But music continues to evolve, and musicians demand inspiring new tools with which to carve out their own signature sound. Fueled by this, we developed Ibanez AE, our new flagship series of acoustic-electric guitars, designed specifically for the acoustic performer.

THE RICHEST ACOUSTIC TONEAmong the instruments built by elite acoustic guitar builders, there are some fabulous sounding guitars. Ibanez knew, at the outset, that in order to have any impact, the AE would have to be better than “pretty good.” In terms of sound, playability and build quality, it would have to extraordinary. After many experiments and dozens of prototypes, the result is a guitar and electronic system that is a potent creative tool for the serious acoustic performer.

PLUS... CONTROLLING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN YOU AND YOUR AUDIENCEWhat we eliminated may be as important as what we put in. Unlike most other acoustic/electric systems, the AE series guitars are free of components in the sound cavity that obstruct and dull acoustic response. An outboard pre-amp, featuring 5-band EQ, was developed to maximize the sound quality and level of control that smaller on-board units simply can’t match.

AE BODY SHAPEDesigned for projection, balance, and comfort, the AE’s contemporary body shape offers the best of all worlds. Slightly shallower than a dreadnought, with a deeper waist, this versatile body style produces a warm, full, sound that is responsive to the dynamics of aggressive strumming, yet projects the nuances of finger picking with clarity and focus. The deeper contours of the waist allow the guitar to sit lower in front of a seated player, optimizing comfort and access.

SCALLOP X BRACINGThe AE’s scalloped X bracing pattern was chosen for its light weight and strength. It offers the ideal combination of maximum string vibration transfer to the soundboard (the top) while providing structural integrity. The hand scalloped braces are shaved to just the right thickness, to produce rich overtones, a wide dynamic range, quick response and a sound that is balanced and bold.

TONE PROJECTION BACK BRACINGAfter much experimentation, we perfected a back brace concept that most effectively produced a harmonic relationship between the tonewood top and the tonewood back. With this design, the AE’s top and back complement one another, generating an array of favorable overtones while offering excellent projection.

THE AE NECK: COMFORT WHERE COMFORT COUNTS MOST

The AE’s “Advanced Comfort Grip” neck shape is an Ibanez original that feels “just right” to most players. Part of its excellent feel is due to its purposeful asymmetry. At the first fret, neck thickness is .79”, and then thickens ever so slightly, up .83” to the 7th fret. After the 7th fret, the neck becomes symmetrical up to the body. The neck’s back is finalized with the Ibanez “Silky Smooth Finish,” ensuring low friction and ease of play.

EXTENDED SQUARE HEEL NECK Extending the square neck heel to the end of the fretboard has a two-fold purpose: Increasing neck stability, and expanding adhesion contact area between neck and body.

MINIMAL BODY ELECTRONICSDrilling holes in a guitar’s body has become the common method to affix electronic parts, such as preamps and pickups. These holes and electronic units compromise the sound and integrity of the instrument. Our goal in designing the AE was to minimize cuts being made into the body, as well as the size of the electronic components. The T-Bar undersaddle pickup is light weight, requires only a pinhole, and is equipped with an active circuit that is not susceptible to noise.

AGP10 EXTERNAL PREAMPUnsurpassed Control for Professional Amplified Acoustic SoundBuilding a world class, professional acoustic guitar is one thing…pristine amplification for a live audience is another. From intimate club to outdoor stadium, every venue presents its own set of unique challenges. To give performers the kind of control they need, Ibanez is proud to introduce the AGP10.

Designed in collaboration with artists and professional sound engineers, the AGP10 is a stand-alone unit that mounts on a stand. In contrast to “onboard” electronics, this approach preserves the guitar’s integrity, both acoustically and structurally while still providing the performer easy access for on-the-fly adjustments.

The AGP10 can be easily mounted on a variety of stands with a cymbal clamp. (e.g. TAMA MCA53—sold separately).

AE900The AE900’s solid Indian Rosewood back and sides offer clarity in the bass strings, presence in the mid-range and bell-like overtones in the treble region. Its fretboard inlays, along with its ornate back inlay, add a subtle dash of visual allure.
