Attempts made to solveelectricity related problems in city

In Navi Mumbai, owing to the carelessness of Electricity Board, weconstantly find the city residents facing some kind of problem or otherrelated to electricity. Either there is constant occurrences in stoppageof electricity supply or someone receiving electric shock etx. Hence MPRajan Vichare called a meeting with corporators of Airoli and Belapurat CIDCO guest house. Present for this meeting was Bhandup munici-pal zonal division’s chief engineer Pushpa Chavan, Navi Mumbai super-intending engineer Rajesh Naik, the executive engineers of both Airoliand Belapur legislative constituencies, district chief Vitthal More, Dwar-kanath Bhoir and opposition party leader Vijay Chougule.

The first issue raised was about the stopping of electric supply owingto short circuit at Airoli, Rabale and Ghansoli owing to which the resi-dents over there are not able to fill water in the morning. These resi-dents feel greatly inconvenienced because of this. The reply given byElectricity Board representative was that the short circuit was owing toelectric cables having become old. The electricity board representativewas reminded that these cables were installed just three months back. The representative had to agree to that. That means he was caughtlying. MP Rajan Vichare then issued an order saying that the chief en-gineer should find out whether the cables installed were of good quality.

The second issue was related to sub-station. After some discussion,MP Rajan Vichare concluded by saying that on the two thousand squaremeter plot at Airoli Sector 14, all the encroachments should be removedand on that plot a new sub-station should come up. MP Rajan Vichareasked why the electricity was supplied to the illegally encroached hut-ments. The reply given was that those hutments were constructed be-fore 1995.

Those present during the meeting also questioned as to why CIDCOwhich had promised to remove these encroachments in 2011 did notkeep its promise. MP Rajan Vichare has decided to hold meeting withCIDCO authorities to discuss this encroachment and sub-station is-sues.

After that came up an interesting issue related to a small boy ofGhansoli who was burnt owing to electricity shock. This boy was given acompensation of only Rs 20000. MP Rajan Vichare asked for action tobe taken against the concerned officer who was responsible for the inci-dent and he also declared that compensation to the victim should bepaid by Electricity Board. Another issue that came up was about thework of changing feeder box at Koparkhairane that was pending. TheElectricity Board representatives promised to complete this work with-in two months.

The main electricity cable line which was not put underground atIndira Nagar’s ward no. 73 was claiming many lives. The reason whynecessary action could not be taken in this matter was owing to lack offunds. But now that the funds are made available to Electricity Board, the representative of the board has promise to take necessary actionwithin one month.

The overhead lines at Agroli Talav in Belapur is in a state where itcan break and fall and cause loss of lives. Here again MP Rajan Vicharepromised to obtain funds for the work of repairing the overhead linesand get the work done at the earliest.

The residents of societies complain that the Electricity Board arealways short of stock of electric cables to correct the electric faults thatthey face owing to which these residents have to get some contractorsto get the work done with their money. They also requested that all theelectric cables which are thrown into the gutters should be removed outand buried underground.

At the end of the meeting, the ultimate Bhandup Municipal ZonalDivision’s chief Engineer Pushpa Chavan called upon the residents tolodge complaint about any corrupt electricity officer or other electricityrelated problems over 19120.

So the participants in this meeting dealt on many issues related toelectricity in detail. Now we will have to see whether the city residentswill get total relief from all electricity related problems in the days tocome. If they do get relief, only then can we say that this meeting was

successful.

In order to ensurethat this knowledge ispassed on from one gen-eration to another hestarted the Gurukuls. Thus the responsibilityof protecting and follow-ing the knowledge tra-ditions in life was hand-ed over from father toson or from Guru toShishya. This Param-para or tradition is cel-ebrated during Guru-purnima. All the eldersare revered and remem-bered on Gurupurnimaday. This celebration is

also for strengtheningthe resolve to continuethe tradition by takingthe responsibility i.e.Dayitva to give ade-quate time and energyfor work being under-taken by each one of us.

If Veda Vyasa hadnot devised this meth-od of protecting theknowledge traditions ofIndia i.e., the Vedas, then like many othercountries in the middleeast or Europe, we toowould have lost all ourknowledge and alongwith it our identity.Bharat would not havebeen Bharat.

It is said – AnantaVai Veda – - Infinite areVedas.

Because of inces-sant invasions we havelost many branches ofVedas, and yet howmuch is still protectedby our land. It is allbecause of the effortsmade by Guru VedVyasa. Vedvyasa wasthe son of RishiParashar and Satya-vati. The story goesthat one day Prasharwas going for a yagya. He was getting late.Satyavati helped himcross the river by row-ing the boat. She was

blessed with a boonthat she would get ason, who would be wellversed in differentscriptures if she recit-ed certain mantra. Outof sheer curiosity, sherecited the mantra, andVyasa was born. Hewas an extraordinarilybrilliant child. Todaywe owe much of ourknowledge of Veda tohim.

Vivekananda’s

thoughts on Vedas

According to Vive-kananda, Veda meansthe sum total of eternaltruths.

Truth is of twokinds: (1) that which iscognizable by the fiveordinary senses of manand by reasoning’sbased thereon; (2) thatwhich is cognizable bythe subtle, super sensu-ous power of yoga.Knowledge acquired bythe first means is calledscience; and knowledgeacquired by the secondis called the Vedas. Ourown realization is be-yond the Vedas, becauseeven they depend uponthat. The highest Vedasis the philosophy of theBeyond.

The Sanskrit inwhich the Vedas were

written is not the sameSanskrit in whichbooks were writtenabout a thousand yearslater than the Vedas -the books that you readin your translations ofpoets and other classi-cal writers of India. TheSanskrit of the Vedaswas very simple, archa-ic in its composition, and possibly it was aspoken language.

The Vedas are divid-ed into four parts. Oneis called the Rig Veda, another Yajur Veda, another Sama Veda, and the fourth, Athar-va Veda. Each one ofthese, again, was divid-ed into many branches. For instance, the SamaVeda had one thousandbranches, of which onlyabout five or six re-main; the rest are alllost. The Rig Veda had108, of which only oneremains; and the restare all lost.

This vast mass ofliterature - the Vedas -we find in three groups. The first group is theSamhitas, a collectionof hymns. The secondgroup is called theBrahmanas, or the[group dealing with dif-ferent kinds of] sacri-fice. The word brahma-na [by usage] means[what is achieved bymeans of] the sacrifice. And the other group is

called the Upanishads(sittings, lectures, philosophic books).Again, the first twoparts together - thehymns and the rituals- are called the KarmaKanda, the work por-tion; and the second, orphilosophic portion (theUpanishads), is calledthe Jnana Kanda, theknowledge portion. Thisis the same word asyour English wordknowledge and theGreek word gnos - justas you have the word inagnostic, and so on. Theorigin of ancient San-skrit is 5,000 BC; theUpanishads [are atleast] two thousandyears before that. No-body knows exactly howold they are.

Different parts ofVedas were preservedby different families. With invasions andplundering of our coun-try by foreigners, a vastamount of damage wasdone. Ninety-nine per-cent of the Vedas aremissing; they were inthe keeping of certainfamilies, with whoseextinction the bookswere lost. The cardinalfeatures of the Hindureligion are founded onthe meditative and spec-ulative philosophy andon the ethical teachingscontained in the vari-ous books of the Vedas.

This word Hinduwas the name that theancient Persians usedto apply to the riverSindhu. Whenever inSanskrit there is an sin ancient Persian itchanges into an h, sothat sindhu becamehindu; and you are allaware how the Greeksfound it hard to pro-nounce h and droppedit altogether, so that webecame known as Indi-ans.

The last part of theVedas is called theVedanta, meaning theend of the Vedas. Itdeals with the theoriescontained in them, andmore especially withthe philosophy withwhich we are con-cerned. It is written inSanskrit, and, youmust remember, waswritten thousands ofyears ago.

Swami Vivekanan-da, felt that the use ofword Hindu had lost itssignificance in thepresent times. Hecalled all those who fol-lowed the Vedas andconsidered it as theirscriptures as Vaidika orVedantists. Elaboratespeeches and lectures ofVivekananda are avail-able widely and freelyon the net. Read themfor a greater under-standing of our scrip-tures.

The Clothing Man-ufacturers Associationof India (CMAI) has or-ganized “India’s Larg-est Apparel Trade Show– The 69th NationalGarment Fair” from15TH July to 18thJuly 2019 at BombayExhibition Centre,NSE Complex, Gorega-on (East), Mumbai. The Fair was inaugu-rated today by Mr.Rahul Mehta, Presi-dent – CMAI.

While inauguratingthe fair, Mr. Mehta stat-ed that business ofaround Rs.750 crore toRs. 800 crore was ex-pected to be generatedduring the four days ofthe fair.

CMAI’s 69th NGFB2B Fair is spread overApprox. 7,00,000Square Feet, coveringall the Halls at theBombay ExhibitionCentre, with 882 Ex-hibitors showcasing1062 Brands. This is

India’s Largest EverGarment Fair held sofar. The Fair displaysleading Brands in

Men’s wear, Women’swear, Kid’s wear andAccessories. CMAI hasalso published the‘Show Directory’, popu-larly known as the FairGuide. Approximately50,000 Retailers &

Trade Visitors from allover India are expectedto visit this Fair.

This B2B Fair

would remain openonly to Trade Visitors &Garment Retailers. The Business Network-ing Sessions betweenthe Exhibitors andAgents & Distributors, would also continue

this year.This Fair has been

brought by UDAAN,India’s leading B2B e-

commerce platformhaving the Largest Dis-tribution Network forRetailers, Wholesalers,Brands and Manufac-turers across multipleCategories. Udaan’sMarketplace servicesinclude Credit, Logis-tics, Marketing &Sales support to Buyersand Sellers on its Plat-form, facilitating effi-cient and convenienttransactions across theCountry. Through a

Mr. Rahul Mehta,President - The Cloth-ing Manufacturers As-sociation of India (Ex-Chairman, Interna-tional ApparelFederation),stated thatthe biggest problem fac-ing the Domestic Gar-ment manufacturerstoday is the unrestrict-ed Duty Free importsfrom Bangladesh, andthe back door entry ofChinese Fabrics viaBangladesh.

India has an FTAwith Bangladesh, whereby Garments canbe exported withoutany payment of Dutyinto India. In the ab-sence of any Rules ofOrigin, Bangladeshmanufacturers are im-porting duty free fab-rics from China, con-verting them into Gar-ments, and exportingin to India – therebyvirtually providingduty free access to In-dian markets for Chi-nese Fabrics. It is im-portant to note that the

Imports of Garmentsfrom Bangladesh hasbeen growing at therate of 82% over lastyear, and 161% over2016-17, and has nowreached US$365 mil-lion. If this continues, our forecast is that itwill only grow fasterand imports of gar-ments from Bang-ladesh will touchUS$3.6 Billion by 2024-25. Ironically, exports ofGarments from Indiainto Bangladesh is sub-ject to a net duty of al-most 125%. CMAI hasurged the Governmentto take immediatesteps, otherwise if thisgrowth of imports al-lowed to continue, theIndustry is set to lose10 lakh jobs by 2025.

Mr. Rahul Mehtademanded that therules of origin shouldcome into force. A min-imum amount of rawmaterials (fabric) usedfor garment, which areexported from Bang-ladesh to India, shouldbe made out of materi-als either manufac-tured in Bangladesh orimported from India. Inother words, materials

There was no loserat Lord’s on Sunday

It surely was an incredible Sunday withall the action happening in England. At Wim-bledon Djokovic won an epic battle against oneof the finest tennis players in the history ofthe game viz Roger Federer. The finals wentinto five sets, what amazing display of top classtennis was witnessed at the centre court.

Not far away was another classic clash hap-pening to crown themselves as the new WorldChampion of limited overs cricket. NewZealand were supposed to give a good fight, but eventually lose by a fair margin, was whatmost people had thought when England beganthe chase. But as the match headed to the fi-nal ten overs of the tournament it gatheredmore excitement. With each ball bowled onegot a feeling that the game is heading for anail biting finish. None would though haveimagined in their wildest imagination thatfirst the innings score would be tied and theneven the Super Over will end on similar note.

England, it seems were destined to winwhatever would be the rules of the “debatable”Tiebreaker.

Needing 9 from 3 balls by England itseemed New Zealand had the upper hand, butthen it being purely England’s day, the throwfrom the deep by Guptill hit the bat of a divingStokes at the striker’s end, and the ball racedto the boundary. What should had been justtwo runs ended up giving England six runs, reducing the chase margin to a mere 3 of 2balls. Had that ball not gone for a boundarythe target of 7 from 2 balls wouldn’t had beeneasy for them to get.

What happened at Lord’s on Sunday nightconfirmed one thing, there was no loser, justone team got the Cup and the other side gottons of appreciation for their super effort.

Those who witnessed this absolutely uniqueand fabulous match would also have questionedanything like this ever happening had it beenshown in a movie. They would also have said,Aisa kabhi possible hai kya, kuch bhi dikhatehai ye filmwaley.

Violence in the nameof protection

What is food for one man should not bepoison for another. These gau rakshaks are tak-ing the law into their own hands. Instead ofprotecting women from being molested, rapedand killed, they are protecting cows from being

killed and eaten. These crimes are mostly preva-lent in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and in someparts of Maharashtra. Certain groups are extreme-ly sensitive when it comes to protecting cows. So,laws must be implemented to ensure that peopleare protected against violent vigilantism.

GurupournimaGuru Brahma Guru Vishnu mantra is a man-

tra that honors the Hindu gods and teachers LordBrahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. It mayalso be used more widely to revere and invokethe support of all spiritual gurus. In yogic tradi-tion, a great deal of importance is placed uponthe relationship between a student and their guru. The Guru Brahma Guru Vishnu mantra recog-nizes the value of the gurus’ teachings in findinga connection with divinity. It is ultimately anexpression of gratitude for all spiritual teachersand the guidance they give in overcoming igno-rance to find enlightenment and awakening. Theidea of Guru cannot be defined in a few words. Alifetime goes in finding a true Guru.

Guru Purnima is a special day for artistes. It

is a unique concept in India, when a full moonday in the month of Ashadh is dedicated to one’sguru, mentor or a teacher. In some parts of In-dia, it is also called Ved Vyas puja or Buddha

Letters to the Editor....Purnima, since on this day Buddha gave hisfirst sermon at Sarnath. In the ancient Hindutexts, Gurus had a great significance in a disci-ple’s life. Gurus refer to the spiritual guide whoenlightens disciples by his knowledge and teach-ings. Guru Purnima is also celebrated as VyasaPurnima as this day marks the birth anniver-sary of Guru Veda Vyasa, who is generally con-sidered the author of the Mahabharata.

Guru Purnima or Vyasa Purnima is cele-brated in the Ashadha month of the Hindu cal-endar on the Purnima or the full moon day ofthe Shukla Paksh or the waxing moon. Thisyear, the festival will be celebrated on Tues-day, July 16. The Guru Purnima Tithi willbegin at 01:48 am on Tuesday, July 16, andwill end at 03:07 am on July 17. Interestingly,July 17 will also the mark the partial LunarEclipse 2019.

Guru Purnima (Poornima) is a spiritual tra-dition in Indian religion dedicated to spiritualand academic teachers, who are evolved or en-lightened humans, ready to share their wis-dom, with very little or no monetary expecta-tion, based on Karma Yoga. It is celebrated asa festival in Nepal, India and Bhutan by theHindus, Jains and Buddhists. This festival istraditionally observed by Hindus, Buddhistsand Jains to revere their chosen spiritual teach-ers and express their gratitude. The festival iscelebrated on the full moon day.

The celebration is marked by spiritual ac-tivities and may include a ritualistic event inhonor of the Guru; that is, the teachers whichis called Guru Pooja. The Guru Principle is saidto be a thousand times more active on the dayof Guru Purnima than on any other day. Theword Guru is derived from two words, gu andru. The Sanskrit root gu means darkness orignorance, and ru denotes the remover of thatdarkness. Therefore, a Guru is one who re-moves the darkness of our ignorance. Gurusare believed by many to be the most necessarypart of our life. On this day, disciples offer poo-ja or pay respect to their Guru. In addition tohaving religious importance, this festival hasgreat importance for Indian academics andscholars. Indian academics celebrate this dayby thanking their teachers as well as remem-bering past teachers and scholars.

Guru is the creator guru is the protectorand guru solely is the destroyer of evil. Guru isthe supreme God so we bow upon Him and payour respects. This day is also seen as an occa-sion when fellow devotees and teachers expresstheir solidarity to one another in their spiritu-al journey. It is an auspicious way to begin anew life of learning.

Sports Talks : Winning Ways At WimbledonBy C. K. Subramaniam

At Wimbledon, itwas more pulsating asNovak Djokovic becamethe first player in 71years to win singles fi-nal after facing matchpoints in the finalmatch. The fifth set tiebreak decided the win-ner for the first time inWimbledon’s history. Itwas an anti-climax endto a fitting final. Sportslover all over the worldwere the winners to wit-ness the sporting ex-travaganza till mid-night.

Novak Djokovicagain proved the tough-est of nuts for RogerFederer to crack as herepelled everything theSwiss could throw athim to claim his fifth

Wimbledon title in thefirst All England Clubfinal to be decided by atiebreaker. The defend-ing champion was out-

shone at times on Cen-tre Court and saved 2match points deep intoa gripping decider, buthe dredged his tank ofmental and physical re-silience to claim a thrill-ing 7-6 (5), 1-6, 7-6 (4),4-6, 13-12 (3) win. Noth-

ing could split the play-ers in an intoxicatingfinal set and the matchwas already the longestWimbledon singles final

in history when theclub’s new rule stipulat-ing a tiebreak at 12-12in a deciding set wasdeployed for the firsttime in singles. As hehad done in the day’stwo other tiebreaks, thetop-seeded Djokovic

showed nerves of steel tocrush Federer’s hopes ofclaiming a ninth titleand becoming the oldestman to win a Grand

Slam title in the pro-fessional era.

If some sensa-tional cricket tookthe centre stage yes-terday, tennis loverslike me went awayto Wimbledon to wit-ness probably one ofthe greatest grandslam/ Wimbledon fi-nals played in its his-

tory. Though Novakwon the title it was Rog-er, the Monarch whostole our hearts whoprobably had played hisgreatest match ever atWimbledon at 38, anage where Stars justrelax and reminisce on

their honours. We don’tknow whether it washis Swan Song or he willcome back more stron-ger to give nightmaresto the likes of Djokovics’and Nadals’. Federefought till the end butit was game, set, matchand championship forDjokovic.

Novak Djokovic’ssuccessful defence of hisWimbledon crown en-sured that the Serb re-mained at world num-ber one in the latest ATPrankings. The 32-year-old collected his fifthWimbledon title and16th major with athrilling five-set winover Roger Federer, amatch that last threeminutes short of fivehours.
