Tea Scoop, named Namida ("Tears")

Sen-no-Rikyū (1522-91) carved this bamboo tea scoop and used it in his last tea gathering, after Toyotomi Hideyoshi ordered his ritual suicide. March 28, the memorial day of Rikyū's death, is called "Rikyū-ki." The scoop was later owned by Furuta Oribe who made the outer case for the scoop, then Tokugawa Ieyasu and the 1st Owari Tokugawa Yoshinao.

This exhibition explores the significance of warrior-class protocols and customs surrounding swords and the transfer of swords among daimyō families with the display of numerous famous swords, from pieces owned by Tokugawa Ieyasu from his estate that was divided upon his death, to swords that were bestowed upon the Owari Tokugawa family by successive generations of shoguns that followed.

蓬左文庫は、尾張徳川家の旧蔵書を引き継いだ文庫です。蔵書数は約11万点。「河内本 源氏物語」など7件154点の重要文化財、尾張徳川家初代義直が徳川家康の遺品として譲り受けた駿河御譲本、歴代藩主が収集した書物を中心に、全国的にも優れた古典籍を伝えています。

閲覧室では蔵書の閲覧や画像利用に加え、古典や郷土史に関するレファレンスにも応じています。また、国の有形文化財に登録されている旧書庫棟を利用したエントランスホールでは、かつての書庫の様子を再現し、展示室では徳川美術館とともに、大名文化や古典籍をテーマにした展覧会を開催しています。

徳川園は池泉回遊式の日本庭園で、清流が滝から渓谷を下り海に見立てた池へと流れるありさまは、日本の自然景観を象徴的に凝縮しています。さらに、高低差の大きな地形、既存のまま取り入れた樹林、立体的に迫る大きな岩組みが特徴で、変化に富んだ景観を大胆に切り替える構成を用いて大名庭園の「荘厳さ」が体感できます。また、新緑や紅葉、牡丹や花菖蒲の花 な々ど四季を通じて楽しめる庭となっています。

徳川美術館は、徳川家康の遺品を中心に、尾張徳川家初代義直(家康九男)以下代々の遺愛品、いわゆる「大名道具」1万件余りを収める美術館です。国宝「源氏物語絵巻」をはじめ、国宝9件、重要文化財59件など、種類の豊富さ、質の高さ、保存状態の良さを誇ります。本館は国の有形文化財に登録されています。

【名品コレクション展示室 約1ヶ月毎に展示作品が替わります】尾張徳川家伝来の名品を中心に、大名の生活と文化を紹介する展示室です。尾張徳川家当主の公的生活の場であった名古屋城二之丸御殿を、部分的ながらも時代考証に基づいて、そのまま復元してあります。美術品とそれらが使われた空間との一体的な体系展示によって、美術品単体の美にとどまらず、日本の伝統美である「構成の美」あるいは「取り合わせの美」を鑑賞することができます。

刀剣を通じた武家儀礼と、大名家にとっての刀剣授受の意義を探り、徳川家康の遺品「駿府御分物」を含む家康所持の刀剣の他、歴代将軍から尾張徳川家に下賜された名刀114振の全てを展示替も含めて紹介します。

雛まつりにちなみ、着せ替え人形や市松人形、雛道具や動物・物語など、女子の心を魅了するかわいい品々を紹介します。

中世合戦絵巻から近世の合戦図屏風まで、歴史の中で幾度となく繰り返された戦を描く合戦図の系譜をたどります。

「良寛さん」と呼ばれ、今も多くの人々に愛され続ける良寛は、名利にとらわれぬ生活を送った托鉢僧でした。清貧の中で生きとし生けるものすべてへの愛を失わず、子どもと戯れ、友と語り、和歌や漢詩を詠み、書に興じた人でした。その人間性を表出した書は、見る者の心にあたたかさと感動を与えてくれます。本展は、日本有数の良寛コレクター秘蔵の遺墨を中心に、新出の作品を加え公開します。
