Live Local, Train Local, Work Local Initiative
As part of NHI’s growing portfolio of hospitality
training programmes and as a significant
provider of trained professionals, resourcing
local hotels in the Muttrah/Wadi Kabir area NHI
launch Live Local, Train Local, Work Local. “This
initiative is a direct response to the increasing
need of local talent in the area” stated Robert
MacLean, Principal of NHI. Robert adds, “When
you consider that there are the New Sheraton,
Ritz Carlton, Shangri La, Muscat Bay and Siffah
being developed. It’s a great opportunity for
people living in the area to train and be
employed close to home.”
NHI have already started to visit the local
schools to create awareness and will be
ongoing this
year. As part of the school visits NHI are
accompanied by some of their NHI Success
stories. This
week NHI were honored to have Hafidh Al
Hadhrami now an asset manager with Omran
looking after
Several hotels. They also take current students
with them to allow school pupils to ask
questions on
their experiences . NHI sees it as its duty to
ensure there is as much awareness as possible
The News
Fifteen Omani trainee cooks began ten
months training at NHI, supported by
the National Training Fund, with
guaranteed employment from
Renaissance Services on completion.
The trainees will be provided with
theoretical knowledge and equipped
with practical skills before joining the
Renaissance Team across various
corporate operations.
At the end of May NHI students were visited by Omani Adventuress Anisa Al Raisi,
having recently become the first Omani woman to ski the Geographic North Pole
in eight days. Anisa joined the Women’s Euro Arabian North Pole Expedition 2018,
led by British polar explorer Felicity Aston MBE, and set off on an incredible
expedition skiing over 80km on challenging terrain.
Renaissance Services Developing Young Omanis
Renaissance CEO, Stephen Thomas, said, “We support this
programme to develop a local workforce. We are
committed to ever-increasing In Country Value by driving
meaningful initiatives that achieve greater Omani employment, maximum use of
local goods and services, and effective Domestic Direct Investment."
“Delighted to welcome Anisa, NHI students
gained inspired motivation from hearing
about her experiences to volunteer for our
Outward Bound sponsored camping trips to
Jebal Akdar. As part of NHi’s Pride in the
Job programme, Iftikhar, its critical students
harness opportunities like this that involve
task sharing and resilience,” said NHI’s
principal.

NHI Students off to Jebal Akhder
A group of National Training Fund students from NHI went to Jebal Akhder in June
sponsored and organized by Oman Outward Bound. The students spent three days
camping and trekking the mountains, learning about working together as a group and
relying on each other. The experience helped to develop skills in self-discipline and
team working
and group decision-
making. These skills
are an integral part
of NHI’s Iftekhar
training, linked to the
employment-funded
programme. Robert
MacLean, Principal said, “We are very grateful to Oman Outward Bound for providing
opportunities for NHI students to learn new skills in a totally different environment which
will enhance their readiness for the workplace when they complete their course."
Anantara Jebal Akhder developing Omanis
Members of the Anantara Jebal Akhder Team
visited NHI in July to interview and select
potential trainees to work in their five star
properties. Trainees selected will train under the
funding of the National Training Fund or the PDO
initiative and all have guaranteed jobs before
they start the training. During their time at NHI
the team enjoyed lunch at NHI’s CLASSROOM
Restaurant where they were able to see the live
training in the kitchen and in the restaurant. The
Anantara Team were impressed with the calibre of candidates at NHI, the facilities
and our training programme content.
