Sister Wanda is involved in retreat and spiritual direction ministry. She is a certified teacher of Tai Chi Chih, and has taught others this simple, non- strenuous, flowing form of “Moving Meditation.” Dan is a certified spiritual director. His spiritual formation has been shaped by his stay as a novice of Thomas Merton at Gethsemani Abbey, his nine years as a Jesuit, his two-year Buddhist odyssey in India and 37 years of marriage and family. Marcus Mescher, PhD, is assistant professor of Christian ethics at Xavier University. He specializes in Catholic social teaching, principles of solidarity, preferential option for the poor and care for creation. Marcus is deeply interested in Ignatian spirituality. The Jesuit Spiritual Center has a rich history of offering contemplative retreats. These retreats are based on Buddhist mindful practice and the Christian Contemplative awareness of God’s imminent presence within us, among us and around us. All are welcome as we experience varied methods of contemplation. Our team of facilitators includes Wanda Wetli, CSJ; Dr. Marcus Mescher; Bob Stephan, SJ and Dan Roche. Sr. Wanda offers optional Tai Chi Chih afternoon sessions. Marcus will share two evening presentations on the Good Samaritan. Fr. Bob will preside at Eucharistic liturgies. Meditation periods and instructions on contemplative prayer practice are coordinated by Dan. This year’s theme on Jesus’ parable of the Good Samaritan is a timely reminder of the Bible’s exhortation to “welcome the stranger in our midst” and to ponder “who is my neighbor?” The Jesuit Spiritual Center is located on a 37-acre campus overlooking the Little Miami River, a nationally designated scenic river. The Center has hosted group and individual retreats since 1929. Each day of this silent retreat includes: • Four sitting/walking meditation periods • Group presentations • Individual interviews (optional) • Tai chi chih (optional) • Liturgies • Rest periods Massage will be available for an additional fee. We encourage comfortable clothing. Sitting benches and cushions are provided. Vegetarian options are available. The Contemplative Retreat will be held in the Loyola Building beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, July 21, and concluding with lunch Wednesday, July 26. The fee is $375 for a 5-night stay and meals.
