NEED A need arises from a situation. From the situation comes the problem, but
also an opportunity to fulfill the need by solving the problem.
BRAINSTORMING Brainstorming is a quick means of generating ideas either verbally or on
paper. It includes sketching, writing, speaking, and listening. Can be done in a group or individually. Helps to clarify the need and select the best solution.
Stages of the Design Process
DESIGN BRIEF A design brief is a short statement explaining what you want to create, or
fabricate.
RESEARCHING This stage includes gathering information, drawing several different designs,
and making a model of the design selected. Self and peer assessments will assist in the selection of the best design.
Stages of the Design Process
PLANNING Planning involves deciding on materials, tools, and procedures to follow.
The organization of your time and the steps in your project is important.
FABRICATION Fabrication is using the materials, tools, and procedures to construct an
object that will fulfill the need.
Stages of the Design Process
EVALUATION In this stage, the fabricated object is tested in order to evaluate its success.
Review the design process, and ask the following questions:
Has the fabricated object fulfilled the need satisfactorily?Do I have to change or modify the design? How does the object compare with others that I have seen? What will I create next time?
