Bulletin for April 2019
April, 2019
Dear Parish Family,
I want to give a shout out to Right to Life and a thank you to all of those who supported the
Fish Fry for Life dinner to help us to continue to support the gift of life. I want to thank Lauro
Braganza who has been director of our Altar Servers for 19 years. Many of our youth have
grown in their faith and service to the church through his leadership. On April 28th following
the 10:30 mass, we will have a celebration of gratitude in the Youth Center. We are inviting
all past and present altar servers and their families. Please come and join us in thanking him
for his service. I want to thank Dan Raytis and Tim Antongiovanni who will take over this
ministry.
I also want to thank Lisa and Jeff Quintana and Jackie and Roger McDonald for being the
core team for Sacred Promises and their ministry. Taking over the ministry will be Jennifer
and her husband Tyler Williamson. If you are interested in being part of our marriage
preparation program, please call the front office.
Mark your calendar for the St. Francis Church Annual Parish Barbeque Thursday, April 25th. If
you would like to volunteer and help, call the front office or sign up online. Please pray for
our catechumens and candidates who will be received into the church on Easter. This year
we will be baptizing 32 catechumens. It is exciting to see our church grow. Easter services
are posted around the church and on our website.
May this Lenten season continue to draw you closer to our lord through His passion.
Blessings,
The Month dedicated to The Holy Spirit
St. Francis Parish News & Announcements
Offered each first Friday after the Noon Mass in the Church. Next anointing offered will be
Friday, April 5, 2019.
From the desk of Heidi Scott, Director of Music and Liturgy
Why We Do What We Do As I write this we are in the midst of Lent, but planning, preparations and rehearsals are also underway for the Sacred Triduum and the Easter season. As you know Lent is 40 days and culminates with the three days of the Triduum. These sacred days remain a time for solemn reflection. Sundown on Holy Thursday to sundown on Easter Sunday is considered the most solemn part of the liturgical year. This three-day period is referred to as the Easter Triduum , also known as the Sacred Triduum, or Paschal Triduum . Liturgi-cally these 3 days are really just one great and Holy Liturgy. The evening Mass on Holy Thursday is referred to as The Mass of the Lord's Supper . This is where the Church relives the institution of the Eucharist and the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at the Last Supper, as well as the institution of the priesthood, which took place the evening before Jesus was crucified. At St. Francis, this Mass will begin at 6:00 pm and we will also include the washing of the feet. We follow the example set forth by Christ to serve and minister to each other following the example shown to us. Good Friday is a solemn day of fasting and abstinence. The liturgy on this day is not a Mass, rather it is a communion service which uses consecrated hosts from Holy Thursday. Our Good Friday liturgies are at 12 noon and 6:00pm with Stations of the Cross at the Holy hour of 3:00pm The Easter Vigil Mass is held at 8:00pm on Holy Saturday, in celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. This liturgy is perhaps the most glorious, beautiful, and holy liturgy for the Church. The vigil is divided into four parts 1) the service of light, 2) the liturgy of the Word, 3) the liturgy of Baptism and Confirmation, and 4) the liturgy of the Eucharist. This is the time where many in RCIA are brought into full communion with the Catholic Church. Many people have told me, once they have experienced the fullness of the Triduum, that they plan on coming again year after year. Many members of my choir have commented that the Triduum not only defines their faith tradition, but it reminds them every year of why we do what we do. I invite you to make the complete Triduum part of your tradition and immerse yourself in the Sacred Mystery that defines life and love.
