ABSTRACT
THE EFFECTIVENESS USING SONGS FOR TEACHING VOCABULARY
(An Experimental Research at Seventh Grade Students of SMP N 2 Watukumpul in
Academic Year 2014/2015)

The aim of the research was to find out whether using song was effective or not for
teaching vocabulary at seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Watukumpul in academic
year 2014/2015. The method used in this research was experimental research. The
experimental research involved: experimental group and control group in which each
group consisted of 30 students. Test was used in collecting data, namely pre-test and
post-test, and the instrument was tried out to part of population to know its validity and
reliability. The test consists of multiple choices items. After the data were collected, it was
analyzed by using t-test. The result of the data analysis of t-test showed that the t-value
was higher than t-table (3.31 > 1.672). it revealed that there was positive effect of using
song for teaching vocabulary. Thus, the hypothesis was accepted or it means that song is
effective for teaching vocabulary at seventh grade students of SMP N 2 Watukumpul in
academic year 2014/2015.
