Automatic line following Digitizer (FASTRAK) FASTRAK digitizes from a film negative, mounted at the photochromic film plane. The image therefore appears projected at x 10 magnification on the console screen. Specifications are given below in terms of the film plane. The film negative is normally a photographic red uction of an original source document. To obtain corresponding figures in terms of a source document, the photographic reduction factor should be applied as a scaling factor. An example is given for x 5 reduction.

Film Plane Specification Film Size 148 mm x 105 mm 5.9 in x 4.2 in Readable Area 98 mm x 68 mm 3.8 in x 2.7 in Optical Density OD1 approximately continued overleaf

Line Weights 0.030 mm to 0.30 mm 0.0012 in to 0.012 in Point Accuracy (intersections) ± 0.020 mm ± 0.0008 in in either axis Point Repeatability ± 0.010 mm ±0.0004 in in either axis for repeated measu rements of well defined points (intersections) Line Following Rates Highly convoluted line 2.5 mm/sec 0.1 in/sec Average curve 4.5 mm / sec o. 18 in / sec Straight line 5.5 mm/sec 0.22 in/sec

These approximate rates are based on the POP 11/55 computer. For the POP 11/45, rates are 10-20% slower. Linework is represented by points which when joined by straight lines do not differ from the measured centre line by more than a prescribed tolerance (± 0.01 mm). Line centre measurements are to point accuracy.

Source Document Specification ( x 5 reduction) The following specifications relate to clear line positives on stable base film. Following and throughput rates are for unbroken lines of uniform contrast, with no line separations less than the minimum line weight. In addition point symbols defined as intersections or blobs can be measured, and the edges of solid areas can be followed.

Effective Area 490 mm x 340 mm 19.3 in x 13.4 in Larger areas can be accommodated by subdivision Registration By four corner points, to any Cartesian co-ordinate system Point Accuracy ± 0.1 mm ± 0.004 in in either axis (subject to system registration accuracy) Line Weights 0.15 mm to 1.5 mm 0.006 in to 0.06 in

Approximate Throughput (x5 reduction) For features made up of continuous linework, without obscuring detail, the approximate data capture line is

T-_L_ L - 12.5 + 720

where T is the approximate time, in hours

L is the line length, in metres F is the number of features

This time is subject to variations due to operator sk ill and assumes the use of simple numeric feature codes only.

Operational Interface Close-up Screen A storage display, size 210 mm x 160 mm 8.4 in x 6.4 in mounted to the side of the main console screen Manual Cursor A refresh image in red light may be used instead of the blue refresh. It may display up to 5 characters and has a registration accuracy better than 0.25 mm (rms value over random points) when used as a manual cursor. This is equivalent to 0.125 mm when digitizing a x5 reduction source document

Installation information Physical characteristics and installation requirements are the same for FASTRAK and for HRO-1 except that HRO-1 may have a different console size.

Mechanical specification Dimensions (length x width x height) Operator Console FASTRAK (700221) or HRD-1 (700224) 2.00 x 0.69 x 1.64 metre 79 x 27 x 65 in

Operator Console HRD-1 (700074) only 1.70 x 0.69 x 1.64 metre 64 x 27 x 65 in

Optics Unit 1.40 x 0.69 x 1.64 metre 55 x 27 x 65 in

Weights Operator Console 320 kg 705/b Optics Unit 450 kg 992 /b

Maximum Floor Loadings Installation 1.80 kg/sq cm 26 /b/ sq in Operational 0.70 kg/sq cm 10 /b/sq in

4 x 180 mm antivibration mountings are fitted as standard on the optics unit

Installation requirements Floor Space The equipment requires 4.5 metre x 5.00 metre 177 in x 197 in excluding the computer. The floor should be thermoplastic covered concrete, although sealed concrete is adequate. Suspended or cavity floors are not suitable unless adequate precautions are taken. Laser-Scan wi 11 be pleased to make recom mendat ions.

Power Supply The following standard three-phase supplies are suitable. They should be protected by fused isolators rated as shown:

240/415v, ±6%, 50Hz, 30A/phase, 5 wire inc earth 220/380v, ±6%, 50Hz, 30A/phase, 4 wire inc ground 120/250v, ±6%, 60Hz, 50A/phase, 4 wire inc ground

If the equipment shares electrical supplies with heavy machinery, Laser-Scan must be consulted on necessary precautions against electrical interference.

Water Supply The equipment requires 81itres/minute 2.2 US gals I min of clean soft water (less than 200 ppm of dissolved solids) for cooling the laser. The maximum input temperature is 35"C and the maximum dissipation is 12 kW, causing a temperature rise of 21 "C. The water cooling supply may be either open or closed circuit and is connected to the optics unit by two 4.5 metre 177 in flexible hoses.

Environment Temperature controlled to 20 ± 2"C with maximum rate of change 1"C per hour. Power dissipation to the

atmosphere is 2 kW 7000 Btul Hr nominal. Relative humidity should be 50 ± 10% and the atmosphere filtered to 20 microns.

Computer The range of su itable computers is specified in LSL Publication LS IGEN 1278/3 - Computer Configurations. The computer UNIBUS must be terminated in the operator console . A UNIBUS cable of length 8 metres 25 feet is supplied. Special provisions are required if the overall UNIBUS length exceeds 16 metres 50 feet.
