Followers of Jesus saw their darkest days replaced with the miracle of hope and eternal life. Christians today take time for self-examination and reflection during Lent. "Going dark" for a few weeks prepares us to fully experience those first rays of resurrection light on Easter. This prayer was composed by the Rev. The sparks cast by your love dance and spread and burst forth with resurrection light. Gracious God, We praise you for the light of new life made possible through Jesus. We praise you for the light of new life that shone on the first witnesses of resurrection. We praise you for the light of new life that continues to shine in our hearts today. We pray that the Easter light of life, hope and joy, will live in us each day; and that we will be bearers of that light into the lives of others. Amen. Our Confirmation class has been meeting for over a year. The kids’ schedules have been so full, that it’s

been challenging to meet. They have proven to be a thoughtful and committed group. They are supportive

of each other, and they show true affection for their church family. Confirmation class includes some of

the classic elements with many updates, as each generation has different needs. Please come and support

these wonderful youth as they take the step to become adult members of the church on Sunday, April 14,

which happens to be Palm Sunday. We will confirm the group during worship and have a cake afterwards

God Bless Jaden, Jordan and Sean!

FREEZER AVAILABLE The former kitchen freezer is available on a first-come, first-serve basis. It is 7 cu.’, is pick up only, and for a freewill dona-tion. Please call the church office if interested.

TWO CAN, THE TOUCAN

TWO CAN, the Toucan, will be visiting

us on Sunday, April 7th, and collecting

“pop can money” for the UCC Women’s

project to help CWS (Church World

Service) with shipping costs. CWS is a nondenomi-

national organization that does humanitarian work

all over our the world, and freight costs to send aid

is a big chunk of their budget. TWO CAN says “If

we all do a little bit, together we can make a Big

difference”! TWO CAN got his name from asking

us to cash in our returnable cans, and if it is only

two cans, you have helped by contributing $0.25 =

“TWO CANs and a Little Bit”. ...If you have collect-

ed lots of cans, Checks can be made out to UCC

Women of Michigan and designate it to the TWO

CAN Project.

WE’VE GOT A

NEW FREEZER!!

In March we received an anony-

mous donation to purchase a new,

larger, more efficient freezer.

A new freezer was purchased…

but wait, that’s not all. In order

to fit this larger freezer into the kitchen, wall

hung and floor mounted cabinets had to be moved

over. This required the removal and reinstallation

of floor tile and the painting of the exposed wall

bricks. Through the efforts of Rick Cole and Har-

ry Drummond the modifications were made and it

looks great! Thanks to the anonymous donor

(whoever you are), Rick and Harry. With the new

freezer, we now have the ability to store products

for distribution through our Food Pantry program

(we have access to meat products through Glean-

ers at a reduced price) that we couldn’t handle

without freezer space. The freezer also provides

the church with frost-free freezer space for our

use. This is an example of how Hope UCC members

& friends donate their resources and talents for

the benefit of the church and those whom we

serve. Thanks again!

THANK YOU

Thank you to everyone who

has sent cards. I’m in a mo-

torized wheelchair and have a

van to transport me around. Everything is going

as good as can be expected. A special thanks

to Helen Stovel and Shirley Kirby.

Dick Nobis

THANK YOU Thank you so much for your kind

words, cards and memorial gifts

in memory of my mother. Your

support has meant a great deal

to Jim and me as we walk

through this valley of grief. Having a church family

is a huge blessing!

With Deep Appreciation, Pastor Meg and Jim

WE NEED USHERS!

If you can spare about one hour of a month to

serve Hope Church as an usher, we would greatly

appreciate it. Please talk to Carl Frank or call the

HOPE PANTRY

Our Hope Pantry is always looking for

a few good volunteers. Once a month

you will have an opportunity to sign up and help our

neighbors. On the day before our pantry, six

volunteers are needed at 1:00 pm for about one and

one half hours to unload and stock bread and

produce. Then the rolling pantry shelves are put in

place for Saturday, and we prepare the shopping

bags. On Saturday, six volunteers are needed to

shop with our clients, weigh the bags and help them

to the cars. Helpers need to arrive by 9:50, and we

should be closed up by 12:30. Please consider helping

with this rewarding mission.

We, as a church, and each one of us individually, are

blessed to be able to support our neighbors, and this

mission returns so much to all of us. We hope that

you have the opportunity to participate in this

ongoing project, as we continue to grow HOPE as a

pantry and an extension of our church.

We will continue to need your support to keep the

pantry stocked. Your donations of paper towels,

toilet tissue, tooth paste, bar soap, shampoo, laundry,

dish detergent, and feminine hygiene products are

very helpful.

April

April is a wonderful month. Usually, the winter snows are gone but can occasionally

surprise us. Many are looking forward to warmer weather and early spring plants.

So the celebration of Earth Day, April 22, 2019, is a perfect day to not only refresh

ourselves but also refresh are resolve to Mother Earth. Below is our own Debbie Em-

mons with her thoughts and ideas on Earth Day and Hope UCC.

Regards, Karen Miller

EARTH DAY APRIL 22, 2019

In the beginning, God created the heavens and earth. He made all living things and we

are all living things, and we are all thankful for his blessings. He made the ground we

walk on so we can plant a seed to grow flowers, grass and vegetables. So with saying

that, people have mixed household items to clean with and to make their homes look and

smell better. Others try to clean up their neighborhoods, but the biggest problem we

all have is littering! I used to litter all the time but not anymore, because when I'm sit-

ting outside on my balcony or in a park or even taking a walk, I like to see the beauty

that God created. I would like to celebrate God's beauty on April 27, 2019 from 10

a.m. to 12 p.m. by cleaning up the church grounds. I’m asking for volunteers for a

couple hours that Saturday to help me clean-up, so please sign up in Fellowship Hall.

Also, bring your rakes and brooms. Thank you!

Debbie Emmons

TEACHERS FOR SUNDAY SCHOOL

ARE NEEDED! If you love to be with children

and can give one hour on a Sunday to help teach

our children to grow in their faith and have fun

doing it, we could use your help! If you are

interested, contact Pam Flaherty.

COFFEE HOUSE FOLLOW UP

The Hope Coffeehouse Evening on

Saturday, March 23, was a huge suc-

cess! We had so many talented people

step up to perform, including the

church praise band! Church members

and friends of all ages showed up to

play games, listen to music, get fun life advice, and

hear spoken word poetry. Everyone enjoyed food and

treats, while also helping us make three blankets and

dozens of decorated paper bags for two of our many

ministries. Over $300 was raised for the Phusion

Youth Group and the evening was full of fun. We want

to extend a very special thank you to all of the amaz-

ing and wonderful volunteers who showed up to help

set up, and those who stayed after the event to help

with cleanup. The event would not have been such a

success without your help! Thank you to all who donat-

ed their time, money, and talents for the Hope Cof-

feehouse evening.

HOPE CHURCH PRAYER LIST

Our congregation knows that prayer is our tool for connecting to God. Togeth-er, we pray in worship and we pray at home. Please check the prayer list in both the newsletter and the bulletin to help us keep our prayer requests current. You may contact the church office to remove or add a name. We also have a prayer sculpture in the church lobby and you are welcome to write a prayer re-quest on a heart and hang in on the sculp-ture. When we lift our concerns in pray-er, we will surely know the presence of the Lord.

Please remember those on our Prayer List … with a phone call, card, note and keep them in your Thoughts & Prayers. For those who are silent with your concerns and needs, a special prayer for ALL of you to have the strength, courage and pa-tience to deal with your individual situation.

GENE McCORNACK SERVICES A memorial service will be held
