*As a collaborative, our annual expenses are significant. It in-cludes buildings, maintenance, insurance, salaries, stipends, re-pairs, snow removal, landscaping, trash pickup, cleaning, etc. That includes three church campuses. Even closed buildings must be insured and heated, and minimally maintained and se-cured. And as many of you know, efforts to renovate, redevelop, or rehabilitate properties takes considerable time. We need your support. Would you consider a year-end gift? Please pray about what you can do to help us continue the great work we are doing. Friends and neighbors from all of the parishes of the South Boston-Seaport Catholic Collaborative are being invited to make a donation (and some have already responded—thank you!)—which can be designated in the following ways:

Gracias.)

YEAR OF THE EUCHARIST. Cardi-nal Seán O’Malley has announced a Year of the Eucharist (YOTE) for the

Archdiocese of Boston, to be held from Holy Thursday, April 9, 2020 until Corpus Christi, June 6, 2021.

This might seem like a ways off but there will be a series of initiatives that will help the parishes undertake this year. In

the coming weeks a YOTE coordinator for the Collaborative will be announced.

Making Room for the Beggar—Republished from Dec. 29th By Deacon Paul Kline

For many of us, setting up the Christmas manger in our homes is a favorite family tradition. The figures of the Holy Family, the shepherds, the animals, and the wise men are carefully held by the

small hands of our children and grandchildren and placed gently around the manger to tell the story of the first Christmas.

Pope Francis has spoken with special affection about a figure that is often placed closest to the Christ child. He is the beggar who represents all of the invisible ones – the poor and the aban-

doned; the lost and forgotten. The beggar approaches the manger with empty pockets. The world has no use for the beggar and would judge him unworthy to approach. But Mary and Joseph in-vite him to draw near. He has nothing to offer except a desire to be seen and loved – and that is

the most perfect gift of all.

A few days before Christmas the lower hall at St. Peter’s was transformed into Santa’s workshop. Tables were covered with games and toys for the children of families from our neighborhood. No

one was turned away. Last Saturday, the lower hall at St. Monica’s became a sanctu-ary of neighborly kindness and compassion

as our friends and neighbors joined us at our Christmas Peace Breakfast. No one was

turned away. In the final days leading up to Christmas our phones rang with calls from

the lonely and the desperate looking for some small measure of Christmas hope. No

one was turned away.

The generosity of our parish communities and of the community of the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Voyage is so wonderful to

witness. But our generosity goes far beyond the gifts we give and the food we share. We are a community that sees the beggar with love and, like Mary and Joseph, welcomes the beggar to draw

near to the Lord. May God bless our ministry of hope in the world and grant us the wisdom to learn from the humility of those we serve.

AA MTGS AT ST. MONICA-AUGUSTINE

The enchanting image of the Christmas crèche, so dear to the Christian people, never ceases

to arouse amazement and wonder. The depic-tion of Jesus’ birth is itself a simple and joyful

proclamation of the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God. The nativity scene is like a

living Gospel rising up from the pages of sacred Scripture. As we contemplate the Christmas story, we are invited to set out on a spiritual

journey, drawn by the humility of the God who became man in order to encounter every man

and woman. We come to realize that so great is his love for us that he became one of us, so

that we in turn might become one with him.—Pope Francis

BEQUESTS

Please consider leaving a legacy by making a

bequest in your Will to one of the parishes of the

South Boston-Seaport Catholic Collaborative.

What a profound way to express your faith by

giving back to the parish that has meant so

much to you. It's a wonderful means to ensure

that your parish remains strong and vital for years

to come. Through a bequest, a donor may leave

a specific dollar amount or reserve a percent-

age of the estate after provisions for family mem-

bers and other beneficiaries have been made.

Pray if this is the right option for you or your loved

ones.

Please pray for Monsignor Al Contons as he recovers from a foot injury… Thank You!

Cursillistas Wanted Cursillo is an opportunity

to deepen your faith www.bostoncursillo.org

I remember when I first made my Cur-sillo in 2015. Thankfully, I went, with an heart open to God. Because a Cursillo—a little course in Christianity—is an oppor-tunity to encounter Jesus Christ in a unique way. With other brothers or sis-ters in Christ likewise on a journey to deepen one’s love and knowledge of Jesus and his Church; to grow in under-standing and compassion of self and others. To walk with a small community for just one weekend, and to experience Christ’s love and grace.

Bill Murphy & Mary Ann McLaughlin will be the Spiritual Directors of upcom-

ing weekends. Boston Cursillo Week-ends are held at the Campion Center, 319 Concord Road, Weston, MA. For more info. contact Chris Graf at (617)332-5548. Dates for Next Cursillo Weekends: -Women’s March 5-8, 2020 - Men’s April 23-26, 2020
