I can’t begin to tell you how much it has meant to me to serve as your President for the past two years. I have been inspired by the scope and variety of quilts I have seen (maybe I can produce some new work this year!). I have been impressed by the talents of the members who stepped up to help with everything we accomplished this year. Many thanks

to countless unsung heroes this year.

I have made new friends and learned new quilt-ing techniques (maybe I can even finish the EQ7 tutorial this year!). I am truly grateful for this time with you – and don’t think I’m disappearing into my workroom either! Stay tuned, there may be some

new things to come.

Although I’m very pleased to become the new president of our Guild, I have some huge shoes to fill. I am grateful to all of the officers and committee chairs the past couple of years who have moved us forward in many good ways. Susan was instrumental in every change that took place, and I know that we will all miss her leadership and want to extend her our best wishes. She is there for us

still, and I know we’ll use her as we must.

I am here to continue the great work that has been started and to lead us in new directions as needed. I want and need to hear from YOU if you see or hear of things that need to be changed! We have a great board of directors, so if you can’t reach me personally, reach out to one of our other mem-bers and let’s work to make our Guild a great place

to work and play.

2013 Raffle Quilt

Thanks to everyone who worked the table at the March 24 High Desert Crafters Show, almost 200 raffle

tickets ($153) have been sold already. $125 was taken in from the sale of boutique items. Great job!


Just a note to bring you up to date on the current Challenge. Sign-up completed on March 31st. We

have close to 50 contestants.

The drawing for the painting by Gail Fisher “Airing the Quilts,” (shown below) will be held at the

April 4 (Wed) meeting. If the winner is not present, we have phone numbers!

We have received many questions about various different dots, stripes & plaids.

The short answers are…..

Not only polka dots, but any rounded dots or spots…..any size.

Checks are OK.

Stripes are stripes….. (what else can they be ?)

Who knew that there were THAT MANY questionable fabrics! Bottom line is , “If you’re in doubt,

leave it out !”, but this is supposed to be a fun challenge, so don’t worry about it ….. we’re not .

We hope to have monthly reminders of some sort to keep you on track, and we will continue to

answer questions.

Margaret Wood will present our May 2nd program. She is a quilt and clothing designer of Navajo and Seminole descent. Her book Native American Fashion was published in 1981 and is about adapting American Indian traditional clothing to contemporary wear. Her quilts are exhibited in national and international galleries and museums including the Smithsonian National

Museum. For further information her website is:

Following our program, she will hold a workshop from 11am to 4pm. Debi Guilmette will start taking signups for this workshop in April.

You will receive a supply list when you register.

Volunteer Opportunity: Ways and Means

Our Treasurer’s Report for the year just past shows that in spite of the rent increase this year and the emergency spending with the fire relief effort, we are still in the black. It has been a big effort with credit due to the many guild members who worked in the show boutique, made hundreds of items for sale, and manned our booth at various craft fairs. Our deepest thanks go to the leaders of all this effort, Maryann Lepic and Gail

Staples. Thanks a bunch!!

While we certainly all hope that there are no fire emergencies this year, it seems to be pretty clear that there is no free lunch with our rent. It’s been a long time since we could meet and do all our work in someone’s living room. We need a committee that focuses on fundraising. From running just the Quilt Show Boutique, Maryann Lepic has volunteered to lead an expanded committee that runs all year. We tried out several venues last year to sell our boutique items and quilt raffle tickets; some were quite successful and we’ll go back to those. We have suggestions for other ways to raise money, too: BINGO night, a pancake breakfast, charity days with local restaurants. We also need to look at possible ways to reduce our rent while still having enough

space for all our activities.

To do this we’ll need support from the whole Guild. If you have an idea for items to make and sell, are willing to donate some time to help make them, man our booth at a craft festival, or an idea for another location that might meet the Guild’s needs, please talk to Maryann Lepic. There is room on this committee for

a lot of volunteers. You could help all year, or just now and then, in this important effort.


Boutique Help eeded

This summer we will be working on items for the boutique to sell at the various shows we attend. If you have an idea or would like to volunteer to lead one of the work sessions, please contact Maryann Lepic, Betty Folkner, or Nora Eaken. Thanks for all the donations and the work you do to make the boutique a

profit-maker for the guild.

Mats for Haiti

Thank you to all who were able to join the demo/teach-in on the Mats for Haiti project. Those plastic bags CAN have new life. If you have a mat to turn in, please give it to Peggy Kenny. We are still look-ing for church/mission groups, etc. willing to take the mats to Haiti. Be assured, the mats will be used

by someone someplace.

Thank you to all you wonderful quilters for making 65 pillow cases this month. Again, I am sorry that I wasn't there for the project

but I had to go out of town. The Make A Wish Foundation is sending Macy and her family to Disney World next week. She got to go to school for l day this month. Hasn't been in school since Nov.
