We are back from our Christmas holiday full of energy. January has brought us some trophees for our High School and Saint Thomas Day was exciting. We were in the bus, we stopped to pick up other children and we went to Lorca. We saw the track and we got ready to run. There were many people at the beginning of the race. Everybody ran very fast. Some boys fell. My team was the second and we got a medal and the big boys couldn’t win the medal. We all came back to the bus very happy. Some students from 2ºESO went to school at

seven o'clock last 23rd Januray. We were in the

bus, we stopped to pick up other children and we

went to Lorca. We saw the track and we got ready

to run. There were many people at the beginning

of the race. Everybody ran very fast. Some boys

fell. My team was the second and we got a medal

and the big boys couldn’t win the medal. We all

came back to the bus very happy.

BEST COMPOSITIONS

THE LEOPARD By JESÚS NAVARRO PÉREZ –

1ºESO-B

The leopard is a very

strong mammal. The leopard is

carnivore. He eats other ani-

mals, for example, zebras,

deers…

He has got fur and whisk-

ers. He has got a special skin

because he has got a lot of black

spots. He has got four paws and

very strong claws, too. His

fangs are so sharp and its habi-

tat is the jungle, mountains and

African grass land. The leopard

weights up to 250 kilos. The

leopard runs very fast to eat

other animal. The leopard´s

baby looks like a cat. The

leopard can´t fly because he

hasn´t got wings.

THE KOALA By GLORIA TRISTANTE SÁEZ–

1ºESO-C

The koala is a mammal. It is

from Australia, there are only

80,000 there, so it is an endangered

animal although you can see them in

the zoos all over the world. It’s 76

cm long and it weighs about 15 ki-

lograms. It has got four paws, big

ears and a thick fur over its body.

It is usually grey, black and

White. Its ears are big and furry, and

it has got nails to climb the top of

tres. It can live in cold and warm

climates and it usually lives in the

forest where they can find a lot of

food.

It’s hervibore so it only eats

plants and leaves but it doesn’t

drink much wáter.

It sleeps eighteen hours a day.

It looks like a teddy bear.

It’s a beautiful animal.

TITLE:The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

CHARACTERS:Dorothy,Toto,a scarecrow,a Tin Man, a Lion,Glinda, the Wizard and Wicked Witch of the West.

PLOT: Dorothy and Toto were dragged away away by a tornado to a nice place called Oz. Their house landed on

the Wicked Witch of the East , and the Municks are happy. But Dorothy has a problem How can she go

home?.And she went to ask the Wizard Of Oz

On the Road they met a scarecrow , he wanted a brain (but he had the best ideas) a Tin Man, he wants a heart

(but he showed more heart than everybody), and a lion , he wanted some courage but he protected his friends

When they arrived , they asked the Wizard of Oz, but he said: 'First you have to kill the Wicked Witch of the

West' . The friends are very surprised , but they killed her.

When they arrived to ask again , they saw that he was an impostor and they returned to Oz

When the friends arrived , Glinda the Good Witch of the North appeared and said :Don't be sad , because you

don't need a Wizard to get your wishes , and she said , too :Dorothy you learn a lesson ''There isn't place like

home'', and Dorothy tapped the red shoes three times and returned home.

PERSONAL OPINION:It is a fantastic and interesting book.

HORT NEWS AT

NEW PROJECT, by María Ramón Sánchez—4ESO

The students of 4º ESO are going to write letters with students of another high

school in USA. It is a very exciting project because you can speak with people of

other countries. This high school’s name is “Concordia Lutheran High School”. Our

teacher Beatriz is speaking with the other teacer called Sharri Pratt. We want to be-

gin soon.

THE SCRABLE,

By Paula Defaz Astudillo 3ºESO– C The Spanish Language Department organised the Scrable. It is a very interesting

game because you must make words. They have seven letters each with a rating. The

game ends when the letters are finished.

The winners were: Chaymae Ouadi, 2ºESO-B

and Estephan Alekov , 4ºA

It’s a very fun and easy game.

Next year you should compete.

CRÊPES AT THE FRENCH CORNER By Latifa Mhammed, 3ºESO– C

Last Friday 25th January 2013 IES Pedro Peñalver organised in

each corner activities to celebrate Saint Thomas. The French

Corner cooked some crêpes. At 10.00 am the teachers Marga,

Arrate, Mariam ,Toñi, Rocío and Eva prepared the crêpes to the

students. The students who study French had coupons to eat

before the other students of the school.

In my opinion the crêpes were delicious and I liked them.

WHO IS WHO?

3ºESO-C The Counceling Departa-

ment organised and activity

called “Who is Who?” The

activity began when the tea-

chers put a poster with pho-

tos of teachers when they

were children on the wall.

The students had to disco-

ver the teachers. Many stu-

dents participated and the

winners were the stu-

dents from 2ºBachillerato

CCSS and 2ºESO-A

WHO IS WHO?

(SILUETTES) The Arts Department

organised a similar con-

test with siluettes in

black. There were diffe-

rent teachers’ siluettes

and students had to dis-

cover them. The winners

were 4ºESO-A,

1ºBachillerato CCSS,

2ºESO-A, 1ºPCPI and

3ºESO-C.

GYNCHANA, By Khadija Ragmi, 3ºESO-C Last Friday, 25th January, the students of Pedro Peñalver High

School celebrated Saint Thomas. The Gynchana competition

was in the library. It was so funny because the students were

very nervous and frightened because they were afraid of lo-

sing. But it was so easy because the only rule was: “If you take

a book you must return it at its place”. So children were very

competitive, the the only winners were the class 3ºESO-B.

KARAOKE, By Khadija Ragmi,

3ºESOC The karaoke competition was

organised by the English De-

partmen in the playground. I

was one of the participants and

I was very shy because when I

was singing everybody was wat-

ching me and my friends. The

other participants sang very well

and the winners were the class of

1ºBachillerato. They sang and dan-

ced very well too. The second win-

ners were students from 1ºESO-B

and we got the third position.

TRIPLES By Antonio Escribano Bravo,

3ºESO-C

Saint Thomas is a day when the

students of our high school play ga-

mes. These games started at half

past eight and finished at half past

twelve. Students won points to win

a travel to Terra Mítica.

There were many games: Karaoke,

Password, Simbras, Who is Who…

My game is “The Triples”. This ga-

me is part of basketball. It started

at 8:45 and finished at 9:30. The

winners were 2ºESO-D.

PHOTOGRAPHY

CONTEST By Juan Andrés Cortés Pozo,

3ºESO-C

This contest is great because it

was interesting and great to see all

the photos that the contestants

took. There were a lot of pictures.

Some were beautiful and other in-

teresting. But we could only have

one winner and this year the winner

was 1º Bachillerato. On the second

position was 2ºESO-C and the third

ones were 2ºESO-A. Congratula-

tions to all.

PASSWORD,By Virginia Mateo Martínez, 3ºESO-C

On 25th January there was a party in IES Pedro Peñalver. It was Saint

Thomas Aquino and there were a lot of games and competitions. One of

them was the Password. It was organised by te Spanish Language De-

partment and it was at a quarter to ten. It’s a game in which the contes-

tants have to guess the correct Word and there is a presenter who says

phrases for helping them. The contestants have to win the time for the

last game. It was really exciting! And the winner was Carmen Arco

Hernández from 1ºBachillerato. It’s a good way to have fun.

SIMBRAS, By María Roca García, 3ºESO-C

The Physics and Chemistry Department organised a game called

“Simbras”. This game was very entertaining and funny. It con-

sists of making words in Spanish with the different formulae

of the periodic table. You could have fun and win points. The

winner was Jose Miguel from 1º Bachillerato.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

SACK RACE By Salma Asbayti,3ºESO-C

On St. Thomas Day some peo-

ple participated in the sack-

race. There were many people

and they felt good because it

was fun.

The competition was amazing

and fantastic and the winner

was David García Martínez,

from

2ºESO-C.

Hieroglyphics By Ramón Roca 3ºBastida

ESO-C This event was organised by the

geography department. It consists

of guessing words from different

pictures. It was really difficult and

the winners were Rosa and Sara

from 2ºESO-B.

SUDOKU It was planned by the mathematics

department. It is a game that rec-

quires a lot of concentration. It

consists of completing eighty-one

boxes. You mustn’t repeat any num-

ber at horizontal, vertical or in a

square of nine boxes. There were

two categories and the winners we-

re 2ºESO-D and 4ºESO-B.
