Memories to RevisitJust this past week, I found a page on Facebook

dedicated to memories from my hometown. I wasso excited to share bits and pieces of history withfellow townmembers - many of whom moved awayas I have done - to complete the memory puzzle.

The topics discussed included which stores occu-pied the rst strip mall in town. What was the rstdrive through fast food restaurant, and where wereoriginal businesses located before existing locations.

With the discussions, many memorieswere drug out from the past for each ofthe participants, sharing songs, gradua-tion memories, favorite cars or simplepasttimes. I was surprised at how much Ihad forgotten, only to be reminded of thegood old days.

Im sure if I searched long enough, there would beother sites that are dedicated to memories: photo memo-ries, vacation memories, childhood memories... to namea few.

This whole issue is is centered around revisiting thememories of places to go, things to do and people to see.But while we are remembering the past, lets not forgetto make new memories to revisit in the future. Monthly Feature: Memories Revisited


The City of Muncie will celebrate their150th Anniversary in 2015. Contrary to popu-lar legend, the city is not named after amythological Chief Munsee, rather it wasnamed after Munsee Town, the white set-tlers' name for the Indian village on the site,"Munsee" meaning a member of the Lenapepeople or one of their languages.

To kick-o events to celebrate the city,Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler will read aproclamation at the February 2 meeting ofthe Muncie City Council. February 2, 1865was the date the Common Council voted toincorporate.

Additionally Tyler will speak to the MuncieNoon Rotary club on February 3, and will bepresent at the February 4 Muncie on theMove Breakfast, an event of the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

These events will be the beginning of a longcelebration that will culminate with activitiesat the Muncie Arts Walk, scheduled for Octo-ber 1, 2015. The public is invited to join in avariety of events throughout the year to helpcelebrate this occasions.

A steering committee has been working tooutline some special activities as well as

highlighting great events that already takeplace in Muncie throughout the year. TheCity of Muncie has a rich history and we areworking with many groups to help promotethat.

A Facebook Page has been developed tohelp promote the activities that the commu-nity can become involved in. Many will beopen to the public and free of charge, includ-ing the Fourth of July Fireworks. Otherevents many have a gate fee.

Among the activities being planned in-clude: The State of the City Address on April16th at Horizon Convention Center byMuncie Mayor Dennis Tyler. NeighborhoodAssociations are working on special activitiesand Horizon Convention Center is hosting aGala event on September 19, 2015.

Organizations that would like to plan anevent are encouraged to do so.
