And I said, "A plumb line." Then the Lord said: "Behold, I am setting a plumb line In the midst of My people Israel; I will not pass by them any- more. Amos was prophesying in a time when Israel had completely turned away from God. In the preceding passages God had said he would bring com- plete destruction on Israel as punishment for their sins. The prophet Amos interceded for them and as the scriptures says in James 5:16, “The fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Thus God turned from complete destruction to performing some severe remodeling. Israel was built by the hand of God like a mighty wall. Over time exposure to the environment had caused the wall to bulge and sag. God’s remedy was to put a plumb line, (a tool to see how far the wall was out of line) to the wall to see how much of the wall would have to come down. This has a simple and relevant application to the events that have tran- spired this week. Gay marriage has been forced on the states and will most definitely be forced on churches as well. Justice Roberts in his de- scent says the following, “The majority graciously suggests that religious believ- ers may continue to “advocate” and “teach” their views of marriage. The First Amendment guarantees, however, the freedom to “exercise ” religion. Ominously, that is not a word the majority uses.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts- of-faith The implication of this and other statements from the ruling is Churches who refuse to comply will lose their tax exempt status and face litigation from activist groups. They give us the freedom to believe the truth but not to act on it. This is the future; the plumb line has been dropped. The time is now for the church to stand for what it believes or simply go away. Too long the Chris- tian culture at large has been silent on important issues of our day. Yes we have groups who fight for rights and against evil but I am referring to the average believer in the pew. You see we stand by and listen and laugh at the worldliness around us. We let the children act brutish with nothing more than a brief thought of the unfitness of the parents. Maybe its time we speak up. Maybe it is time for those involved in the school system to say we are not going to allow the gay lifestyle to be taught to our second graders. Most importantly it is time to vote politicians in office who will stand for religious liberty. The list of fights could be endless nevertheless it is time we joined the fight. The Gay community represents less the three percent of the population while the church represents 70% of the population. We have a big voice and an even bigger God! The plumb line has been dropped, what will it say about you?

The Baby Kits for Appalachian Regional

Ministry (ARM) mission project is a great

opportunity to get all ages of church mem-

bers involved in missions.

Please place the following items (new, not

used) in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag:

Baby gown

Receiving blanket

Baby brush

Baby care items – shampoo, wipes, baby wash, lotion, etc.

Booties

Pacifier

Baby bottles

You may also send disposable diapers, baby toys, and New Testa-

ments or Bibles (modern translations) separately (not in the Ziploc

bags). The mission teams will give these items out along with the kits

as they share with the mothers.

Please package kits (with the name of your church and the number of

kits noted on the outside of the box) and ship them no later than

July 31st to:
