    The History of PT. PLNDefinitionPerusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) is an Indonesian state-owned company tasked with supplyingthe electricity needs of the Indonesian people. Total capacity of PLNs power plants at end -2013had grown to 46.104 MW. The company holds a monopoly on the distribution of electricity inIndonesia and it is the second-largest state company by assets.The State of the Republic of Indonesia owns 100 percent of PLN's shares. However, the companydoes issue series of corporate bonds, sukuk (Islamic bonds) and global bonds.

    Summary (before Indonesias Independence day) 1 st version:

    In 1945, Indonesia's President Soekarno established the Electricity and Gas Bureau, under theDepartment of Public Works and Energy with a total power generation capacity of 157.5 MW. In1961, the Electricity and Gas Bureau was renamed BPU-PLN (Board of General Administration ofthe State Electricity Company) working in the fields of electricity supply, gas and coke. Fouryears later, the BPU-PLN was disbanded and two state-owned enterprises were inaugurated, i.e.Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to manage electric power and Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN)to manage the country's natural gas transportation and distribution.

    The history of electrical companies in Indonesia began at the end of 19th century when Dutchcolonialists established the first electrical generator .[2] The electrical energy enterprise thenexpanded into the public company, NV.NIGM, formerly dealing in gas area only, whichenlarged its business into the area of electrical energy. In World War II, the Japanese tookcontrol of the electrical companies. After Indonesian Independence day on August 17, 1945,Indonesian youth took control of the electrical companies in September 1945 and handed themover to the government of the Republic of Indonesia. The history of the electricity sector sincethen has been one of continuing institutional change .[3]

    On 27 October 1945 President Sukarno established the Jawatan Listrik dan Gas (Bureau ofElectricity And Gas) with a generation capacity of only 157.5 MW. On 1 January 1961, the

    bureau of Electricity and Gas was changed into BPU PLN ('' Badan Pimpinan Umum PerusahaanListrik Negara ) which dealt in the areas of electricity, agas, and kokas (a type of fuel derivedfrom the remains of coal).
