NJT’s Theatre KochavimAnansi and the Moss Covered Rock K-2nd gradeBy Ron Fink and John HeathBased on a West African tale, Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock is the story of a very tricky spider that discovers a magic rock. The last laugh is on Anansi, of course, but not before everyone has a chance to sing some fun songs about yams, dancing mangos and Anansi’s mischief. This trickster folk tale is the perfect way to introduce your child to musical theatre in a fun and educational way. Rehearsal times subject to change as play approaches. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, the narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton’s challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care. Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, but ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

NJT 2014-15 Season

BECOMING DR. RUTHby Mark St. Germain12/4-12/21Everything you never knew about what made this 4’7” dynamo the powerhouse she is today as a world famous sex therapist. A life-affirming story.

IMAGINING MADOFFby Deb Margolin1/22-2/8This is an imagined all-night study session between Ponzi schemer Bernie Madoff and Solomon Galkin, a poet and a wise and righteous man. A high stakes moral showdown ensues as they banter about a myriad of subjects.

SIGHT UNSEENby Donald Margulies3/12-3/29Jonathan Waxman, a Brooklyn Jew, has become a critically acclaimed artist whose works are bought by collectors “sight unseen.” During a London retrospective of his work, he visits his former model and lover as they address the tangled relationships of money, art, love and inspiration.

MY MOTHER’S LESBIAN JEWISH WICCAN WEDDING, a musicalDavid Hein & Irene Sankoff5/7-5/31Based on a true story. The take away message is inspiring and life-affirming while being unapologetically political and irreverently funny as it explores, in a most tuneful way, today’s hot topic issue of marriage equality. Couldn’t be more timely.
