COMMITTEE TIME
The Urgency for Relational Leadership in a Disengaged World
The coming apart of our rela-tionships – at home, work, in politics and faith – leads us into the cost and dysfunction of what Rob-ert Hall calls the Disengagement Economy. This relational decline calls for an intentional form of lead-ership – Relational Leadership.
Hall will share examples and the latest research to describe the prob-lem, quantify its impact and outline what we can do as Relational Lead-ers in the workplace.
Your Transportation committee has openings for the coming year. The volunteers help those members who are unable to drive to meetings and club events. This is an opportu-nity to join Bob Patton, Bill Kel-ly, Fred Brown, Doug Means, Fred Speno, John Whaley, Steve Franks, Chad Harbour, and Larry Johnson.

This is a picture of the new banner that was donated to the Hillcrest HS Interact Club by our very own Lynn Surls. He was so generous to have had two of these banners made for Interact to display when their club is invol-ved in public events like our 4th of July parade, homecoming, Santa's Helpers, etc.

President Tracy Gomes called the meeting to order. John Glancy gave the in-vocation. Philip Ray led the Pledge of Alle-giance and The Star Spangled Banner. Then he introduced our visitors and guests. Herb Ziev introduced our Marketplace Advertiser of the week. PP Greg Pape reminded us that all members should contribute to the Ro-tary Foundation this year, but can make a do-nation of $26.50 or $100 or more. He then in-troduced Happy Franklin who described the Rotary Foundation as one of the best char-ities in the world and reviewed some of the as-sistance the Foundation gives people around the world. She said that donations of $1000 make you a Paul Harris Fellow; $10,000 makes you a Major Donor, and $250,000 makes you a member of the arch Klumpf Society. She said that PP Phillip Bank head, PP Doug Means and Nolan Duck would be reminding

every one to donate. Tom Swift introduced our returning member Lily Hogarth. Sarah Oliai intro-duced our Community Connections
guest, Kimberly Martinez, with the Elisa Pro-ject. This or-ganiza-tion fights eating disor-ders and educates kids about the disorders. Thirty million people in the U.S. have some sort of eating disorder, and 900,000 Texas's youth shoe some indications of a disorder.
Connect.Howard Parker introduced our
speaker today, Bob Meckfessel, an architect and influential leader, who
gave his "Perspective on Dallas Forward: A Review of Planning Issues Facing Dallas for Decades to Come.". He began by saying that he was a community activist junkie, but trying tom recover. He
said he would talk about the central areas of Dallas, and that "downtown" is starting to be redefined. He said that we are reshaping our city. He began with the Trinity Corridor. It was started in 1998 and used a balanced plan, in-cluding a toll road, recreation and sustainabil-ity. The plan won awards and national recogni-tion, but in 2014 a new plan emerged. Ten ar-chitects compared the two plans, and even The Dallas Morning News came out against the new plan. In 2015 Dallas brought together a "dream team" to create a new plan, but the matters has not been resolved. However, the Audubon Center, two Calatrava bridges and the Continental Bridge park have been com-pleted. For more information see www.Trinity corridor.com or www.Trinity trust.org. The Texas Department of Transportation is doing an innovative study of the highways around downtown, asking what is needed for transpor-tation, beyond just highways. They look at re-moving the overhead portion of I-45. The May-or has asked TXDOT to look at City Map with and without the Trinity Toll Road. More infor-mation is at www.citymap.com. Klyde Warren Park has been very successful, and there are plans to expand the concept to other areas, at the zoo, over I-30 near Deep Ellum, and in Cedars. These may have more economic im-pact than Klyde Warren because there will be more land around them that can be developed. Regarding Fair Park it has been difficult to bal-ance preservation and economic development.

The easiest kind of relationship for me is with ten thousand people. The hardest is with one.
