Dear Mrs. Cacacho and Mssrs. Jake Aragon and Alvin Ang,

It is with great honor that we present our official roster of activity proposals

for this school year.

Our core group members worked very hard to make these proposals for ourvarious activities. They really put their time to make the proposals as effective aspossible in line with the goals of our committee.

We truly hope these activities we propose may help our community in more ways than one. We hope for your favorable response regarding these proposals!

Thank you very much!

PROJECT PROPOSAL

NAME OF CLUB The Green Team

PROJECT/ACTIVITY M.U.G. (Minimize Ur Garbage) ProjectTumbler Project

 DATE September 19 Onwards

 TIME Recess and Lunch Time

VENUE HS Canteen Area

I. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:

Last June 6 and June 7, the Committee Heads of the Xavier High School StudentCouncil underwent their Leadership Skills Training Workshop. A special portion of this activity was an interaction with the school director.

In this special encounter, the representative of The Green Team asked Fr. JohnnyGo, S.J., school director on how much is the school dedicated to protecting theenvironment. He replied that the school is really committed to helping theenvironment, and it is currently finding its ways to help the environment, such astrying out solar powered streetlights to be used in the parking lots. He also addedthat he wants Xavier School Nuvali to be filled with trees.

With this very inspirational goal, the core group of The Green Team met to discusson the possible ideas to make this dream of Fr. Go a reality, and with it some ideasinjected by the Science Department, the M.U.G. project came about.

In fact, when we told him how we were to make his goal for us a reality and how he would support the project, this is how he replied: ”YES! That is what I've been discussing with XSPA President Arnie Acero, how to rid ourselves of all those plastic containers, etc. I fully support you…”

The M.U.G. Project was not only a product of the dream of filling Nuvali with trees. It also came about because of the problems plastics are causing with theenvironment. Plastics continue to fill our landfills that are already saturated withthem. Plastics continue to swim among fishes that could eat and get suffocated byit. Plastics continue to kill and wreck havoc to our environment.

With this, we see how important it is to recycle the plastic we use, or better yet, remove or drastically lessen the amount of plastic used in school, and use reusablecontainers or plastics instead. Xavier has already been doing steps by askingconcessionaires to use paper products instead of plastic, but even that is harmful tothe environment because hundreds of thousands of trees are cut down every year

just to produce these paper products.

Along with this “action”, we need to secure the commitment of the students to trulymake a change in their ways. In this project, we target not only action, butcommitment to that “action”.

With these in mind, we are honored to present to you the M.U.G. Project.

II. OBJECTIVES:

For the M.U.G. (Minimize Ur Garbage) Project, we plan to be able to do the following:• raise awareness among Xaverians about how the environmental situation of

the world is deteriorating;• promote care for the environment through the use of reusable mugs and

tumblers;• give the students a chance to act upon the problems of the environment

through their own simple ways;• show students how easy, and sometimes, more cost effective being

environmentally friendly can be;• and instill in students the habit of using their own containers instead of

getting disposable ones from the vendors.

III. CHRISTIAN VALUES

God Himself told us to be stewards of his creation, to be the keepers and guardiansof the world, but nowadays, we see that we have not been fulfilling our part of thedeal. We have been continually killing the environment by using disposablecontainers, and we have been constantly killing trees without thinking of actuallyreplacing them.

With this, the values of love and respect for the environment that God has given us will be shown. Apart from that, we will be able to do something to change the wrongs we have done to the gifts God has given us.

IV. XAVIER SCHOOL MISSION-VISION

Xavier, this year, aims to mix innovation with tradition, and this project fullysatisfies that goal. We are working on tradition, drinking in containers, yet we aretaking it one step further, innovating it, to make people use reusable containers.

We also see Men fully alive, endowed with a passion for justice and the skills fordevelopment in this project, for we see how Xaverians do all these things becausethey have a passion for justice, justice for the environment that they have beendestroying. We also see through this project, the skills for development, for throughPhase 2 of the activity, they are going to get the chance to actually help out and

learn and apply how it is to plant trees.

In the activity, the C of Character, Community, and Compassion will truly be seen, for their character will be improved because they will see the bright side of beinggreen. The products produced will also form a sense of community among thestudents, as well as the tree-planting activity. Compassion will be seen, becausethese student are giving up their time just to make sure that the students of tomorrow in Nuvali will have a cleaner, greener and better environment.

V. TARGET PARTICIPANTS:

Target Participants Jobs/Responsibilities

The Green Team Core Group They will be in-charge of selling the products duringrecess and lunch.

The Green Team Designers 5 Students will be selected by The Green Team todesign the possible designs for the product.

High School Student Body They will be given the chance to buy the productsproduced.

VI. PROGRAM CONTENT / SCHEDULE OF ACTIVITIES:

Minimize Ur Garbage Project

This project is actually many projects put together and created for the Xavier HighSchool community. It will involve students to try to be “green” by using reusablecontainers, that they could bring or buy, wherein they will be donating a tree to theenvironment.

BEFORE THE PROJECT

M.U.G. Teaser• Send a viral (through teachers' and some selected students Facebook

account) that says on their status, " Have you ever been mugged?" or"Got mugged?" or "I want to get mugged!". This is just to create a buzz orinterest among students.

• Scatter the same message around the high school campus on strips of recycled cartolina. This will be attached to the walls, ceilings, top of urinals, etc.

the activity followed by a short talk to be given by the Student CouncilPresident. The short video will also tell students to bring their tumblers.

Environmental Primer• To measure the success of the project, a environmental primer will be

prepared. This will indicate the change in use from disposable containers

to reusable containers.

DURING THE PROJECT

Bring Your Mugs!• Students and teachers will be told to bring their mugs and tumblers, or

purchase one from a booth in the canteen in benefit of the environment.• They will be very much encouraged to use the mugs and tumblers to

contain the food instead of plastic and paper products.

tumblers designed by their fellow Xaverians.• These tumblers will be limited edition, as only 25

pieces will be produced. More may be produced if the project becomes successful.

• Designs will be fully Xaverian-made, and designs will be coordinated with Mr. Galvin Ngo, OperationNext Office.

• The tumbler will be sold at 150 pesos, for it will beof good quality. The tumbler to be sold isguaranteed to be of good quality, for it is actually the one Starbucks sellsfor more than 400. This tumbler is spill-proof, can hold hot or colddrinks, and can be easily washed.

• If others will still want to purchase, they may pay for the tumbler, andthe tumbler will be delivered to their classes.

• The proceeds will go to the environment, as we will fulfill Father Go’sdream of filling Xavier Nuvali with trees.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

NAME OF CLUB The Green Team

PROJECT/ACTIVITY No to Palawan Mining Campaign DATE September 12 - 16, 2011

 TIME Recess and Lunch Time

VENUE HS Canteen Area

I. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:

Palawan is one of the few remaining natural wonders of the Philippines teeming withextraordinary flora and fauna, picturesque rain forests and truly out of this worldnatural biodiversity.

But recently, there have been companies fighting to disrupt the natural ecosystemof Palawan through mining. They have been lobbying for an accord between thegovernment and themselves to a right to mine in the area.

Mining in the area will be detrimental to the health of the environment due to thefact that it pollutes waterways because of the chemicals released when mining. Italso causes deforestation because mines need space. On top of that, it wrecks thebiodiversity and balance in nature because of the disruptive man-made activitiesinvolved.

In fact, many ask, is Palawan our nation’s last ecological frontier, or will it succumbto become the next mining frontier?

II. OBJECTIVES:

Through this activity, we hope to able to:

• first and foremost, raise awareness for the bad effects of mining especially tonatural ecosystems with Palawan as a focus;

• and get signatures from students to support the movement.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

NAME OF CLUB The Green Team

PROJECT/ACTIVITY Segregation Campaign

DATE October 3, 2011 Onwards

 TIME Recess and Lunch Time

VENUE HS Canteen Area

I. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:In environmental protection, segregation accounts for a big chunk of it. To be ableto conserve the resources of today for the children of tomorrow, special steps are tobe taken to make these resources available, and one such way is propersegregation.

When we are able to segregate the trash we have, the trash we have properlysegregated may be reused, thus lessening the production of more new products which give out C02 to the atmosphere, due to less demand.

Segregation should be relaunched since most students have forgotten about theprogram already.

II. OBJECTIVES:For the activity, we plan to be able to:

• raise in students an awareness about how to segregate trash properly;•monitor the improvement in the segregation problem in the school;•see that segregation can be fun and engaging;• improve the general segregation problem in Xavier High School.

III. CHRISTIAN VALUESGod Himself told us to be stewards of his creation, to be the keepers and guardiansof the world, but nowadays, we see that we have not been fulfilling our part of thedeal. We have been continually killing the environment by emitting more and moreCO2 into our atmosphere.

PROJECT PROPOSAL

NAME OF CLUB The Green Team

PROJECT/ACTIVITY Paperless Campaign DATE August 29, 2011 Onwards

 TIME Recess and Lunch Time

VENUE HS Canteen Area

I. BACKGROUND/RATIONALE:Paper is continually wasted in Xavier School due to the fact that paper isn’t muchreused, nor is it recycled by Xaverians. Today, the Philippines has lost almost 40%of its forest cover in just the last 20 years.

This calls for action from us, students. Fr. Johnny Go, S.J., has already started thiscause by switching us to e-circulars next year, and with this, we can continue hisadvocacy to save paper and use other more accessible and effective ways of transmitting information.

With this, we present, The Green Team’s paperless campaign.

II. OBJECTIVES:With this, we plan to be able to:
