & orphans fund,

wounded warriors, family

assistance, scholarships,

Toys For Tots and many

more charitable organiza-

tions”, says Bruce

Luersen, a Marine him-

self.

Volunteers were pro-

vided by Top Model

owned by Gloria Davis.

Pictured from Top Model

(pic 2) are Pirates Cherri

worked with Marines for

this great cause for sev-

eral years.

The Marine Corps

League was founded in

1937 by an act of con-

gress and signed by then

President Roosevelt. The

league was formed to

promote fellowship be-

tween former and current

Marines, to promote good

citizenship and to support

widows and orphans of

Marines killed in combat.

Corps Projects include

scholarships, family as-

sistance, Toys For Tots

and community service.

You can learn more at the

national website.

The Lonestar Galve-

ston Rally happens every

year and is 2nd only to

Sturgis in the nation. Ac-

tually, this year it could

have exceeded Sturgis

having over 400,000 peo-

ple converge on Galve-

ston Island over a

three-day period. Even

the famous Sons of Anar-

chy, (SOA if you’re hip)

attended.

The John G. Slocomb

Memorial Golf Tourna-

ment benefiting SAAFE

House was held on Octo-

ber 26, 2013 at the Liv-

ingston Municipal Golf

Course. The event was a

huge success, raising ap-

proximately $14,000,

which goes directly to

SAAFE House in Polk

County. SAAFE House

provides services to vic-

tims of domestic violence

and sexual assault. In

the past SAAFE House

has received the VOCA

(Victims of Crime Act)

Grant in the amount of

$80,000. This year the

grant was cut in half and

SAAFE House received

only $40,000. Money

raised from the golf tour-

nament will help defray

that loss and assist with

costs such as: funding

the 24-hour hotline, tem-

porary daycare, prescrip-

tion assistance and costs

of operating the shelter

(i.e. utilities, food, mainte-

nance, etc.) The shelter,

which is a modest home,

can house up to 15 indi-

viduals so, you can imag-

ine the grocery bill,

laundry and upkeep re-

quired! If you or some-

one you know is a victim

of domestic violence and

need help please call the

24 Hour Hotline at 936-

327-2513.

My brother, John Allen

Slocomb, and I work hard

to put together this tour-

nament in memory of our

father, John G. Slocomb,

who passed away in

2010. John G. Slocomb

was president and CEO

of First National Bank of

Livingston, a strong sup-

porter of community

events and an avid golfer.

We have no doubt he is

very pleased with the

hard work and dedication

we put towards this event

to help SAAFE House.

Our mom, Connie Slo-

comb, is overwhelmed at

the success of this event

and could not be more

proud of her children.

The event would not be a

success without the help

of our wonderful volun-

teers. We would like to

thank the following volun-

teers:

not be able to give

SAAFE House $14,000

Google wants more teachers to use its Google+ Hangouts video chat

platform as a means of delivering virtual field trips in the classroom.

To that end, the company is launching ’Connected Classrooms‘, a

new initiative that helps educators link up with organizations that can

provide an interesting tour or discussion via Hangouts on Air.

It’s pretty simple in practice. On the site teachers can find a calendar

of past and upcoming Google+ Hangouts, which they can then regis-

ter for clicking through to the relevant event page on Google+.

Teachers can then confirm their interest, giving organizations a better

idea of how much interest there is for a particular idea or venue they

have.

Minnesota Zoo, Seattle Aquarium, the American Museum of Natural

History and the Philadelphia Museum of Art are just a handful of vir-

tual tour guides that have already confirmed their interest in the

scheme.

The Connected Classrooms site also links through to a dedicated

Google+ Community page where teachers can learn more about

these virtual field trips and what’s currently available to their stu-

dents. It’s a novel idea that should promote the use of Google+

Hangouts in schools and by extension, some of its other services

and hardware.

Military Minutes

Peace is that brief glorious momentin history when everyone stands

around reloading. Thomas Jefferson

Washington,

DC – The U.S.

House of Repre-

sentatives voted

tonight to take

steps to clear

the backlog of

disability claims

at the Depart-

ment of Veter-

ans Affairs. The

bi-partisan

measure creates

a task force that

will evaluate the

current backlog

and appeals

process, and

then submit a re-

port with possi-

ble solutions.

“Our veterans

deserve to re-

ceive a re-

sponse to their

claims in a

timely manner,

instead of get-

ting the run around from

the government they

fought to protect,” said

Congressman Kevin

Brady, a Texas Republi-

can whose brother is an

Iraq War veteran and a

command sergeant

major in the U.S. Army.

“For too many of them,

their lives are on hold as

they wait for the assis-

tance they need and

have earned. That’s not

fair to them or their fami-

lies.”

The law requires the ad-

ministration to prioritize

the claims, ensuring that

the most vulnerable are

helped first. The legisla-

tion also directs the Sec-

retary of Veterans Affairs

to either implement the

solutions offered or to

provide justification as to

why the ideas are not

utilized. Backlogged

claims are defined as

pending longer than 125

days. Currently, there

are over 400,000 back-

logged claims in the sys-

tem.

Fairfax, VA – A bipartisan

group of 50 members of

the U.S. Senate and 181

members of the U.S.

House sent a clear mes-

sage to President Barack

Obama, Secretary of

State John Kerry and the

United Nations that the

U.N. Arms Trade Treaty

will not be ratified. Earlier

this year, the U.N.

adopted and President

Obama directed Secre-

tary Kerry to sign this

treaty, which does not ex-

clude civilian arms from

its scope and therefore

directly threatens the

Second Amendment.

“The Obama adminis-

tration has repeatedly

demonstrated its con-

tempt for our fundamen-

tal, individual Right to

Keep and Bear Arms,”

said Chris W. Cox, execu-

tive director of the NRA’s

Institute for Legislative

Action. “On behalf of our

5 million members, the

NRA would like to thank

those who signed these

letters for their principled

stand in defending the

Second Amendment free-

doms of all law-abiding

Americans.”

The Senate effort in

opposition to the ATT was

led by Sens. Jerry Moran

(R-KS) and Joe Manchin

(D-WV). Their letter,

signed by 50 senators,

states clearly that “as

members of the Senate,

we pledge to oppose the

ratification of this

treaty, and we give

notice that we do not

regard the U.S. as

bound to uphold its

object and purpose.”

A bipartisan group

of 181 members of

the U.S. House sent

a separate letter of

opposition. That ef-

fort was led by Reps.

Mike Kelly (R-PA)

and Collin Peterson

(D-MN).

“The NRA will con-

tinue to fight against

ratification of the U.N.

ATT, which under-

mines the constitu-

tional rights of

law-abiding Ameri-

cans,” concluded

Cox. “With 67 votes

in the U.S. Senate

being necessary for

ratification, these let-

ters send a clear

message to President

Obama and Secre-

tary Kerry that this at-

tempt to undermine

our Right to Keep and

Bear Arms will be met

with strong opposition.”

NRA- Established in1871, the National RifleAssociation is America'soldest civil rights andsportsmen's group. Morethan four million membersstrong, NRA continues touphold the SecondAmendment and advo-cates enforcement of ex-isting laws against violent

offenders to reducecrime. The Associationremains the nation'sleader in firearm educa-tion and training for law-abiding gun owners, lawenforcement and thearmed services. Be sureto follow the NRA onFacebook at www.face-book.com/NationalRifle-Association and onTwitter @NRA.

"Hands" Handley is a

well-respected USAF

fighter pilot. Here is his

short resume of accom-

plishments. Colonel Phil

"Hands" Handley is cred-

ited with the highest

speed air-to-air gun kill in

the history of aerial com-

bat. He flew operationally

for all but 11 months of a

26-year career, in aircraft

such as the F-86 Sabre,

F-15 Eagle, and the C-

130A Hercules. Addition-

ally, he flew 275 combat

missions during two tours

in Southeast Asia in the

F-4D and F-4E. His

awards include 21 Air

Medals, 3 Distinguished

Flying Crosses, and the

Silver Star.

Here is what Col. Han-

dley wrote in response to

Panetta and Dempsey's

claims there was no time

to send help to Benghazi:

“The combat code of

the US Military is that we

don't abandon our dead

or wounded on the battle-

field. In US Air Force

lingo, fighter pilots don't

run off and leave their

wingmen. If one of our

own is shot down, still

alive and not yet in

enemy captivity, we will

either come to get him or

die trying. Among Amer-

ica 's fighting forces, the

calm, sure knowledge

that such an irrevocable

bond exists is priceless.

Along with individual faith

and personal grit, it is a

sacred trust that has

often sustained hope in

the face of terribly long

odds.

The disgraceful aban-

donment of our Ambassa-

dor and those brave

ex-SEALs who fought to

their deaths to save oth-

ers in that compound is

nothing short of derelic-

tion-of-duty. Additionally,

the patently absurd

cover-up scenario that

was fabricated in the af-

termath was an outright

lie in an attempt to shield

the President and the

Secretary of State from

responsibility. It has been

over eight months since

the attack on our com-

pound in Benghazi .

The White House

strategy, with the aid of a

"lap dog" press has been

to run out the clock be-

fore the truth is forthcom-

ing. The recent

testimonies of the three

"whistle blowers" have re-

opened the subject and

hopefully will lead to ex-

posure and disgrace of

those responsible for this

embarrassing debacle. It

would appear that the

most recent firewall which

the Administration is

counting on is the con-

tention "that there were

simply no military assets

that could be brought to

bear in time to make a

difference" mainly due to

the unavailability of

tanker support for fighter

aircraft.

This is simply

garbage regardless how

many supposed "experts"

the Administration trot out

to make such an asser-

tion. The bottom line is

that even if the closest

asset capable of re-

sponse was half-way

around the world, you

don't just sit on your pen-

guin [posterior] and do

nothing. The fact is that

the closest asset was not

half-way around the

world, but as near as

Aviano Air Base , Italy

where two squadrons of

F-16Cs are based. Con-

sider the following sce-

nario (all times Benghazi

local): When Hicks in

Tripoli receives a call at

9:40 PM from Ambassa-

dor Stevens informing

him "Greg, we are under

attack!" (his last words),

Hicks immediately noti-

fies all agencies and pre-

pares for the immediate

initiation of an existing

"Emergency Response

Plan."

At AFRICON, General

Carter Ham attempts to

mount a rescue effort, but

is told to "stand down".

By 10:30 PM an unarmed

drone is overhead the

compound and streaming

live feed to various "Com-

mand and Control Agen-

cies" so everyone watch-

ing that feed knew what

was going on. At 11:30

PM Woods, Doherty and

five others leave Tripoli,

arriving in Benghazi at

1:30 AM on Wednesday

morning, where they hold

off the attacking mob

from the roof of the com-

pound until they are killed

by a mortar direct hit at

4:00 AM.

So nothing could

have been done, eh?

Nonsense. If one as-

sumes that tanker sup-

port really "was not

available" what about

this: When at 10:00 PM

AFRICON alerts the 31st

TFW Command Post in

Aviano Air Base, Italy of

the attack, the Wing

Commander orders

preparation for the launch

of two F-16s and advises

the Command Post at

NAS Sigonella to prepare

for hot pit refueling and

quick turn of the jets. By

11:30 PM, two F-16Cs

with drop tanks and each

armed with five hundred

20 MM rounds are air-

borne. Flying at 0.92

mach they will cover the

522 nautical miles directly

to NAS Sigonella in 1.08

hours. While in-route, the

flight lead is informed of

the tactical situation,

rules of engagement, and

radio frequencies to use.

The jets depart

What a difference a con-

vention makes! Six hun-

dred Texas members of

the Federation of Repub-

lican Women met in San

Antonio (October 16-20)

over an extended week-

end for their biennial con-

vention. It was held at

the Grand Hyatt on The

Riverwalk. The women,

and their guests, were

treated to a terrific lineup

of speakers that included

former, and present, of-

ficeholders, candidates

and TFRW leaders.

Some of the speakers in-

cluded RNC’s Texas Na-

tional Committeeman Dr.

Robin Robinson, former

Senator Kay Bailey

Hutchinson; Congress-

man Bill Archer (House

Ways and Means Chair-

man, now retired; Pete

Olson of Sugarland;

Kevin Brady of East

Texas and numerous

other state officials. ALL

Republicans, of course!

The “kick off” speaker

for the convention was

Governor Susana Mar-

tinez of New Mexico, who

has a great life story…es-

pecially when she came

to the realization in her

adulthood, along with her

husband, “I’ll be damned!

We’re Republicans!” She

is the first Hispanic

woman to become gover-

nor of a state and the first

Hispanic Republican

woman governor. She

will be an incumbent this

November 2014 along

with many of the other

speakers. Included in the

run for Lt. Governor was

incumbent Lt. Governor

David Dewhurst, who has

State Senator Dan

Patrick and Texas Agricul-

tural Commissioner Todd

Staples, all running for

the same position. New

faces, as well as old ones

on the block, for numer-

ous state offices spoke.

This included those run-

ning for Governor, Attor-

ney General, Land

Commissioner, Agricul-

tural Commissioner, Rail-

road Commissioner and

judgeships. Everyone

agreed to “stand up and

challenge the democrat-

liberal belief system;” en-

gage our community to

make a difference; and

starting now we are work-

ing for winning the next

election!

The emphasis for the

convention by the TFRW

leadership in looking to-

ward the future, was de-

termined to be

engagement (formerly

outreach) of those not

usually Republican vot-

ers; increasing our mem-

bership in Texas

Republican Women’s

groups by 10% or more;

supporting our candi-

dates and energizing our

grassroots supporters.

The new president, Jody

Rushton, from the Con-

ner Herrington R.W. in

Plano, will be leading the

way in this battle to keep

Texas “RED.” The ladies

are well aware that num-

bers of formerly ACORN

(Association of Commu-

nity Organizations for Re-

form) associates and/or

members started moving

into Texas from outside

states since the last elec-

tion of November 2012 to

“MAKE” Texas blue by

any means possible.

Their reputation precedes

them as they are well

known for cheating to get

the results they want. So

a battle is expected and

the ladies have already

started their work to fire

up Republicans, Tea Par-

ties and Independents

and whomever else they

can bring into the fold.

The finale started with

an 8 minute standing

ovation as Senator Ted

Cruz arrived from Wash-

ington D.C. He ate with

the ladies; inducted the

new president, and

board; and gave a terrific

speech without notes or a

teleprompter. Cruz

stated that we are in an

epic battle and that Mike

Lee from Utah has been

right with him all the way.

He said that we need to

continue to energize the

grassroots and add to the

tidal wave that has al-

ready started. He gave

the House of Representa-

tives accolades for their

standing up in adversity

and called them a “profile

in courage!” He said that

the Senators did not

stand together. If that

happened, we wouldn’t

need the cavalry and we

would have picked up de-

mocrats who are facing a

tenuous re-election in

2014. INSTEAD we have

gotten 1. MORE debt, 2.

NO Relief from regula-

tions and debt, and 3.

MORE pork barrel. He

stated that the politicians

who are not with us, the

people, are MOST

ANGRY about YOU, the

American constituents,

because you have kept

calling their offices; email-

ing them and, in general,

jamming up the works

soooooooooo he encour-

aged us to keep doing

that! Hold the elected of-

ficials accountable!

Spread the word and win

the argument on oba-

macare! What was ac-

complished, you ask; and

the usual democrat

phrase, WHAT DIFFER-

ENCE DOES IT MAKE?

This writer believes,

along with Senator Cruz,

that the answers are:

• TOGETHER we el-

evated the national de-

bate on the harm of

obamacare

• We energized the

grassroots.

• Democrats have

taken many stupid votes

specifically giving them-

selves a congressional

exemption from oba-

macare including the judi-

cial branch of govern-

ment and their staffs.

AND they added subsi-

dies to help them pay for

their special health insur-

ance.

• Democrats have

“played along to get

along” with the president

while favored were given

exemptions, while time

limitations have been ex-

tended to “certain” com-

panies, and “certain”

labor unions, but this did

NOT include individual

citizens, their families and

small businesses.

Together we can de-

feat them with their un-

American ideas;

anti-Capitalism stances

and beliefs that are way

out of line with our Judeo-

Christian traditions; the

inspiration of our found-

ing fathers and The Con-

stitution of the United

States of America.

Since when do we

purposely exclude people

from our most historic

monuments (unless work

is being done on them)?

In the stiff-necked de-

mocrat-produced SHUT-

DOWN, Andrews AFB

Golf Course was NOT

closed. Why you ask? It

is obama’s favorite golf

course and he wanted it

kept open for guess who?

The White House al-

lowed and promoted an

amnesty rally of largely il-

legal aliens to take over

the National Mall (I know

that I am repeating this

with new info though.);

BUT kept veterans our

veterans from the war

memorials and other

monuments. It took

nearly as many Parks

personnel to keep people

out as it would to have

kept things open. Thank

you Congressman Ralph

Hall (with wire cutters),

Mike Lee, Jeff Sessions,

Michelle Bachman, and

Senator Ted Cruz for

showing up and insisting

that the barricades be

moved! AND yahoo to

those men and women

who showed up on the

weekend; and piled the

barricades, out of the

way, EVEN TAKING them

to the White House in dis-

gust!

Have you noticed the

“RULING CLASS” PLAYS

BY A DIFFERENT SET

OF RULES? Where

does Congress get off ex-

empting themselves, their

staffs, the President and

his staff, and federal

judges from the abomina-

tion of obamacare?

(There may be others we

are not privy to know as

yet just as “certain” fa-

vored businesses and

labor unions do not have

to comply until whatever

date obama decides will

do.) I call it SELECTIVE

ENFORCEMENT!

Since when has a

president of the United

States been able to by-

pass Congress change

the LAW to suit his pur-

poses? Guess what? It

is not constitutional!

There seems to be a

disconnect with reality.

Why are normal political

beliefs called extreme, or

described as extremism?

This is coming out of the

mouth of obama, other

democrats and their min-

ions and has been ever

since he took over the

presidency. Since when

is smaller government,

less government spend-

ing and defending liberty

extreme?

Do you wonder if

Michelle Obama is now

proud of her country OR

is she just glad she is the

first lady and can live

“high on the hog” with her

many trips with friends

throughout the world and

her “rock star like” exis-

tence? We know who is

footing the bill, yours

truly.

Speaking about

Michelle, that reminds me

there is an old saying,

“FOLLOW THE MONEY.”

Like you I have wondered

why a Canadian firm

(learned that about

10/22) got the healthcare

website for our govern-

ment WITHOUT BIDS. In

fact I had no idea who got

the contract; but I won-

dered as it has been such

a FIASCO. Just found

out (10/26) that Mrs.

Obama’s Princeton class-

mate is an executive at

the company, CGI Fed-

eral. Her name is Toni

Townes-Whitley, Prince-

ton class of ’85. Both

she, and the first lady, are

members of the Associa-

tion of Black Princeton

Alumni. So far to date, it

has cost us $678,000,000

for a colossal disaster!

Other contracts that have

come to CGI over the

past FIVE years include:

$11 billion to build TABSS

(Technical, Acquisition &

Support Services) for the

Department of Homeland

Security and the Coast

Guard; $1.7 billion to dis-

tribute Relief for Hurri-

cane Sandy; $15 million

and another $900 million

to design and operate the

EPA’s IT Security for a

grand total of

$14,293,000,000. It is

great for CGI to have

friends in high places!)

This information has

been reported in The

Washington Examiner,

The Washington Execu-

tive Magazine, Fox News,

and the Bloomberg

News.

Obama has always

had “the road paved” for

him and has no idea what

the middle class or lower

classes have ever gone

through to succeed, if

they are able to succeed.

He has always had

“someone with influence”

who has gotten him to

nearly every stage of his

life starting with his entry

into the BEST private

school in Hawaii and his

admittance to some of

the most prestigious uni-

versities in the United

States.

Major health insur-

ance companies have

cancelled 100’s of thou-

sands of individual and

family policies, as they

cannot meet the require-

ments of the government.

Thousands of citizens are

getting letters from their

health insurance compa-

nies that their premiums

have been increased

anywhere from 50% to

115% and the deductibles

have skyrocketed!!! (In

other words, Justice

Roberts was right about it

being a tax. We will pay

the government so much

a month and still pay the

doctor the full amount be-

cause very few of us will

go over the deductible. It

was reported this 10/27

that there will be, at the

very minimum, 4,000,000

of our neighbors, and citi-

zens, who will be losing

their single care insur-

ance although they may

have not been notified as

yet. (Reported Fox News

10/26 by Ed Henry)

The CBO issued an-

other statement that they

are estimating that more

than 7,000,000 persons

will lose their company

healthcare. (10/28)

We were OUT AND

OUT LIED to about being

able to keep our doctor;

and most of us would see

a savings of $2,500 in our

family health insurance.

The average family of 4

will have an increase of

$7,450 per year. (Fox

News 10/22)

Obamacare, or the “af-

fordable” healthcare Law,

is an abomination that

was sold to the public on

one falsehood after an-

other! Because of gov-

ernment fees and

mandates health insur-

ance premiums have

gone up through the roof.

If you are a woman or,

believe it or not, a man,

you have to pay for child-

what sex you are or how

nies have been forced to

Nineteen-ninety-six

was a big year. We were

living in Atlanta, and the

Olympics came to our

town! We would be just

like the people we had

seen on television. I pic-

tured us walking around

in parkas, even though

we would host the Sum-

mer Olympics. I guess I

had watched mostly Win-

ter Olympics on TV. It

was a time filled with fun,

frustration and fear.

We purchased tickets

to the Modern Pen-

tathlon. Any event that

took place in three differ-

ent places and involved

horses, swords and guns

had to be pretty cool. It

was an all-day event with

an included shuttle bus to

transport us to the event

venues. I thought that

those events, along with

the swimming and run-

ning would give us a nice

taste of the Olympic ex-

perience with one ticket.

Equestrian jumping, fenc-

ing, running, shooting

and swimming – all in

one day! Unfortunately,

the event was split, and

we ended up with moun-

tain biking, still a pretty

cool event.

The mountain biking

event was fun, but it is

not the greatest spectator

event. I do have a fond-

ness for the independent

spirit and rule of the

sport, and for bicycling in

general. In cross-country

biking I have seen a team

member hold onto the

side of a van, speeding

along without pedaling,

while a crew member

hangs out of the van win-

dow and adjusts the

rider’s seat. That always

seemed a bit like cheat-

ing to me. In mountain

biking, there are no as-

sists. If a rider falls and a

spectator helps drag the

bike out of the way – dis-

qualified! Tire repairs,

adjustments, make-do

patch-ups are all done by

the rider and the rider

alone. I have seen riders

continue with tires held

onto the rims with shoe

laces, with missing seats,

and by literally running

with their disabled bicy-

cles on their backs. The

course is huge, so watch-

ing the event basically

was seeing the start, run-

ning to a spot in the mid-

dle to see them zoom by,

and running to the end to

see the finish. The big

finish was spoiled for us

when some big and tall

jerk crowded in front of

Kelly at the last minute,

blocking her view entirely.

My day was interrupted

by a wasp sting and a

brief trip to the medical

tent.

There were non-sport

events and festivals

around town every night.

We saw everything from

punk bands to Irish

dances. We bought pins

and lots of festival food.

We went downtown

with friends to enjoy the

concerts and celebration,

and to just be part of the

Olympic experience. For

years I had seen the peo-

ple in other nations stroll

around, wear the pins,

eat the overpriced food

and be part of the

Olympics. We were like

them. The little town of

Coldspring, Texas can put

on a nice parade or festi-

val. Imagine the same in

a town of about three mil-

lion, with a hundred thou-

sand foreign guests.

Down the road from

the center of celebration

we heard a loud boom.

One of us remarked,

“Fireworks! They must

be finishing up for the

night.” I don’t know why,

but I knew it was not fire-

works. We waited for

more booms and they did

not come. A huge mass

of people moved down

the street toward the cen-

ter, and were soon fol-

lowed by all manner of

emergency vehicle.

Some among us wanted

to follow the people and

see the activity. Others

pointed out if it was a

bomb or other emer-

gency, a second one

would send the huge

panicked mass of people

back up the street directly

back at us. We went into

a friend’s

office

nearby for

a better

view and

shelter

from the

activity on

the street.

We made

it home

late, and

after an-

swering

worried

calls from

friends we

slept. We

and many

others

went back

the next

night, just

to prove

we would

not be

bullied.

I recall

walking

by the

stage

pylon

where the

bomb was

left, just

40 minutes before it deto-

nated. Though it may

have been implanted by

suggestion, I have a

memory of a backpack

lying on the ground,

inches from where I

stepped. Though the

memory may not really

be my own, I recall a

frantic person at a bay of

pay phones near the

stage area. The memo-

ries may be real or not,

but they are a part of my

experiences of that night.

A gentleman named

Richard Jewell was

hailed as a hero. He dis-

covered the contents of

the backpack and alerted

the police, arguably sav-

ing many people. Later,

he was considered a sus-

pect and eventually

cleared of any criminal in-

tent. As a lesson for you

all, the condemnation

never really cleared for

A Penny for Your Thoughts

By Penny Uselton

Here are the reasons

why I will NEVER be-

come a democrat, or

even vote for a democrat

again! (Yes, I have voted

for a few.)

My severest complaint

directed towards

TODAY’S democrats is

that they have a proclivity

for lying about them-

selves and saying fabri-

cated untruths about

Republicans, conserva-

tives, tea party enthusi-

asts, capitalists and

ANYONE they want to di-

minish (Hermann Cain,

Tom DeLay, Newt Gin-

grich and now, Ted Cruz

are a few who come to

mind) to make them-

selves look better than

they really are.)

They are the “World’s

Best at Finger Pointing”

and relish setting the

blame on others,

whomever they may be.

They are money squan-

derers not interested in

being fiscally responsible.

They believe in spreading

everyone else’s wealth to

endear themselves to

those who may, or may

not, be in need to get

their allegiance. They

have most of the news

media in the palm of their

hand spouting off their

same old phrases in an

attempt to brainwash us

and keep their “low infor-

mation” followers in the

dark; and their “bleeding

heart,” holier than thou

snoots with them. The

more power they can

grab for themselves, and

take away from the Amer-

ican people…contrary to

The Constitution of the

United States… the bet-

ter they like it!

They have been vying

for the Hispanic vote by

pushing the repeated ille-

gals crossing into the

USA and the border intru-

sion by dangerous cartels

on the very back burner.

In other words, Arizona,

New Mexico, California

and Texas can go to

HELL! Now that the “af-

fordable” obamacare is

beginning to send out

shockwaves throughout

our health system (as

hospitals, insurance com-

panies, doctors and pa-

tients have been

savaged); Obama is

bringing up the topic of

AMNESTY for illegals

and REFORMING our im-

migration system to shift

the attention of our

thought processes away

from healthcare. As proof

of the pandering to illegal

aliens, when our veter-

ans, and other visitors to

Washington, D.C., were

banned from our national

monuments, the White

House allowed illegals to

have an Amnesty Rally

(10/8) at the National

Mall. (Incidentally, they

left a huge amount of de-

bris behind and a man

visiting from the Caroli-

nas, Chris Cox, brought a

lawnmower, rake, blower

and a hundred bags to

begin the cleanup job.

When the news got out,

he was later joined by

several 100 citizen volun-

teers taking several days

for the cleanup.)

They have, and are, intimidating American citi-zens, including those run-ning for office, byaccusing them of thingsthey have learned by get-ting inside information or

telling half truths aboutsomeone; and tightly cov-ering up anything thatshows them to be in thewrong. (Isn’t it interestingwe have heard no morefrom the two women fromChicago, who were “past”associates of David Axel-rod and had accusedHermann Cain of miscon-duct resulting in himdropping out of the 2012presidential race? ORthe accusations by “tinyman,” Harry Reid, thatthe Romney’s had notpaid any taxes in 2011;but never felt obliged tosay where his informationcame from? Did, or has,any of this been a resultof the “BIG BROTHER”NSA listening in on us orthe IRS gathering infor-mation? Then there is al-ways the good old IRSintimidation of all of ustaxpayers and particularlyzeroing in on Republi-cans, conservatives, teaparty enthusiasts andChristians and their vari-ous not for profit organi-zations. Having led thecharge to single out theaforementioned groupsand people, it was greatto hear that Lois Lernerhas resigned! It wasabout time. We havebeen paying her salaryand legal bills for sometime. Now she is on herown. It just sounds a lotlike the usual and typicalpower hungry, democratskullduggery. Might theyhave to pay the price? We hope so! We areglad to hear that Jay See Reasons page 28

Sex in the Woods

By Crystal Laramore

In honor of Hunting Season:

Last week I was drivingalong the road and for somereason just started seeing, really seeing my surround-ings. What jumped out atme was all of the Neonsigns. I happened to bepraying at the time and myconversation with God mor-phed from “thank-you’s” to“look at what your childrenhave created”. Then I won-dered if this is what he hadin mind for his children?Neon signs, busy streets, clocks, fax machines, cellphones we cannot seem toput down, email, internet, X-box, YouTube, Facebook, twier, tmblr, Instagram,Pintrest….it’s like we are allLinkedIn and checked out.

Several months ago myUB (Uncle Bill for you new-comers) and AC (his beerhalf, Aunt Cheryl) sent mean article titled “Shhhh, I’mHunting” and it resonatedwith a lot of my core beliefsabout nature and God andthe way our lives all seem tobe headed in a negative di-rection. For YEARS I havewrien this column and for

YEARS I have preached thatwomen were intended tonurture and men were in-tended to hunt AND gather.Period.

My very successful sister,Jacqueline Morrison, justtold me this past week thatshe loved nesting. I said “metoo” and she shook her headback and forth and said “Noyou don’t”. I said “Yes I do”and so began an eye-openingconversation. I don’t thinkit maers how successfulyou are in a career, if you area woman you like to nest.MOST women anyway. Andwe are happy to have ourmen do what men shoulddo…hunt and gather.

Men might be happy atwork but I bet they’re hap-pier in a deer stand or hunt-ing elk or speeding around atrack in a race-car than insome corporate meeting. Now, there are jobs thatsatisfy the wild heart ofmen but not many.

You often hear people saymen are defined by what the“Do” as in their job but I begto differ. I think that is justbull malarkey. I have knownmany a “successful” manwho is divorced and livingaway from his children; mis-erable at work and at home;checked out; stressedout.... Why do you thinkthat is? I think you MUST connectwith God and your family tohave a happy one. And it’skinda hard to connect witheither when you are tied to a

job…especially a job thatdoes not embrace GodFirst, Family Second and Ca-reer Third values.

It’s sad to see that ourworld is so dependent ongadgets that it’s actually“in” right now to turn off thecell phones at least one dayduring the weekend. Oneperson said it prompts yourfriends to just stop by.What a novel concept; face-to-face time instead ofFace-time.

Just to drive my pointhome I interviewed severalmen from across the nationto get their point-of-viewand their responses were soamazing that I decided toturn this into a series. Thefirst response is from PaulPhillips.

Sleep Well

Perhaps the world

would be a better place

if they told bedtime sto-

ries for adults so as to

comfort us, to ease our

fears, and to put our

minds at rest. For want

of a simple story with a

happy ending, a thou-

sand night’s sleep have

been dark and troubled.

And while I may never

banish my worries and

torments entirely, the

bleak hours and frightful

murkiness are somehow

softened by memories of

guns and dogs and deer

and roosters and fences

and old rutted roads and

mountain meadows and

trucks and on and on – a

million memories drawn

from a still-too-few days

afield.

Maybe you’re the

same.

Can you hear the

sound of your favorite

pair of boots crunching

through heavily-frosted

weeds and grasses as

you take those first,

furtive steps on a foggy

morning? Can you hear

that old barbed-wire

gate?

Can you sense the

soft glow emanating from

a far-away camp-fire –

the one you sought after

having gotten lost just

long enough to make

your heart pound? Can

you remember that

moonlit walk with your fa-

ther down a snow-cov-

ered, ancient logging

road lined with ponderosa

and white pine?

Can you smell the

damp sweetness after the

sage and greasewood

brushed against your

pant-leg while you stum-

bled to get into position in

the pre-dawn darkness?

Can you remember

that day last November,

when the morning sun

warmed your beard, and

do you recall how – in

spite of the warmth –

your teeth chattered

slightly as your gloved

hands struggled to load See SLEEP WELL page 30

Seems like we spend

a lot of our lives waiting.

When we’re little we’re

waiting to go to school.

Then it’s waiting for sum-

mers. Junior High. High

School. To wear makeup.

To go on a date. To grad-

uate. To hear back from

a job interview. Get mar-

ried. Have kids. Have

grandkids. Retire.

Lots of waiting. Some

of the waiting is a lot of

fun like waiting for the

birth of your first child and

wondering if it’s going to

be a boy or girl. That’s

the way it was when I

was waiting anyway.

None of this ultrasound

business or genetic test-

ing stuff. We just waited

to hear what the doctor

said. “It’s a boy!” YAY!

“It’s a girl!” YAY! No

wonder my nursery was

orange, green and yellow.

(And ugly, by the way but

that’s all the PX had)

As we get older we

sometimes have to wait

for things which are not

so pleasant. We wait

through a loved one’s

surgery or illness. We

know there’s a layoff hap-

pening and wait to see if

OUR name is on the list.

I think it’s a test some-

times. Of our character.

I wait in traffic every sin-

gle day which is entirely a

test of character though I

don’t equate it with can-

cer or something serious

like that.

Speaking of cancer…

I’m in a waiting mode

right now. I had some

biopsies of suspicious tis-

sue taken yesterday and

we’ll get the results on

Tuesday. It could be

nothing or it could be the

BIG C! Some time ago

that was a word only

whispered by the brave.

It was mostly ignored as

if NOT uttering those two

syllables it would make it

go away.

I’m very happy to say

that this is no longer the

case. We speak of can-

cer openly. We have

conventions, parties, and

walkathons. We have

support groups. We wear

pink ribbons and hats and

we have ‘Save the Ta

Tas” bumper stickers on

our trucks. Our doctors

walk us through treat-

ment which may make us

temporarily sick but bring

us out on the other side

sometimes altered physi-

cally but nonetheless

alive and well.

We learn from these

experiences whether it is

US going through them or

a loved one. You, dear

reader, should know by

now that I think there’s al-

ways something to learn.

Sometimes it is patience.

Or perseverance. Some-

times humility or grace

under pressure. In my

case, if it turns out I am

sick then my greatest les-

son may be to ask for

help and let others help

me. Independence is

usually considered a

strength but in these

cases it becomes a

weakness.

Yes, I’m pretty inde-

pendent so I always think

I can take care of it my-

self which is pretty much

how I got to this point at

this particular time. You

see, I dropped a table on

my toe; a 42” round oak

pedestal dining table.

Oh. My. Stars. Did that

ever hurt?!

Since I’m diabetic and

you don’t mess with

those things I went to my

doctor who noted that it

had been quite a long

time since I’d had blood

work done and mammo-

grams, etc. So I did all

that and here I am wait-

ing on the results of the

table dropping on my toe.

Sort of.

I guess, then, if it turns

Wait For It...

By Slim Randles

There were two little

boys down at the Dough-

nut Hole Café the other

day, standing outside,

just waiting. They didn’t

have long to wait. The

Greyhound bus pulls up

just about one each af-

ternoon, give or take a lit-

tle.

When the bus pulled up

and parked and the

brakes went whoosh,

those two little boys had

eyes like saucers. They

took in everything, from

the mud on the tires to

the snow clinging to the

mud flaps.

The driver stepped

down and helped her

passengers out, proudly

wearing the Greyhound

uniform. She had pride in

her eyes, too, as we all

know how that mountain

can get when it’s snow-

ing.

It’s always been

that way. There

have always been little

guys watching and won-

dering as the people get

off for their lunch stop.

Where are these people

from? What was it like up

on the mountain? I won-

der if I could drive the

bus someday when I’m

grown.

When we’re small, our

world and our view of it

tends to be smaller as

well. The exotic places of

the world – to an eight-

year-old – aren’t Singa-

pore or Nairobi or

Calcutta. The exotic

places tend more toward

Smithfield and Riverbank

and Oakdale and Cot-

tage Grove. At eight

years old, the world’s

horizon is Thompson

Ridge, rather than the

Pacific Ocean. But that

doesn’t make the world

any less fascinating.

Those little boys knew

that, after lunch, those

people would get back

on that bus (they even

have a restroom on the

bus, you know) and they

would go out of town in a

diesel rush and cross the

bridge on Lewis Creek

and then disappear. But

they know that bus will

be going right past their

grandparents’ house in

about two hours. They

asked and they know.

The people on that bus

might be able to look out

and see Grandpa’s dog,

Sadie, as the bus goes

by.

I wonder what Sadie’s

doing right now? If I were

on that bus right now, I

could get off there and

see. And someday I will.

Someday I’ll get on and

ride and I’ll know what’s

out there. I’ll know…

Poverty: Any lingering

doubts about the defi-

ciencies of Obamanomics

can be dispelled with one

piece of data: The U.S.

has spent $3.7 trillion on

welfare in the past five

years, with virtually noth-

ing to show for it.

GOP members of the

Senate Budget Commit-

tee reported that cumula-

tive spending on welfare

during the Obama years

has been five times

greater than what's been

spent on transportation,

education and NASA —

combined.

Maybe that shouldn't

be surprising. Obama,

after all, promised a "fun-

damental transformation"

of America. He's fulfilled

that promise with a

vengeance.

Means-tested aid pro-

grams now number about

80. Food stamps, with

more than 47 million re-

cipients, have gotten the

lion's share of recent at-

tention. But that's just one

of 15 food-aid programs.

No, we're not against

temporary help for truly

desperate people. But

welfare spending has

grown year in and year

out regardless of how the

economy has performed

or whether unemploy-

ment is up or down.

And a lot of welfare

spending is pure waste.

Just this week, the IRS

admitted to the disburse-

ment of $133 billion in

bogus payments over the

past decade under the

earned income tax credit

— a kind of direct welfare

transfer from taxpayers to

low-income workers.

Unfortunately, the

welfare state will only

grow.

A Senate report ear-

lier this year noted that,

based on Congressional

Budget Office projections,

welfare spending will rise

80% over the next 10

years. That's $11 trillion in

welfare spending over

that time. Just cutting that

growth to 60%, the report

found, would save tax-

payers $1 trillion. But, as

we've seen, that won't

happen.

Yet, surely all this

money must be making a

dent in all the poverty.

Nope. Today, 46.5 million

Americans live in poverty

and more than 70% of all

federal spending goes to

dependency programs,

like Social Security and

Medicare. At the same

time, nearly half of all

Americans no longer pay

any federal income tax at

all.

This nation was once

filled with proud workers

and businesses eager to

hire them. But, as noted

here Wednesday, a

record 90.6 million Ameri-

cans of working age are

no longer in the labor

force. Logic tells us they

have to be supported by

(1) their own savings, (2)

working children or

spouses or (3) welfare.

Increasingly, it seems,

(3) is the answer. The

Census Department re-

ported just this week that

49% of the population, or

151 million Americans,

got federal aid from at

least one program in

2011 — up from 94 mil-

lion in 2000.

The U.S., sadly, has

become a nation of de-

pendents, and Obama-

nomics is accelerating

the process. With debt at

$17 trillion and rising,

more than $50 trillion in

unfunded liabilities, and

fewer workers to pay for it

all we will soon be bank-

rupt.

A nation of welfare

dependents who won't or

can't work or pay taxes

cannot prosper. Instead,

it becomes stagnant and

unproductive. We're well

on our way.

Washington, DC – U.S.

Representative Kevin

Brady, leader of a key

health care panel in

Congress, issued the fol-

lowing statement regard-

ing a federal judge’s

ruling against provisions

of Texas’ new abortion

law :

“I’m disappointed in

the court’s ruling be-

cause Texas carefully

crafted a law that pro-

tects the life and health

of both the mother and

the unborn. Both are im-

portant.

“In light of the horrify-

ing loss of lives from

convicted Philadelphia

physician Dr. Kermit

Gosnell, it’s reasonable

to require doctors to be

able to admit their pa-

tients to a nearby hospi-

tal when complications

arise during such a seri-

ous surgery.

“I’m confident the rul-

ing will ultimately be

overturned.”

The government has

re-opened until January

15 and America’s debt

will be paid in full and on

time through February 7.

However, I opposed

the Senate-created

agreement because it

doesn’t solve the problem

of America’s dangerous

debt and deficits. Presi-

dent Obama and Con-

gress are kicking the can

down the road a few

months, but we really

need a complete solution

to get America’s financial

house in order for the

long haul.

Working with some of

the brightest conservative

economists in the nation

and President Reagan’s

former budget director, I

developed the Maximiz-

ing America’s Prosperity

Act or MAP. Rather than

allowing Washington to

continue spending and

borrowing far beyond our

nation’s means, the MAP

Act imposes smart

spending caps on future

presidents and con-

gresses, beginning to

shrink the federal govern-

ment to a size we can af-

ford, while providing the

services constituents

need – like national secu-

rity, veterans care,

Medicare and Social Se-

curity.

Rightsizing the federal

government is critical to

our nation’s future suc-

cess. Along with reducing

red-tape, it’s a proven

way to help Main Street

America produce jobs

again. Texas is doing

well, but under President

Obama, more than 90

million American adults

are no longer attached to

the workforce. That’s

worse than it was four

years ago. “Stay the

course” is no longer an

option to get people work-

ing again.

In addition to spending

caps, MAP includes flexi-

ble, strong guardrails to

keep the White House

and Congress from over-

spending when times are

good – or making drastic

cuts when times are bad.

When cuts are too politi-

cally difficult, Washington

often does nothing. The

MAP Act creates account-

ability and discipline to

keep all of federal spend-

ing in check to gradually

reduce the burden of gov-

ernment on families and

local businesses.

MAP establishes in

Washington a tool that

many states use to cut

obsolete agencies and

programs: sunsetting.

This is a proven process

where federal agencies,

many of them created a

hundred years ago, must

regularly prove their

worth to taxpayers today

or face elimination.

The MAP Act requires

every president to send a

budget to Congress that

stays within the

guardrails. And the com-

mander-in-chief must

rank the funding priorities

of the government from

most essential to least

essential so taxpayers

know which programs are

the most important. Your

family must set priorities -

why not the President?

The MAP Act also

gives every president an

item reduction veto which

allows the president to

strike frivolous spending

items. Congress can

override the veto, but this

should stop last-minute

special provisions from

being snuck into spend-

ing bills.

Finally, MAP ends for-

ever the threat of a gov-

ernment shutdown by

automatically funding the

government at 90% of the

previous year’s spending

level whenever Congress

and President fail to fund

the government. So when

politicians gridlock, the

government stays open,

but taxpayers win.

In the three months

before the debt ceiling is

again reached, the Presi-

dent and Congress

should sit down and

tackle the big picture of

America’s finances. The

MAP Act contains com-

mon-sense reforms that

both parties can agree on

that will make real

progress toward restoring

America as the financially

strongest nation in the

world. You’ve read so much

about the disastrous firstmonth of PresidentObama’s Affordable CareAct. Just remember: theflaw is the law itself, notthe website. This is whathappens when Oba-maCare injects 159 newfederal agencies, pro-grams and commissionsbetween you and yourhealth care.

If Washington can’t

create and run a website,

just wait until it starts

making decisions about

your personal health

care.

ANAHEIM, CA - Be-

neath the shadows of

Angel Stadium, the

morning was not so typi-

cal - as 15,000 Muslims

on tidy rows of woven

prayer mats stretching

from the infield to deep

center field bent forward

quietly in prayer, most

wearing brightly colored

robes and hijabs.

Muslims from across

Orange County flocked

to the stadium to cele-

brate Eid al-Adha with

prayer followed by the

khutba, or the sermon,

beginning at 8 a.m.

Tuesday. The event, held

for the second consecu-

tive year at the stadium,

was organized and

funded by the three

largest mosques in Or-

ange County: the Islamic

Center of Irvine, the Is-

lamic Institute of Orange

County in Anaheim and

the Islamic Society of Or-

ange County in Garden

Grove. (Can you say

"Muslim Brotherhood"?)

Eid al-Adha, or Feast

of Sacrifice, celebrates

Prophet Abraham's obe-

dience to God to sacri-

fice his only son,

Ishmael. The Quran de-

tails Abraham and Ish-

mael's willingness to

obey God and how their

faith is ultimately re-

warded; God stops Abra-

ham as he is about to kill

Ishmael, [you all got that,

right? Ishmael, not Isaac.

See, Allah was here be-

fore God, and the Jews

and Christians have

been hiding that story all

along and corrupting

Allah's word, therefore

Allah finally got fed up

enough to get the word

right and appointed

Muhammad (he of the

"last and best prophet"

title) to bring the real

word of Islam to the

world] telling him to in-

stead sacrifice a sheep.

"The festival of sacri-

fice is to commemorate

what Prophet Abraham

did and also realize that

we need to make our

own sacrifices in life,"

said Shaykh Mustafa

Umar, Islamic Institute of

Orange County's director

of education and out-

reach who helped organ-

ize the event. "So it

reminds us that we have

a connection to Abraham

and we have to make

our own sacrifices."

The holiday also

marks the end of Hajj,

the annual period when

millions of Muslims make

the pilgrimage to Mecca.

Muslims celebrate Eid al-

Adha through prayer,

sacrifice of a sheep, goat

or cow, and an exchange

of gifts with friends and

family members; families

who are financially able

sacrifice an animal each

of the three days follow-

ing the Eid al-Adha, and

share the meat with the

poor.

The event will likely

not be held at Angel Sta-

dium next year because

Eid al-Adha falls on Oc-

tober 4, 2014, during

baseball season. If that's

the case, the three Is-

lamic centers will not co-

host an Eid, because

there is no other venue

large enough in Orange

County, Umar said. (Oh,

I can see it now: Orange

County is about to get

pummeled with permis-

sion requests for plan-

ning and building the

United States most gi-

gantic mosque!)

State Representative

James White has joined

his East Texas colleagues

in the State Legislature in

urging Congress to sup-

port the extension of a

federal law enacted in

2000 that provides addi-

tional funding to schools

that have historically re-

lied on a federal revenue

sharing program for coun-

ties that comprise several

national forests.

“This law represents a

federal obligation to these

communities that gave up

land over 100 years ago

to create the National

Forest System," ex-

plained Representative

White. "Because of strict

environmental regulations

imposed in the 1980s and

1990s, revenue from pub-

lic lands fell drastically

during that period, which

led to the passage of the

Secure Rural Schools

and Communities Act to

restore this funding.

Along with my col-

leagues from East Texas,

I am asking Congress to

fulfill its obligation to

these communities and

extend this law so that

our schools can continue

to receive the funding

they deserve."

When land in several

East Texas counties was

designated as national

forests and transferred to

the federal government at

the beginning of the last

century, the capacity to

fund local schools was

severely reduced, and the

federal government cre-

ated a program in which

revenue generated by

public lands was shared

with the counties to fund

their schools.

"The Secure Rural

Schools and Communi-

ties Act is not a handout

but represents the federal

government's ongoing ob-

ligation to these commu-

nities for the sacrifices

they made to preserve a

part of natural East Texas

for the rest of the country

to enjoy. I am hopeful

Congress will recognize

its responsibility to our

rural counties and

schools in East Texas

and extend this law," said

Representative White.

Texas: Boom State USA

This story was actually

inspired by Houston (and

syndicated) Tell-It-Like-It-

Is Radio Talk Show Host,

father, husband, Chris-

tian, patriot and owner of

The Redneck Country

Club in Stafford,

TX...Michael Berry.

Whenever I am driving

I listen to 740 AM KTRH.

One day Michael Berry

was saying something to

the effect of “If the New

York Times and The WSJ

were headquartered in

Texas the world news

would be a lot different.”

He was commenting on

the strong Texas econ-

omy vs. most of the rest

of the U.S. Berry went on

to chastise the media for

not exploiting this great

Texas factoid. So...my

cover was idea was born.

Berry is right...there is a

reason people want to be

“Deep in the Heart of

Texas” and it ain’t all

about the BBQ! We are

prideful here, VERY

prideful and with good

reason. Whenever I drive

down long country roads

and see the Texas State

carved into wood or

ectched into glass or

drawn on the side of an

old, dilapidated barn my

heart skips a beat as big

as...well, you know!

A friend of mine said “I

personally think there are

actually two issues at

play...of course, low

taxes, smart regulation,

and fair courts are key,

but the other driver here

is the people and the

spirit of TEXAS. The cul-

ture, strength and state-

pride that exists in Texas

makes the whole picture

come together. Obvi-

ously, not everyone in the

U.S. understands this

Texas sized spirit, but

those of us who live in

the Lone Star State, feel

it and get it.

The following is a

summation from Gover-

nor Perrys’ interview with

USA Today:

“How do you createopportunity? As governorof the state that has cre-ated three out of every 10jobs in America over thelast 10 years, that's whatI get asked most often. My reply is simple: It's nota trade secret, it's com-mon sense. We maintainlow taxes, smart regula-tions and fair courts.

OUR VIEW: Deep in theheart of self-promotion

The results are indis-putable; despite a popu-lation surging by 1,000people a day, our unem-ployment rate is consis-tently below the nationalaverage, dropping to

6.4% just last month.

No doubt our record ofsuccess makes statesthat overtax, overregulateand overlitigate nervous. It should.

But every state in Amer-ica can do what Texashas done. They just haveto be willing to compete.

Competition drives statesto be more efficient andeffective, and get themost out of every dollarand every hour we invest. It's the antithesis to biggovernment controllingour lives.

That's why people whobelieve in competition, like myself, must spreadthe word about a betterway of doing business, especially since Washing-ton won't reverse courseon big government any-time soon.

The Texas model of suc-cess means more oppor-tunities, better jobs andbetter lives for Texans.Companies moving fromhigh-tax, high-regulatorystates to low-tax, pro-growth states like Texashave a greater chance togrow and create evenmore jobs.

In fact, in just the past 15months, dozens of Cali-

fornia companies havepublicly announced plansto relocate or expand inTexas, totaling more than12,000 jobs.

It's important for businessleaders trapped in un-friendly states to hearwhat Texas has to offer.Equally important is theneed to push the conver-sation about competitionso states such as Illinois,Missouri and Marylandengage in serious discus-sions about how to im-prove their jobs climate.

Competition raises every-one's performance, andthat's good for our na-tional economy.

If states decide to stay

the course of big govern-ment, Texas offers resi-dents and industries tiredof high taxes and big gov-ernment the option to pur-sue their dreams in aplace where they're freeto excel.

Left to its own, big gov-ernment only gets bigger, tries to do more and doesit poorly. Only by reignit-ing our national passionfor competition can wecreate jobs, grow oureconomy and contain biggovernment.”

No doubt our record makes states that overtax,

overregulate and overlitigate nervous. It should.

Muslims in America are

trained to spend a lot of

time complaining about

Islamophobia. But some

Muslims from Dearbor-

nistan only learned what

the real thing was when

they made their pilgrim-

age to Mecca.

Like so many Dear-

bornies, they were Shi-

ites. And Saudi Arabia is

a Sunni country.

A group of Americansvisiting Saudi Arabia toperform Hajj were threat-ened and attacked earlierthis week on Oct. 16 by aradicalized group of ex-tremists. When they en-countered a group thatidentified themselves asnot only Americans, butalso as Shiite Muslims, they were threatened andattacked by the group ofmen, who were appar-ently armed with knivesand other blades.

In continuing the as-sault, the men alsoshouted “We’re going todo Karbala all overagain,”

The Americans fled thetent area, which theSaudi government had

specifically designated forAmerican and Europeanpilgrims. During the es-cape, many of the group, almost entirely U.S. citi-zens and mostly hailingfrom Dearborn, Michigansuffered bruises (in onecase, due to an at-tempted strangulation),concussions, brokenbones, and black eyes.

During the attack, themen reportedly shouted“Our [holy pilgrimage] willbe complete once wehave killed you, rippedout your hearts and eatenthem, and [then] rapedyour women.”

Nothing says Holy pil-

grimage like a little heart-

eating and

woman-raping. And who

are we to judge their

heart-eating rape culture

anyway?

Radicalized extremists?

So that must mean that

the heart-eaters and

rapists weren’t represen-

tative of the moderate

Saudi population and

government in general.

Victims of the attackreported that nearby po-lice refused to take ac-tion, and in some caseswere openly laughing atthe attack. The Ameri-

cans approached otherofficers, including one de-scribed as a “lieutenantwith stars on his shoulderpads.” They reported theattack and showed policevideo footage of the at-tack taken on cellphones.

The “lieutenant” confis-cated the phones and im-mediately deleted thevideos in front of onlook-ers. Without comment, hereturned the phones totheir owners and left.

It’s almost like the Saudi

population and govern-

ment is a bunch of radi-

calized extremists. But

we all know that’s impos-

sible.

“I personally thought itwas the end,” said one ofthe victims of this attack,a dentist from Michigan, not wishing to be identi-fied for fear of reprisalfrom the Saudi police orother extremists.

So the Saudi police are

now “extremists”?

Doesn’t that mean the

entire Saudi system is

“extremist”?

The attackers are be-lieved to be of the Salafisect, more popularlyknown as Wahabis, whoare often associated with

strong anti-Shiite view-points. Critics believe thatmany of Al-Qaeda’smembers subscribe tothe Salafi belief system.

Really? There are Wah-

habis in Saudi Arabia; a

Wahhabi country? I’m

shocked. So that’s only a

tiny minority of twenty

million extremists.

Members of the groupalso turned to the U.S.Embassy in Saudi Arabiafor assistance, but weretold help could only beprovided if members ofthe group had died in theattacks.

Non-Saudis turning to the

US embassy whose sole

task is to funnel Saudis

into the United States at

the directive of a State

Department that asks

how high every time the

Saudis tell it to jump.

Surprising that didn’t go

well.

In countries run by our

“moderate” oil-rich allies,

the US embassy is every

bit as helpful as the local

authorities. That is un-

less you’re a Saudi with

terrorist ties looking for a

visa to the US.

This incident is the lat-est in a string of attacksagainst Westerners inSaudi Arabia. In differentincidents in past years,Shi’ite Imams from theUnited States andCanada were either as-saulted or arrested forcomplaining about as-saults. The previous in-

cidents, as well as thisweek’s attack, all re-quired medical treat-ments.

And if Shiites owned

Mecca and were a ma-

jority in the region, then

Sunnis would be treated

about as well.

Human rights and sepa-

ration of mosque and

state are alien notions in

the Muslim world. Who-

ever has the most power

kicks around everyone

else. That’s what the

Syrian Civil War is really

about.

The Dearbornies might

have gotten away from

all that in the United

States, but instead

they’ve chosen to push

Islamization which per-

petuates the same con-

flicts that they found in

Saudi Arabia.

Thanksgiving

By Summer Keys

No, it's not just that timeof year that we visit with ourfamilies, eat large amount offood, lounge on the couchand watch TV. It isn't just atime for the kids to drive uscrazy, hopped up on sugarand adrenaline...for aWEEK! Thanksgiving has adeeper meaning and root.

Thanksgiving is alwaysthe 4th Thursday in Novem-ber. It has been an annualtradition since 1863 whenRepublican President Abra-ham Lincoln proclaimed anational day of "Thanksgiv-ing and Praise to our benefi-cent Father who dwelleth inthe Heavens."

The day of which Ameri-cans call the "First Thanks-giving" was originallycelebrated by the Pilgrimswith the American Indians, after their first harvest in theNew World in 1621.Thefeast lasted 3 days. I can'timagine eating ThanksgivingDinner for 3 days. The NewEngland Colonist were ac-customed to regularly cele-brating "thanksgivings" ordays of pray thanking Godfor blessings such as Militaryvictory or the end of adrought.

The Pilgrims and Indianscelebrated Thanksgiving in

peace, together. I don't knowabout your family but minedoesn't do anything peace-fully, its always loud, crazy, chaotic and FULL of drama. We start planning weeks inadvance so everyone canbe together. Everyone startscooking and preparing ( thisis where the drama comesin) differing of opinions onrecipes and of what thingsshould be cooked, when weshould eat. The kids run inand out of the door, they areunderneath everyone, in theway, laughing, giggling andalways moving (that's theloud and chaotic part). Fi-nally dinner is prepared andready to serve.

Traditionally everyone sitsdown to eat a plethora offood . This is where all thehard work comes together.Everyone gathers at thetable, plates and silverwareare handed around. Individ-ually everyone says whythey are thankful, and in theend we are all thankful forour families even though itisn't always peaceful. Someof the most beautiful memo-ries are made around thedinner table together as afamily giving thanks to Godfor our loud, crazy, chaoticand drama filled families andlives.

This year the real dramawill start in homes all acrossAmerica when we turn onour televisions to watch theDallas Cowboys VS theOakland Raiders. FYI, didyou know the Texas Sta-dium is an open stadium soGod can watch he Cowboystoo?

Submied by Penny Useltonwho lives with her husbandJack in Houston and Liv-ingston Texas and is from Minnesota! Penny is one of“those” people who got hereas soon as she could!

Texas has become a

MONSTER non-stop job

creator for the last ten

years. The High Rev em-

ployment has occurred

because of its’ population

growth and the state’s fol-

lowing assets:

• Geography - Texas

is on the Gulf of Mexico

border by Mexico and in

close proximity to Latin

America, its biggest trad-

ing partners.

• Demography –

New workers from prima-

rily Mexico have helped

to fuel the growth.

• Geology – New oil

sale access and ad-

vances in technology

have helped to fuel the

economy and the job

market of over 1,000,000

workers.

• The labor market

growth has risen 6.4%

(Bureau of Labor Statis-

tics 2013) and includes

construction, manufactur-

ing, finance, forestry,

farming and mining.

Texas is diversified in

new areas and has be-

come a major hub of

computer development of

components and sys-

tems. The medical center

in Houston brings in peo-

ple (160,000 daily) from

all over the world

(18,000) and employs

over 106,000 personnel.

Additional drivers of

Texas economic prowess:

• Houston’s seaport,

which THE BUSIEST and

the MOST VALUABLE in

exports of our country,

can boast over 2,000,000

tons of cargo are trans-

ported annually pouring

$178.5 billion into the

Texas economy yearly. In

other words, Texas is

NUMBER 1, the port is an

anchor of the state econ-

omy and it is in a PRIME

LOCATION! This pro-

duces over 1,000,000

jobs. (In 2012 $264.7 bil-

lion were exported out of

the port of Houston.)

• In addition,

Laredo, Texas is the

largest inland port in the

United States and han-

dles a good deal of import

and exports at their port.

• Three of the

fastest growing cities in

the United States are

Austin, Dallas and, of

course, Houston!

• Texans believe in

hard work, risk taking and

don’t mind a little brag-

ging with it. This along

with the state’s RIGHT

TO WORK policy (You

don’t have to become a

member of a labor

union.); fewer state regu-

lations on business; and

TORT REFORM have

proven to be a winning

combination!

• There are opportu-

nities galore in Texas as

the cost of living is low;

there is NO INCOME

TAX; and the JOBS are

there!

• Texas can boast

that it is the Number 1

state in the United States

with the most farms and

acreage used for farming.

“Cotton is King;” and na-

tionally Texas is first in

sheep and goat products.

Watermelons, grapefruit

and cantaloupe make up

the important fruit crops.

• The gross product

for Texas in 2011 was

$1,332 trillion which was

the second highest in the

USA.

• 6 of the top 50 For-

tune 500 companies were

from Texas and 51 Texas

companies are listed in

the Fortune 500 top com-

panies.

• If Texas were a

sovereign state, it would

be listed as the 14th

largest world economy

(GDP).

Other states, even those

along the southern border

with Mexico, cannot repli-

cate what Texas has to

offer. Texas has one of

the highest population

growths with well over

1,000 + coming on a daily

basis from other states to

work and live. (Austin

American-Statesmen,

IRS Stats)

Rumor Has It...I can't substantiate the

following but have heard

discussed in congres-

sional testimony and on

talk-radio, a news source

second ONLY to

TDGT’s...

...Raised by a Congress-

man during hearings on

Monday of this past week

- Buried in the massive

amounts of "I Accept"

wavier and acknowledge-

ment language on the Af-

fordable Care Act

application website, is the

statement that by com-

pleting the application,

the applicant agrees to

waive any right to pri-

vacy, including the pri-

vacy legally mandated

involving your medical in-

formation, as required

under the Health Informa-

tion Protection Act

(HIPA). So in order to

apply (as most Americans

are compelled to do), you

must waive your legally

protected rights...........

Here is a question: If it is

my legal right, how

can the government force

me to waive it? Doesn't

this then violate the inher-

ent definition of the word

"Right"?

Lots of dialogue on

talk radio - the informa-

tion you place on the ap-

plication website is

anything but secure! And

if you go to sit with an

ACA Navigator, they

place your information on

a website. And if you call

the non-functioning 800

number, they place your

information on the web-

site. And it is incredibly

vulnerable to hacking and

identify theft...

I listened to one radio

talk show host (Hugh He-

witt - an attorney) who is

saying that under NO cir-

cumstances will he place

his personal information

on this website...That it's

pretty much a guaranteed

step towards total identity

theft.

As for those hand-wringing

about IFR clearances, border

damage, landing rights, political

correctness and dozens of other

reasons not to act -- [ignore]

them. It is time our "leadership"

get its priorities straight and put

America's interests first. The end

result would be that Woods and

and a clear message would have

been sent to the next worthless

that it is not really a good idea to

"tug" on Superman's cape.

Of course all this depends

upon a Commander In Chief

more concerned with saving the

lives of those he put in harm's

way than getting his crew rested

for a campaign fund raising

event in Las Vegas the next day.

It also depends upon a Secretary

of State who actually understood

"What difference did it make?",

and a Secretary of Defense who

was watching the feed from the

drone and understood what the

attack consisted of instead of

making an immediate response

that "One of the military tenets is

that you don't commit assets until

you fully understand the tactical

ding me]!

Ultimately it comes down to

the question of who gave that

order to stand down? Whoever

that coward turns out to be

should be exposed, removed

REASONS

Sekulow’s group, theACLJ (American Centerfor Law and Justice)where he is their chiefcounsel, has added the5th IRS official to suefrom the IRS for infringingon our rights.

Through intimidation, outright lies, and obfusca-tion, they have brain-washed the lowinformation people andgotten their lemmings ineducation to re-write his-tory; agree to the validityof Mother Earth greenpolicies; embrace globalwarming; and accept thepremise that our country, our people and our his-tory of actions is NOT ex-ceptional so theyapologize for us. This ispure, unadulterated pop-pycock of the first order!

They have a “record”of eviscerating our mili-tary to the degree thatduring Jimmy Carter’spresidency (We thoughtno one could be worsethan him as president.(We were wrong!) Whennearly every helicopter,FINALLY sent to rescueour American hostages inIran, broke down as theywere not up to snuff withtheir cannibalized equip-ment. (During that erathe military was short ofeverything and men wereresigning left and right. This is happening rightnow as I speak…drovesof resignations.) RossPerot, a business execu-tive who owned EDSfrom Texas successfullyrescued his company’speople, also hostages inIran; but our government

couldn’t. Good grief! Ithink the democrat presi-dent, who lost his bid fora second term, shouldhave apologized to thecountry!

On their “like to list” istheir desire to take awayour guns, any and all, al-though most just say thatthey only want to elimi-nate assault weaponry;clips that hold too muchammunition and whateverthey can dream up at theappropriate time to con-fiscate; and they use un-fortunate “mad” men’sactions e.g. BostonMarathon, NewtownShootings, the Navy YardMassacre for the excuseto confiscate as theNazi’s and Communistsdid when they found theiropportunity.

Just a few addedthoughts:

• The RepublicanParty formed to end slav-ery• Although accusedof wanting to starve chil-dren and old people, nothing could be furtherfrom the truth. Republi-cans give way more oftheir own personal wealthto charity than democratsever thought of doing. They (democrats) are, onthe whole) stingy giversof their own monies andabout 60% of them areon the dole of the Ameri-can taxpayer.• Republicans be-lieve in offering a helpinghand to allow people tohave pride in themselvesby being able to take careof themselves instead ofreceiving constant aidfrom the government.

They believe in schoolvouchers to help poorercommunity children to getinto better schools. De-mocrats are against thisas they want to keep theteacher unions in their hippockets. AND if thepoorer communities areless educated and be-holding to them withoutquestioning the democ-rats…and their motives…so much the better.• When DwightEisenhower (R) waspresident the first civilrights legislation waspassed. It was the VotingRights Act of 1957 and itwas set up to eliminatediscrimination at thepolls. It could never havebeen passed without thewholesale support of theRepublicans. They havenever kept genuine vot-ers from voting; but nowEric Holder and the de-mocrat party is trying tostop Voter ID legislationin various states. Theyare accusing Republicansof discrimination. Theysay they are trying to in-sure that there is NOVOTER FRAUD in ourelections. • A little known factin the history of the Na-tional Rifle Association isthat it was formed to helparm Black Americans sothat they could protectthemselves and theirfamilies; but democratsare putting the NRA in theleague of bad people whowant to kill others or pro-mote guns that kill othersrather than purposes ofself protection and hunt-ing.• Mario Cuomo said (Iheard him and would havefallen if I had not been sittingin a chair.) that “if George

W. Bush was elected, Re-publicans will rape ourwomen.” None otherthan Bill Clinton who weknow as always, aboveboard and truthful in hisstatements…as long asthe definition of “is” isclear, stated…”Blackchurches will burn asthey did when I wasgrowing up in Arkansas,”His reminiscence wasWRONG. According torecords, this did not hap-pen. Hillary, his wife inname only, gave an ac-count of being shot atwhen visiting Iraq. Itturned out that it neverhappened. Surprise!Surprise!• Recently when theparents of those killed inBenghazi came to testifyin the House of Repre-sentatives, the democratson the committee (exceptfor two) took a break andnever had the courtesy toreturn to listen to the be-reaved parents. The wit-nesses realize that theywere lied to from the getgo by TOP officials of ourgovernment which in-cluded our president andhis Secretary of State. The government has nevergotten back to the parents;the democrats that did notreturn to hear the parentsmight as well have slappedthem in the face; and there isno excuse for the fabricatedstory given these Americanswho have lost their sons try-ing to protect others. In addi-tion there is still the lingeringquestion, WHO gave the or-ders to “stand down”?• After listening to Sen-ator Ted Cruz for a numberof hours and hearing whathe had to say in his fili-buster September 24-25;and then hearing the

spiteful commentary ofdemocrat leadership inthe Senate, it solidifiedmy many objections tothe democrat party. Theremarks they have madeabout Senator Cruzshowed them for whatthey are: arrogant, mealymouthed, fact twist-ing weasels. Unfortu-nately, there are a fewRHINOS and establish-ment Republicans likethis. Both parties haveofficials who have a lackof concern for their con-stituent’s desires e.g. NOto obamacare. The divi-sive behavior they hadengendered; and, are stillengendering within theGOP and democrat party, was created by themalone with their unjusti-fied criticism of those try-ing to truly represent usand work for our interestsby genuine problem solv-ing. They do not want togive up the “limelight,”nor power they have heldin the past. They are be-grudgingly continuingtheir barrage of attackson others, including teaparty groups and Chris-tian fundamentalists andfocusing on the plight ofillegal aliens, youngwomen who need birthcontrol pills and homo-sexual rights. Give us abreak! This time they willnot be able to hang on totheir offices as easily asthey have in the past.More and more people arestarting to realize that theyare being played with; hav-ing their freedoms takenaway; and it is not the wayour country should go.

Frankly, they are not mykind of people nor shouldthey be yours!

Social Media Business BlockTwitter Raises Price

Range for its IPO (The

New York Times/Deal-

book) Twitter is feeling

less timid ahead of its im-

minent initial public offer-

ing. On Monday morning,

the company said it had

raised the price range for

its IPO to $23 to $25, sig-

naling the company's

bullish outlook ahead of

its trading debut on

Thursday. Reuters The

social network kept the

offering size at 70 million

shares. That means it will

raise up to $2 billion if an

overallotment option of

10.5 million shares is ex-

ercised. USA Today Twit-

ter executives, including

CEO Dick Costolo, are in

the middle of an IPO

roadshow, meeting

prospective investors in

cities including New York,

Boston and Los Angeles.

On Monday, they are due

to meet investors in San

Francisco. The Wall

Street Journal/Money

Beat Twitter is operating

from a smaller base than

Facebook, and is likely to

continue operating from a

smaller base. "We be-

lieve investors should as-

sume that Twitter's

penetration and user

base will be materially

smaller than Facebook's,"

Sanford Bernstein wrote.

The firm sees Twitter with

about 100 million active

users monthly in the U.S.,

and 575 million overseas,

by 2018. Facebook has

more than 1 billion

monthly active users.

Bloomberg Business-

week With the company's

new valuation skyrocket-

ing to $13.6 billion, this

initial public offering has

become another example

of a company getting a

pass on fundamentals

such as earnings and

quality of revenue. If you

examine how Twitter

shares will be priced rela-

tive to these basic finan-

cial measures, they'll be

tremendously expensive,

especially for retail in-

vestors.
