Editorial The Gospel and Simplicity

The Sesquicentennial of The Gospel According to Spiritism lent an

outstanding meaning to the events that took place in 2014. This celebration was commemorated during different events, obviously with encouragement towards reading, study and the dissemination of the Spiritist Codification.

FEB published several titles alluding to the importance of the Basic Works of Kardec. The Course based on The Gospel According to Spiritism, that FEB implanted more than two years ago, has sparked interest in many parts of Brazil. NEPE – the Centre for Studying and Researching the Gospel in FEB has stimulated studies and already created similar Groups in eight State Federations.

However, there is one characteristic that must mark all forms of spreading the Gospel according to Spiritism and that is simplicity!

For this, without any high-flown intellectualism, the challenge is to communicate with those who accept Spiritism and arrive at Spiritist Centres interested in a liberating message that is heartfelt and speaks of peace.

While there are people able to search and deepen their study of the Gospel and there are events that stimulate the action of these multipliers, most Spiritist Centres have as their target audience people who are lonely and in need of comfort, guidance and enlightenment!

We also consider that when clarifying the moral teachings according to Spiritism directed towards ordinary people, then books with lessons taught by Jesus – like the style of Jesus in the Home1 – are very helpful for explaining the Christian message. Parables - the method adopted by Christ – represent a strong potential for moral and spiritual enlightenment.

Without any suggestion of proselytism, we understand that welcoming ordinary people at Spiritist meetings is a task of first importance for the times we are living today. Let us remember that Spiritism has arrived at the precise moment to fulfil its task, being that of consoling, helping, enlightening and contributing towards spiritual liberation, specially during this phase of transition that we are living: "[...] The Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, that the Father will send in My name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you".2

There is space for the studious and for the ample action of disseminating the message from "the Guide and Model of Humanity".

CENTRAL AMERICA & THE CARIBBEAN COORDINATION DEPARTMENT

Between 23rd & 27th November the Spiritist Society "Más Luz" (More Enlightenment) from Cuba, in celebrating their 103 years, held a Spiritist Gathering dedicated to Children. During these days there were lectures, workshops, round-tables and visits to various Spiritist Centres. The following themes were addressed: "The infancy of the Spirit and our plans for life"; "Mediumship in infancy, the physical and moral consequences of its exercise"; "Behaviour to be followed"; "The family facing mediumship in infancy" and "An example – the best teacher for the formation of moral values for our children".

On Saturday 25th November the trimestral conference was held at the Cadena Heliosóphica Guatemalteca, in Tejutla San Marcos. On this occasion the following activities took place: Gospel Teachings for Children and Youth, with the distribution of cakes, toys and clothing, plus medical consultations. Also a lecture for more than 600 people and a Meeting for Directors. As always on the first Sunday of the month, the ladies of the Heliosophicas Guatemalteca held a Coffee-Lecture in Guatemalteca City, attended by people from various religions. Dr. Edwin Genaro Bravo (Coordinator for Central America and the Caribbean) will be organising the

distribution of Spiritist books for Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala and Mexico during the next months. Edwin Bravo - [email protected]

THE EUROPEAN COORDINATION DEPARTMENT

The last trimester meeting was marked by various general and internal events such as the General Meeting of the ISC, which took place at the headquarters of the Spiritist Association of Leira, Portugal from 3rd-5th October, with the presence of Representatives from 17 countries, under the Presidency of Maria Moraes, from Holland. The logistics of the event were impeccable and permitted the participants to become aware of the quality of activities being held by the Portuguese Spiritist Movement. The conference held on the Friday evening, given by Cesar Perri, filled the auditorium of the headquarters of the Spiritist Association of Leira with more than 400 people. Various participants were also able to visit the headquarters of the Portuguese Spiritist Federation

and other Spiritist Groups within the country. Among other decisions reached was the definitive date for the 8th World Spiritist Congress - 7th to 9th October 2016, in Lisbon, Portugal. Central theme "In Defence of Life", with enrolment already open at www.8cem.com. The participants also paid homage to our dearly loved brother Nestor Masotti, who had returned to the spiritual Homeland on 3rd September. Events in the Area of Education and the Family of ISC Europe. During the meeting in Leira, the ISC declared that 2015 should be the year dedicated to the Family, Infancy and Youth.

During this trimester Europe was marked by a cycle of Congresses and Lectures given by the Doctors of AME, in various countries on the continent. These events are increasingly reaching their objective of changing the paradigm in medicine by adding the spiritual dimension of

the human being.

But despite this, the present situation in the world and within the Spiritist Movement itself is complex due to its increasing dissemination. This requires a lot of work and vigilance from the Spiritist workers.

The conflicts in the world today are many and have as their base "the biggest obstacles to progress" which are "pride and selfishness" (SB, 785). There is great need for a vibrant appeal to politicians and religious people to accept a solid and strong endeavour to prevent and stop all conflicts. In reply to question 932 in THE SPIRITS' BOOK, the Spirits taking part in the Codification stated: "Why is it that in this world so often the influence of those who are bad dominate those who are good?" thus clearly indicating that it is "because of the weakness of those who are good. Bad people are schemers and audacious, good people are timid. But when the good ones chose they can predominate." Religious Movements do not escape this rule. Amongst their leaders there are not only "good people" but also "bad people", due to the imperfection that still characterises human beings.

Just as we have been counselled by Allan Kardec and the Spiritist Spirits, all Spiritist Directors should make the effort to show an example of the Moral basis of the Spiritist Teachings, serving the Cause by being anonymously selfless, without personalism and without trying to force their points of view within the institutions they direct. Charity demands "benevolence towards one and all, indulgence for the imperfections of others and forgiveness of offences" (SB, 886) and without it union and unification will not be possible within the Movement. Here is a motive to intensify even more the dissemination of The Gospel According to Spiritism, that has inaugurated the epoch of "rationalised faith that is now commemorating its 150 years of publication.

THE FRENCH SPIRITIST COUNCIL

The annual symposium, organised by the French Spiritist Council, was held on 27th and 28th September In Villeneuve-d'Ascq. More than 130 French Spiritists gathered together during that weekend. The theme chosen was "Activities within Centres" which had as its objective showing the diversity of the French Movement, permitting that each person can discover specialities of other Groups, thus demonstrating the potentiality for action and research within our Teachings. Participation of the Groups from Dunkerque, Cambral, Doual, Wattrelos, Hem and Bruay La Buissiere. The various talks reflected the richness of Spiritism in these regions: Francis Delattre presented a reflection on the process of learning about Spiritism, while Mauricette Ruchot spoke to us of the help offered by her Group to people who are in mourning. We could also appreciate the mediumistic work of the Wattrelos Group presented by Brigitte Plouy, Evelyne Pareit and Stephane Allaeys. Not forgetting the presentation that was very interesting, given by Jean-Jacques Dubois, about the painting medium Augustin Lesage, a personage from the region whose works we went to see in the museum at Villeneuve-d'Ascq, very near to the place where the symposium was held. The Parisians were also present and they presented us with a variety of lectures. Anita Becquerel (from APES) and Claudia Bonmartin (from CESAK) talked about the organisation now in their respective Centres that they have created, based on their experiences, as well as about the development of the Groups over the years. Joël Ury spoke with emotion about the work of IFRES on transcommunication and especially about those works based upon filmed sequences, as well as perspectives for the future thanks to technological progress. We could also appreciate the incredible work done by ASITA that, with Fatima Medjahed, work together with those who are sleeping on the streets, giving us an example of how to practice Spiritist charity on the ground. Richard Buono, through the Group GAMUA from Nice, spoke of the importance of working to help suffering Spirits, since this is the theme being dealt with in an awareness campaign by the CSF during 2014-2015. The CSLAK from Lyon, represented by Gilles Fernandez, spoke about dissemination, study and mediumship. Jean-Paul Evrard reminded us of the importance of our work within the Centres, and its impact towards awakening consciences and the construction of a better world.

In sharing the same objective, Claudia Werdine - Coordinator for the "European Commission for the Education of Children, Youth and the Family" made us aware of the importance and the possibilities of developing activities destined for this public presented in the project called "Seeds for the Future". This symposium met all the expectations for a re-approximation and its success confirmed the need to unite around our Spiritist Teachings in order to share and learn from each other and advance forward together. The Francophonic Spiritist Movement received AME-International for the seventh time on 18th & 19th October in Lyon, France, for the realisation of the Congress on Medicine and Spirituality. More than 100 participants were present at this event, opened by the President of AME-International, Dr. Marlene Nobre, with the theme "Integrating Medicine with Spirituality". Participating Doctors from AME were: Jorge Daher Jr., Giancarlo Lucchetti, Alessandra L. G. Lucchetti and Décio Landoli Jr. The Europeans who presented themes linked to spirituality were Olfa Mandhouj from the André-Mignot Hospital in Paris; Gerhard Gmel, from the University Hospital at Lausanne, Switzerland; Miguel Farias from the Coventry University, England and the Psychologist Lucy Velasco Gonzalez from Tours, France. 1st Festival of Spiritist Films organised by

L'Association du Chemin from Lyon, was held on 28th & 29th November 2014. Talks by Richard Buono: President of CSF (French Spiritist Council), Gilles Fernadez: President of the Allan Kardec Centre, Bron, Charles Kempf: General Secretary of ISC, Catherine Perinnet: Vice President of the Allan Kardec Centre, Bron, Cyrille Romero:

President of the Association du Chemin in Grezieu la Varenne, Gérard Tremerel, the CFS Secretary, President of the Spiritist Study Centre of Denicé.

Others wanting to share and gain knowledge about the invisible world. But most especially the great majority were wanting to experience the very fraternal ambient existing during these three days of Congress. The event had the participation of both national and international speakers: Divaldo Franco and Carlos Campetti (Brazil), Juan Miguel Fernandez, Janaina Minelli, Miguel Vera, Alfred Tabueña, Alfredo Alonso and Olga Ortiz (Spain). Apart from this, the medium and speaker Divaldo Franco gave various lectures in different Spanish cities, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Múrcia. While this was going on, Carlos Campetti also visited various towns to offer training and give informative lectures. During the National Congress, the 10th edition of the SPIRITIST MAGAZINE of FEE was presented, dedicated to the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of The Gospel According to Spiritism and the book "What is Spiritism" by Allan Kardec was launched, in a good quality economical edition for only 1.5 €., very useful for dissemination.

SPIRITIST MOVEMENT IN JAPAN

Adalberto Morais, from the Committee for the Organisation for the Spiritist Movement in Japan, is

meeting with the ISC via Skype to send out vibrations for the World Spiritist Movement. On 18th October the 3rd Spiritist Symposium took place in Japan, in the province of Gifu-Ken, Japan. This gathering helped to define the targets for the integration and future unification of Spiritist Centres

in Japan, whose Spiritist Movement has completed almost 20years and is now seeking to unify the Spiritist Centres set up in various provinces. Some of the guidelines in this area were decided during the 3rd Spiritist Symposium held on 18th November, organised by the Christian Spiritist Centre of Japan (NEC-J), in Toki-Shi, a province of Gifu-ken. Adalberto Prado Morais, President of the Association of Japanese Spiritist Promoters (ADE Japan) and the General Coordinator of CIMEJ, said that there are several projects under discussion, including the legal registration of Spiritism in Japan. The leader of the NEC-J, Luiz Carlos Okabayashi, said it has been tried before, however, the obstacle was the need to translate the basic works of Spiritism, such as "The Spirits' Book", "The Mediums' Book", "Genesis" and "Heaven and Hell". Only the 'Gospel According to Spiritism' has been translated. But it is necessary to have them all

translated into Japanese before we can submit them to the authorities", said Luiz Carlos. Adalberto explained that the translation of the works by Allan Kardec are now out of copyright. The CIMEJ Commission for the Integration of Japan's Spiritist Movement will decide how to proceed in this and other aspects. The representative of ADA Japan reported that a characteristic of the Spiritist Movement in Japan is that Spiritism should be directed towards the Japanese people. "We are working as pioneers, opening pathways and now we must be very closely knit for the unification of the Spiritist Movement in Japan. "Today we have the contact details of 13 catalogued Spiritist Centres, but we know there must be more than 20". In the religious aspect, Davis Silva, from NEC-J, spoke on the theme "Jesus, the Family and the Gospel". The next meeting of Spiritist Directors will be in January 2015.

GEEAK-LUXEMBOURG

It was with immerse honour and gratitude that on 15th November last, here in Luxembourg, we received Dr. Marlene Nobre (President of AME-International and AME-Brazil), Dr. Fernando Souza, founder and President of AME-Cariri in Pernambuco, Brazil), Dr. Marcia Regina C. Salgado and Dr. Irvenia Di S. Prada for our 5th Symposium on Medicine & Spirituality. Current topics such as the physical, mental and spiritual health of mankind for the third millennium; problems such as the attention deficit disorder and behaviour of children and adolescents; pain as the pathway to regeneration and the role of the elderly in balance within the family and social harmony were addressed in our symposium in the presence of 102 listeners. It was with great affection, that these doctors of body and soul, messengers from Jesus, after a long tour in France, Belgium, Austria, England, Holland, Portugal and Germany came to bless us with their studies. They brought us examples of joy, courage, faith and determination, that we should take as an example to all those who desire to serve God and take the message of the Comforter all around our planet Earth. Our sincere thanks to the Spiritist friends who came from Grenoble, Saint Louis and Rennes - France, Liege - Brussels, Namur, Libramont – Belgium, Mannheim, Cologne, Saarbrucken – Germany. This event would not have been possible without the permission of our Master and beloved Jesus, our spiritual friends and all those who contributed in one way or another to the organisation of this event. May God bless you all, now and forever!

SPIRITIST MOVEMENT IN NORWAY

On 29th & 30th November the 4th Gathering of Norwegian Spiritist Groups (EGEN) took place in Oslo. This bilingual event, had an audience of 39 people, amongst which many were Norwegian. "Disseminating Spiritist Teachings" was the central theme of the meeting, which was attended by Pekka Kaarakainen, who had come from Finland, invited to share his experiences with the group of Norwegians. In this programme, for the first time in many decades, a Norwegian gave a talk about the challenges of spreading Spiritist Teachings in this country.

After the meeting the Groups, with the exception of the companions from Den Norske Spiritistiske Studentforening (Denossfor) who could not attend, met to review the event and make resolutions for the coming year. The 'Spiritist Group Euripides Barsanulfo' from Bergen, will host the next EGEN. 2 - The "Trondheim Spiritistiske Förening '(previously called Spiritist Group Chico Xavier) will be in charge of making contact with the ISC throughout 2015. Not being official members of the ISC, the Norwegian Groups decided to be in contact with the ISC in turns by choosing a different Group every year, thus giving everyone the opportunity for enrichment that comes from a relationship with this Institution. 3 - In September, the Group Meimei of GEEAK began the 'Gospel Teachings for Babies', a Spiritist Education work aimed at children up to 2 years old. The precepts of the Spiritist Teachings can - and should - start early, as it is in childhood that the Spirit is more receptive to the learning process. Of course the activities have to fit the age group of the children, who at that stage pride themselves on their sensor motor skills. Therefore, the first module is about "God, the Father Creator", and we started our first meeting working about water, through a sensory exploration of the "storytelling carpet", different water temperatures and about music that explores the theme. Besides the content, being the Gospel Teachings – by means of vibrancy and communication with the child – results in the bonding between mother/father and the baby, so contributing to the harmonious reception of the Spirit during its reincarnatory process. The Gospel Teachings for babies at the moment is for 2 babies and a third one on the way.

ALLAN KARDECIN OPIN YSTÄVÄT

The Allan Kardecin Opin Ystävät held the launch of the book Heaven and Hell on 4th July 2014. The launch was held at the largest Esoteric Fair in Finland, in the city of Kuortane. At the time, there were two lectures according to Spiritism. "What we find in the beyond," based on the book "Heaven and Hell" and "The help we receive from the spirit world to follow as guidelines for life", based on The Gospel According to Spiritism. Our great collaborator and friend, Charles Kempf, once more brought us much joy with his talk and also participated in conversations clarifying questions from members of the association in Helsinki and Vääksy, with his care and goodwill as always. The first lecture held in Helsinki, on 2nd August 2014, had as its theme: "The ethical basis of

Spiritism" and the second lecture at the association's headquarters in the city of Vääksy, on 4th August 2014, was about reincarnation. Pekka Kaarakainen lectured in Spiritualist Associations in Tampere, on 14th September 2014, once again taking the book "Heaven and Hell" as the main theme in the ongoing work of dissemination and in Helsinki on 22nd October 2014, elucidated everyone on the theme "Allan Kardec and his work of Codification". On 29th & 30th Dec. 2014 Pekka attended the meeting of EGEN in Oslo, Norway. The support continues for the three weekly study groups, as well as for published articles, translation of books, music and Spiritists messages are all activities performed daily with gratitude and joy. In the monthly public lectures studies are promoted about the Gospel and Spiritist Healing. In the last lecture of the year, held on 7th December 2014, the theme was "Jesus", followed by a fraternal celebration with various Christmas songs and food, closing the year with gratitude for all the work done in 2014.
