The Hoosiers Goodbye Mr. A For my first music video analysis I have chosen The Hoosiers Goodbye Mr. A, you can see the full music video on YouTube, this is a narrative/ performance video, telling the audience the story of the downfall the Mr. A; and the rising of the new superheroes The Hoosiers. The music video fits the lyrics of the song as it tellsus how the superhero who let his fame and his promises get in the way which eventually lead to his down fall. The lyrics ‘You can try and stay magic, and expect me to buy it!’ along with the Mr. A merchandise, explains that they are casting him out as he has become infatuated with his fame.Also the lyrics ‘You had all the answers, by no human touch’ may suggest that all through he knew what to do, he did not act upon it, falling his purpose as hero and a protector of the people. As the music video continues we see they planning how they’re going get rid of him, and take his place as the new heroes. The director has use a wide range of shots throughout the video to present the band as they play and the tell the story. In the performance of, the usual set of shots are used, close ups of each individual member as they play, focusing on the lead singer and guitarist, possibly showing that this is more about revenge or payback as there is a lot of hostility in his voice and on his faceas he performs. High angel shots to show the rest of the band play, and tracing shots as they move around the performace area which has been made to look like the HQ of their operations. When their playing the ‘Superheroes’ they use a series of dramatic of them preforming several daring acts as heroes as they gradually replace Mr A and become the new heroes. To separate them form their hero personas them use several over the shoulder, and high and low angel shots showing them as the more dominate, brave and heroic side of themselves, rather than their more aggressive side who are angry at the their former hero and are planning his demise. The video has been cleverly done to as the first section in which we see the Hoosier band preforming before the camera in their secret hideout. Transitioning between the

The Hoosiers – Goodbye Mr. A

three members of the band is kept in time with the music as we focus on each person; but as we move through the video the transitions between the actions of each individual hero slows as the music reaches its climax before it finishes with the Mr a lost in orbit above the earth. And finally finishing with extreme close-up of his eye as is suddenly opens again ending the music video in a similar way to the old superhero films were the villain comes back to life to seek his revenge.
