I confess to Almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters

all the Angels and Saints, and you, my brothers and sisters,

to pray for me to the Lord our God.

in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

    INVITATION TO COMMUNION

Priest: Behold the Lamb of God; behold him who takes away the sins of the

COMMUNION HYMN: “Child of the Poor”

    1. Helpless and hungry, lowly he lies,

Wrapped in the chill of midwinter; comes now among us,

Born into poverty’s embrace, new life for the world.

Looking for shelter among us? Who is the outcast?

Who do we see amid the poor, the children of God?

    necessi,es.

our most mighty protector, be kind to us and from heaven assist

us in our struggle with the power of darkness.

As once you rescued the Child Jesus from deadly peril, so

now protect God's Holy Church from the snares of the enemy

and from all adversity; shield, too, each one of us by your

  • FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK —DECEMBER 27, 2020 (PG. 1)

    Thanks for Angel Tree

    Angels

    and Advent Angels

It has been quite inspiring for me to see the outpouring of

so many at St. Stan’s and Holy Ghost during recent

weeks bringing gifts for many of our elderly and shutins

and the Stephen Center and Bethlehem House. Thanks

are in order as well to the volunteers in our St. Vincent de

Paul groups who coordinated the entire effort. It brought

out the true spirit of Christmas.

THE FEAST OF THE HOLY FAMILY AND

    MARRIAGE & FAMILY LIFE

The Church dedicates the Sunday aer Christmas as

the Feast of the Holy Family. Pope Leo XIII established

this feast in 1889. The devo#on to the Holy Family was

actually born in Bethlehem. How so? The shepherds

went to adore the Child and, at the same #me, they gave

honor to His family. Later the three wise men came from

the East to adore and give honor to the newborn King

with gis that would be safeguarded by His family.

The Gospel passage today from St. Luke recalls the

“Presenta#on of Jesus in the Temple” on the 8

    th

    day

aer his birth to carry out what was expected under the

dictates of the Jewish Law. This reminds us that we,

also, should make sure that we are following all the

precepts of the Church in our homes and families.

Fathers and mothers have a par#cular responsibility for

    that.

The Second Va#can Council’s “Constuon on the

Church in the Modern World” expresses “high esteem”

for marriage and family life, and speaks of the “loy

calling” of spouses and parents. The #tle of one of the

cons#tu#on’s sec#ons refers to “the nobility of

marriage and the family,” a nobility to be fostered. The

cons#tu#on also says marriage is a “vocaon,” which

means it is a calling from God and carries with it sacred

    responsibili#es.

    In their 2009 na#onal pastoral le5er #tled “Marriage:

Love and Life in the Divine Plan,” the U.S. Catholic

bishops had this to say about marriage as a voca#on:

“The church teaches that marriage is an authenc

vocaon or divine call. As a vocaon, marriage is just

as necessary and valuable to the church as other

    vocaons.”

The bishops explain that “the call to love reaches

beyond the home to the extended family, the

neighborhood and the larger community.” They add

that “this marital and familial love finds its complete

expression, following the example of Jesus himself, in a

willingness to sacrifice oneself in everyday situaons

    for one’s spouse and children.”

It is so sad that all too many #mes individuals lose

sight of the sacrificial nature of family love and see it as

a means to merely sa#sfy their own personal needs.

Every Catholic is bound by the marriage laws of the

Church meaning they are required to be married in the

Catholic Church (or granted a dispensa#on from the

Catholic form of marriage.) When that has not been

done they automa#cally lose the privilege of receiving

absolu#on in confession or receiving Holy Communion

(except in danger of death). In such situa#ons they need

to contact their parish to inquire about the procedures

to follow to have the marriage “blessed” in the Church.

We are always happy to do that.

Benedict XVI on the Holy Family

“The family is the privileged setting where every

person learns to give and receive love. The family is an

intermediate institution between individuals and society,

and nothing can completely take its place.

The family is a necessary good for peoples, an

indispensable foundation for society, and a great and

lifelong treasure for couples. It is a unique good for

children, who are meant to be the fruit of the love, of the

total and generous selfgiving of their parents.

The family is also a school that enables men and

women to grow to the full measure of their humanity.

O God, who in the Holy Family left us a perfect

model of family life, lived in faith and obedience to your

will, help us to be examples of faith and love for your

    commandments.”

    ANNUAL APPEAL

The Archbishop’s Appeal is winding down but it is

not too late to make a donaon. Our two parishes are

inching toward our goals. This year, during the

pandemic, support from the archdiocese for various

ministries and outreach programs has been more

    important than ever.

Your prayers and support of the Annual Appeal help

unite us. As of Monday, December 14, Holy Ghost

    parishioners have currently commi-ed $12,465 (98.4%)

towards the goal of $12,670. WAY TO GO! St.

    Stanislaus parishioners have commi-ed $11,229

(77.3%) towards the goal of $14,531. We are most

grateful to all our parishioners who have already made

a gi< to the Archbishop's Annual Appeal. Thank you for

    your generosity.

    From: THE IMITATION OF CHRIST

“You are good at excusing and justifying your own

deeds, and yet you will not listen to the excuses of

others. It would be more just to accuse yourself and

to excuse your brother. If you wish others to put up

with you, first put up with them.”

(THE IMITATION OF CHRIST is a spiritual classic

by Thomas à Kempis, first composed in Latin c. 1418

1.) MUSIC at St. Stan’s: We welcome our new

organist at the 8 a.m. Sunday Mass, Joseph Krupa. His
