Lilliput Sea Scouts formed in 1929 with a small group of friends who
met regularly under a lamp-post on the brow of Lilliput Hill. A resident in the area took pity on them and allowed the group to use the local Mission Hall. The group expanded and became the 1st Lilliput Scout
Troop. Gradually, the group turned to the sea and by 1936 the 1st Lilliput
Sea Scouts were in existence. During the war the group performed coastguard duties at Shell Bay. The
boathouse was in Pearce Road, Parkstone and sailing was allowed on
Poole Park lake.
The original four members who used to meet under the lamp post Tony Greeny, Phil Dutfield, Ted Brackstone and Les Heyward. At the end of the war the group paid £100 to the Harbour Commissioners for an area of mud flats in Parkstone Bay. After some reclamation work a pier was built and a fleet of boats appeared with small boat-houses. By the end of the 1950s Lilliput Mission Hall and the boathouses had become too small and in 1962 the wooden hall and boathouse was built. The wooden hall was donated to the Group and was a 1st World War Wrens sleeping accommodation.
In the mid 1960s the Lilliput Sea Scout Group formed with the Parkstone Cub Pack of the Ashley Cross Congregational Church. We had a cub pack each and their cub pack joined us.
In 1988, a Beaver Colony was formed and in 2011 Gulliver Explorer’s unit was created. Today the group has two sea scouts units, 2 cub packs and 2 beaver colonies
In 2002 the old hut was replaced due to is bad condition, the new Scout hall was completed , and will be with us for many years to come.
2010 the old jetty had got to a point where it was dangerous to use, over 3 weekends the old jetty was removed and a new jetty rebuilt in its place. The old one had lasted over 50 years.
