The 2009 SNGA Mojave Amateur was a fun-filled weekend packed with lots of birdies along with great memories including the in-troduction of a new and exciting division for anyone over the age of 60. The Super Sen-iors division proved that it will be a great addition to the SNGA divisional lineup. The par-72 Mojave Resort Golf Club, annually the sight of the SNGA Mojave Amateur, played to a firm and fast 6930 yards for the scratch division. The tricky, undulat-ing Bermuda greens coupled with blazing hot temperatures that easily reached triple digits; made playing conditions difficult on the entire 79 man field. In the Scratch Division, it was the “Master of Mojave” Brady Exber who claimed the title. This was Exber’s mind-boggling 10th win in the Laugh-lin area event. His two-day total of 143 (1 under par) was good enough for a 3-shot vic-tory over Craig Junio. Finishing in third, another stroke back was Richard McIntosh (147). McIntosh snaked in a long birdie on 17 on Sunday but fell out of a tie for second when his par putt on 18 lipped out of the hole. Rounding out the top 5 were Craig Erickson (149) and Aaron Slonim (152).

In the Senior Division, it was Gary Lanzen who claimed the scratch title. Lanzen finished at 5-over par 149 good enough for a 6 shot victory over Paudie O’Connor. Rounding out the top were Steven Fink (156), Keith Redmann (157), and Jim Massey (159). In the Senior Net Division, it was Paudie O’Connor who claimed first place. O’Connor finished at net 151 to take the vic-tory. Finishing behind O’Connor were Keith Redmann, Jim Massey,

and Burke Cahill who all finished at 153. In the Net Division, it was George Yocum who claimed his first SNGA tournament win in 15 years. Yocum fired steady rounds of 70, 71 to finish in red figures at 3-under par 141. The long-hitting Dennis

Moore, who only pulled driver once on Sun-day, finished in solo second place with a 2-day total of 147. Rounding out the top 5 were Butch Avant (151), Tony Troilo (152), and Dave Spitler and Richard Avant (154). In the inaugural and much anticipated SNGA Super Senior Division event, Richard Mazur claimed top prize with a 2 day net total of 147 to win by 3 shots. Finishing in second place

was Mike Bridges (150) who was very excited to be one of the inaugural contest-ants in the new division. Harold Critcher finished in third (151) and Carey Casey

and Tom Khamis rounded out the top five at 153. Albert Upsher defeated Carey Casey in a scorecard playoff to take home the low Scratch honors for

the event at 159. Overall the 14 contest-ants in the Super Senior Division were very happy to be participating and are happy to know that the division had such success that it will be implemented into the Las Vegas City Amateur and Clark County Amateur later this year. The SNGA staff would like to congratulate all the winners of 2009 SNGA Mojave Amateur. We would also like to extend a sincere thank you to all 79 competitors who made the trip ‘down south’ for the tournament. The SNGA staff would also like to thank the entire Mojave Resort Golf Club staff who were extremely courteous and helpful throughout the week. Next up is the 2009 Las Vegas City Amateur: Thursday October 8th – Sunday October 11th at Las Vegas Golf Club.

Eagle Crest Golf Course An Executive Course that packs a punch!

Eagle Crest is a 4, 067-yard, par-60 executive course built along some of the highest points in Summerlin. Besides featuring panoramic views of the city, the course offers plenty of challenge for players who appre-ciate a timely-usually about 3 ½ hours-18-hole round. Designer Casper says, "You can take any hole from this course, put it in the middle of a championship course, and it would fit right in." Built into the side of a mountain, the layout is undulant throughout, very picturesque and cozy in its surroundings of Summerlin homes.

The 12 par-3 holes offer a broad length variety, from a short 112 yards to a demanding 224 yards. Three of the six par 4s play less than 350 yards, while two, the 9th and 13th, measure just over 400 yards. The dogleg-right, 347-yard 5th hole is cleverly designed to give players risk-reward choices. Water runs from tee to green along the right side, and fairway bunkers left further pinch the landing area for a long-iron or fairway-metal tee shot. Players who instinctively reach for the driver take note: The fairway narrows beyond the bunkers, and an addi-tional fairway bunker left waits to punish drivers that shy too far away from the water. Greenside bun-kers left and back guard the putting surface. The 18th hole is a straightaway par 4 playing 370 yards. About 250 yards out, the fairway drops 40 feet towards a large green. Two large fairway bunkers left await pulled tee shots and greenside bunkers back left and right guard the front-to-back putting surface.

MetLife Auto and Home Information >>> How much money can you save? By Nicole Dutt-Roberts

As you all know from the mailing that was sent out last May, SNGA has partnered up with MetLife Auto & Home to bring a group rate to all SNGA members. I am writing this letter to tell you about my personal experience with MetLife Auto & Home. I went to snga.org and clicked on the MetLife banner, which prompted me through to a section where I answered some questions and was given an 800 num-ber to call. I found their customer service representative to be very helpful and friendly and when it was all said and done, I had a quote that was $2,900 less (this is for multiple homes and cars) than what I am currently paying with my insurance

company who I had been with for many years. With the current poor economy, everyone is finding it necessary to cut back in some way. I feel like I just found a $2,900 bill and I didn’t have to give up anything in return except a little bit of my time. I was so excited about my savings that I sent an e-mail out to SNGA’s Board to let them know. As of now, one Board member will be saving 13.7% when switching to MetLife Auto & Home and another one is saving %? Please take the 15 to 30 minutes of time it takes to compare your insurance company with the group rate through MetLife, I’m glad I did. Click Here to see how much you can save.
