I am excited about the challenge and opportunity to lead this proud and tradition rich program. I have been employed by Lake Orion Community Schools since 1998 in a variety of roles throughout the district. During the past 19 years, I have coordinated the special teams and coached the defensive backs as an assistant coach for Chris Bell. The main purpose of this letter is to assure you that your current and/or future Dragon is in good hands. As a staff, we plan to continue the tradition of having teams that not only play hard, but also represent their school and community in a prideful and respectful manner on the field and in our community. We will strive to develop great young men that not only perform on the field, but also win championships in the game of life. We hope to be as influential in your son’s life as the great role models I have had in my life like: Coach Willie Martinez, Coach Dick Flynn, Coach Frank Novak, Coach Chris Bell, and most importantly my own high school coach (and father) Coach John T. Blackstock. Our foundation as a program, which is our parent group (PEPP Club), district leadership, and community, is rock solid. Our high school through youth league coaching and support staff will continue to provide a strong support and structure to our program. When we have men like Eric Jennings, Brad Fischer, Eric Ghiaciuc, Jay Cohoe, Jason Larsen, and Tyler Misiak remaining involved at the varsity level, it is easy to say your son will be taken care of. Through the help of my friend Dr. Jared Wood, we have created a phrase that our players will hear a lot. “Make The Play…Every Day is Game Day!” This is important because our young men have hundreds of opportunities to make big plays every day whether on or off the field, in season or out of season. We also believe game day always has a special energy to it. Imagine what we can accomplish if we bring that energy every day to all aspects of our lives. At this point of the off season I have encouraged our players to: #1 be eligible for our opening game at Chippewa Valley. That means academically and in terms of the student-athlete code. #2 be involved in a planned strength program to prevent injuries and increase athletic performance. We have a great program run by Coach Booker and Coach Jennings. Student-athletes should participate in the morning workouts or in Coach Booker’s strength class during the school day. #3 compete either through one of the many Lake Orion High School athletic teams we have, or at one of the various football skill development clinics around Oakland County this winter. Parents, I highly encourage you to get involved in our PEPP Club. Our biggest and most important fundraiser “Knight” Out for Dragon Football will be Saturday, March 18 at Canterbury Village.
