“The best field

education

experience is

one that

allows the

student to

learn about all

phases of

ministry ...”

Council has approved a request by

David Grim, that he be allowed to

complete his required field education

work at FCUCC.

David has preached here twice dur-

ing the past year, and is currently a li-

censed UCC minister at Plymouth

UCC in Fort Wayne, as well as a semi-

nary student at Chicago Theological

Seminary.

He will need to complete 400 hours

with us beginning in the fall of 2018

(and perhaps some hours as early as

this summer).

He will be working with the youth,

doing pastoral care, preaching, and of-

fering support in Sunday worship – and

he may even teach a class or two. I also

hope we can get him involved in our

teen coffeehouse mission at Cahoots.

The best field education experience

is one that allows the student to learn

about all phases of ministry and so that

is what we will try to offer David since

his plan is to do pastoral ministry after

his graduation from CTS.

David currently works full time for

the Fort Wayne Parks Department and

is in seminary part time. He is married

to Michelle Grim and they have five

children that range from high school to

elementary school.

So needless to say, David is very

busy. Most of his time with us will be

completed on Sundays and some

Wednesday evenings.

I am excited to have David with us,

sharing his gifts for ministry. He will

broadened his own experience as well

as ours.

Beyond that, however, is the very

important role of the local church in

preparing new leadership to nurture

and lead the church into the future.

That is a role I take very seriously and

I hope you do too.

We are blessed to have David

make this request and I hope we can

also become a blessing to him over

the next many months.

Blessings,

for April and May; Betsy sug-

gested that the youth might be

able to do a project for the June

mission trip to Peru;

Trustees: Rod reported on

the interim pastor selection

process and distributed two

sections from the UCC guide-

lines for replacing departing

pastors and asked Council

members to read them. Rever-

end Scott Bowie from the IKC

will meet with Council mem-

bers on Tuesday, March 20;

Church Council met on Sunday,

March 11, and the following

items were among those dis-

cussed/approved/reported:

Treasurer: A group will meet

with Marv Mays to prioritize his

duties; June Julien will obtain

data to help with this;

Pastor’s Report: David Grim,

a seminary student from Plym-

his field education with us,

which was approved;

Deacons: Kim said the Food

People from the community

came as well as about 50 from

the congregation;

Church Council Highlights New Business: Michelle asked

for help – or volunteers – in

writing a grant request for the

Community Foundation to ob-

tain funds to be used for the

parking lot work. Pastor Deb

will also look for grant money

to fund some of Marv’s work.

The next Council meeting will

be Sunday, April 8, following

From the Prayer Chain Holy God, in this precious time, we pause

and gather to hear your word.

To do so we break from our work responsibilities

and from our play fantasies;

we move from our fears that overwhelm

and from our ambitions that are too strong.

Free us in these moments from every distraction,

that we may focus to listen,

that we may hear, that we may change. Amen.

That We May Change – Walter Brueggemann

A huge thank-you to all those who donated to

Cahoots for the purchase of the new prep

table, pictured above. It holds all the fixings

for Cahoots’ wraps and sandwiches and makes

preparing orders so much more efficient.

Again, thank you!!
