The origins of the town are very old and the population is closely linked to local

traditions: festivals and events are held throughout the year and highlight the vibrant

culture of this small community. The area of Acerno includes one of the most important

water basin of Campania: its waters (Ausino) arrive to Salerno and Pompei, those of

Ferriere to Capri. Acerno is near the ski slopes of Piano Laceno (AV), the only ones in

Campania. The economic resources for the population, are linked to the exploitation of

the forests, with its transformation; harvesting and processing of chestnutsts; gathering

mushrooms and berries with their processing; breeding of sheep and cattle with dairy

production; small craft reality; summer tourism. All around the city there are woods,

lawns and paths tovisit and a lot of picnic areas.

In municipal area there are dairies, bakeries, liquor distilleries, carpenters, small craft

industries, chestnut processing industries, farms.

Moreover Acerno history is very important and interesting; it has its roots in the

Middleage.

Acerno Municipality supports the education of young people collaborating with school,

in fact a new and modern school, has been built and will be opened at the end of 2016.
