Dear Parents/Carers
Welcome back to a wet and windy start to this half term. The weather has not stopped us this week as
we have still made the most of our activities and getting out with our coats on when we can!
Poppy Collection for the Royal British Legion Poppies and a selection of wristbands, zip pull ribbons and reflectors will be on sale daily at morning break from Monday, 4th November to raise money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Suggested donations range from 50p to £1.50. Thank you
‘Lest We Forget’ Service
307 Squadron Project invites you to Exeter’s Guildhall for the special event ‘Lest We Forget’. It will take place
between 15-16 November 2019, 10:00-16:00 to remember the Polish 307 Squadron. This event also marks the 75th anniversary of D-Day, by commemorating Poles who took part in D-Day.
Meadowsfoot Class Autumn has definitely landed in Meadowsfoot class this week. The children have been able to
enjoy a range of activities such as leaf pictures, spooky maths, potions, recipes and pumpkin
shape and space with elastic bands. We have also started voting for
our end of the day school story which has been going well.
Independence in Meadowsfoot Class
Thank you all for helping your children to settle back into the morning
routine. From Monday, please can you encourage your child to come
in on their own. We feel this will help them settle more easily and start
their morning tasks. Obviously, if you would like to speak to me
please come on in.
There will also be opportunities for you to come and see your child
doing phonics so watch out for dates over the next few weeks.
Many thanks
NHS visual screening will take place for Foundation children on Tuesday, 12th November.

I currently work part time as an education consultant working with secondary, primary and special schools to help develop practice. I am also an Ofsted Inspector, inspecting across these school types. Outside of this, I love to make things! I make jewellery, I sew, crochet, paint, mosaic; really I just love doing anything ‘crafty’ and I’m just about to learn how to knit birds for charity! I have a dog called Harry (after my daughters favourite book; “Harry the Dirty Dog”) and love walking with him through the park and into the village for coffee.
Oldaport Class This week, Oldaport class have been learning more about the Vikings, focusing on their clothing. After lots of discussion and research, we found out that Viking helmets didn't actually have horns- it's a myth! Here are some of us trying on a replica of a Viking helmet.
Learners of the week Meadowsfoot Class – Henry B for excellent independence and attitude.
Mothecombe Class – Amelia for her positive learning attitude in all areas of the curriculum. Riverside Class – Riley H for his determination with column subtraction
Oldaport Class – Freddie H for excellent effort and perseverance in maths.
Riverside Class
A warm welcome back to the second half of the Autumn term. We have got a jam-packed half term to keep us busy until Christmas. Riverside have just started reading Arthur and the Golden Rope - an exciting quest story that ties in nicely with our history work on the Vikings. We have started by looking at the tricky vocabulary using dictionaries to help us and by improving the text using a thesaurus to make it even better. You can help your child by practising dictionary and thesaurus skills at home! Here are just a few of the exciting illustrations within the text. Can your child tell you the story?
Mothecombe Class
This week, Mothecombe class have been focussing on their number bonds and
applying them to a range of problems.
Viking Day – Wednesday, 6th November
Dress up as Vikings on this day if you wish! This is not a requirement though! We have a special Viking visitor arriving who has a wealth of knowledge about the Vikings and he will lead the day for us! Don’t forget your £1 donation which will be collected in on the day. Please note that swimming for Riverside class will still go ahead after play. School Meals School meals should be paid for in advance. Please enclose payments in a sealed envelope clearly marked with your child’s name and the amount enclosed. We can not accept responsibility for payments where money is sent loose in children’s bags/pockets or unnamed.
