Coming in January 2018 Starting January 7th we will be changing our Kids Programs

around a little. All 4 and 5 years old will be coming up to the

Children’s Suite on the Second Floor for Sunday School.

After Sunday School the kids will come to the sanctuary for

worship in song with the adults. Then return to the Children’s

child(ren) from the Children’s Suite when church is over.

On Wednesday Nights starting January 3rd, we are offering

a class for all children 4 years and older. This will be a time

of learning more about Jesus and fun. This will also be

located in the Children’s Suite

Please invite kids to come and be a part of our Children’s

Programs. We are excited and want the Lord to bring kids

and their families to be a part of our family at HBC.

In The Storm… God Is With Us!

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” - (John

16:33) When the Bible says that God will keep us, it doesn’t mean that He will always keep us from trouble. But it does mean that He will be with us and keep us while we’re in the midst of trouble.

When the Israelites saw the Egyptian army closing in on them at the Red Sea, God had allowed them to get into that situation. Why? It was so they would pray and see His glory on display. And then, when He answered them by opening up the Red Sea so they could walk through on dry ground, they saw that God walked with them through their difficulties. God could have kept Daniel from the lion’s den. Instead, God kept Daniel in the lion’s den. God could have kept Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the fiery furnace. Instead, God walked with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace. Jesus could have kept the disciples from all the storms on the Sea of Galilee. Instead, He was with them as they went through the storms. The message of Christmas is that Jesus is our Emmanuel which means, “God with us.” But it is a message which does not only apply to the event of the incarnation, or simply the day we celebrate, the 25th of December. It is an eternal, lasting message that speaks to every situation we face in life, each and every day of our lives, and that is the truth that “God is with us!” Maybe you are facing some kind of trouble right now. Maybe you are frightened and unsure about your future. You don’t know what is going to happen next. The greatest thing that you can know above and beyond anything else is to know that you’re not alone. God is with you in the midst of your troubles. Sometimes I think we mistakenly believe that we have the right to live easy, tranquil lives, and then one day we will die in our sleep. Everything will be nice, cozy, and comfortable. But the Bible doesn’t promise that. Jesus said, “In the world you will have tribulation” (John 16:33). But He also said, “Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” Sometimes God will keep us from a problem. And sometimes He will let us go through the problem and will be with us in the midst of it. On the amazing grace journey with you, Lynwood

I’m Not A Perfect Christmas Tree

"But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ's sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I

am strong." - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Each year, about this time, I recall a special event that occurred in my life several years ago. I reconnected with an old girlfriend on Facebook . We used to date when we both lived in Tulsa. I met her one Christmas when she was setting up the Christmas tree at a local mall. I remember being fascinated at how perfect the tree appeared; especially since I knew it was a live one. I commented on the fact of how beautiful it was (and it didn’t hurt matters that she was too!) That’s when she let me in on a little secret. That tree got lots of help. In fact, to make sure it looked perfect and even from all sides, existing branches had been cut off, extra ones were collected, and each branch was cut and trimmed. Then, holes were drilled in the tree trunk and extra branches were placed in just the right spots. The tree was made to look flawless because the mall thought that dressing up the tree would make it more attractive to shoppers who came to see it. When I think about that holiday season and the message of Christ, I’m convinced that the mall had it all wrong. I think God looks at us more like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree. You know the one I mean. A tree that is far from perfect: skimpy, left behind and unwanted. A tree that has lots of gaps in the branches and need extra help getting decorated. The Apostle Paul reminds us that demonstrated His incredible power by working through him even in the midst of His weaknesses. It is also these weaknesses that reminded Paul to rely on the Lord, for he knew he could not succeed without the power of God in his life. It is tempting to rely on our own strength or think we can do everything on our own based on the talents, energy and effort we give to something. However, God wants us to realize instead that we need to rely on Him to be our strength. When we rely on Him, we will not only find ourselves stronger, but we will also continue to grow and move to deeper Christian character when we allow God's strength to work in us. So when you face situations that are difficult and challenging, be encouraged. God will make His power perfect in you... just as you are, with flaws and all.

The Last Impression Two young boys were spending the night at their grand-parents. At bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers when the youngest one began pray-ing at the top of his lungs. "I pray for a new bicycle... I pray for a new X-Box... I pray for a new DVD..."

His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said, "Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn't deaf." To which the little brother replied, "No, but Gramma is!”

Christmas Love Christmas. It is one of the most joyous Christian holidays, a time to remember the birth of Christ our savior. Christmas is a time to share our blessings with one another, and to be surrounded by the people we love. It is a time for giving, and a time for forgiving. Most importantly, it is a reminder of how much God loves us.

One of our kids recently asked, "Why did God send Jesus if He knew He was going to die?" In fact, Jesus wasn't just going to die, Jesus was going to be mocked, beaten, tortured, and then sentenced to die a slow, painful death by crucifixion. All at the hands of those He came to save.

It's funny, because as Christians we like to remember the good times in Jesus' life. We love to tell the Nativity story, but we forget that shortly after His birth Christ needed to flee from Herod's army. We tell about His wisdom, His love, and His healing, but we forget about His suffering. We forget the price He paid, for our sins. We forget the lengths that God went to show us His love (Romans 5:8).

To be honest, thinking about this leaves me dumbfounded, because God knew what would happen to His Son. God had told Isaiah along with many other prophets of the suffering the Savior would endure. God knew that the very creatures He had created, would crucify Him for trying to save us from ourselves. And yet, God lowered Himself in Christ, feeling physical pain and suffering. God lowered Himself, and let mere humans beat Him and mock Him (Philippians 2:7). The God who has all the power of the universe, humbled Himself to be lower than the angels, and to die at our sinful, hateful hands (Hebrews 2:9).

God knew this would happen ahead of time, and yet He loved us so immensely that He sent His Son, the third person of the Trinity, to suffer a painful death, so that we could spend eternity with our Heavenly Father (John 3:16). That's the story of love. That is the story of Christmas.

Today, remember the price God paid for you, because of how much He loves you. Remember what true love is, and share that love, God's love, with all.

Is Hilton Baptist Church on Your Christ-mas Gift List?

As we come to the end of 2017, we have been blessed with both special provision and special needs. To meet our budget projections, we are believing for a generous outpouring of offerings before December 31st.

As with any older building structure, we had special needs in our heating and air conditioning systems this past year. Our repairs and needed replacement of several units cost around $33,400. Through careful budgeting and a provision made possible by special bequeathed gift from a dear, long time member, Edith Bradley, we were able to make and pay for these extraordinary, but necessary repairs.

Yet, even facing such daunting financial challenges, the light of this truth still shines brightly. Christmas is a time when we remember how God poured His very best into the poverty of our humanity. And because He gave the very best gift He could give, we celebrate our salvation with joy today.

What would God have you do to honor Him as 2017 comes to an end? The faith we as a church are willing to demonstrate in December will help set the goals we can aim for in 2018. The harvest of our future is made possible by the seeds of our faith and financial gifts we sow now – Let’s celebrate all God has done for us this Christmas by doing all we can for Him!

Help us to

finish stronger than ever financially in

2017!

Please consider making a

special year-end

gift before December 25th?
