To survive middle school, until you get comfortable, if not yet comfortable, you need to be YOU! Be the person you were born to be. No matter how much you think you don't fit in, stay you. Be unique and stand out. You want people to remember you as the real person you really are. As I learned in Leadership Camp last summer, “You are free to be me, as you are free to be you.’’ That means to be whoever you are and it won't cost you anything. You are made that way for a reason. Just know that there are people in the world that love you the way you are, even with all of your imperfections too. Don't be afraid of standing. That is my key advice. Have a great school year!

Introducing the

2015 -2016 Student Council

By Camilla Boyd

This article about student council will give you some updates about what student council has achieved already and some future plans. On the first day of Bradley Central Student Council meeting we introduced our officers to our new council that is full of 34 student leaders. In other meetings we had discussed our state project this year which is the Scarecrow Project. For the Scarecrow Project we got to design a scarecrow to represent our council. It was put on the fence at Perry Farm. Have you seen it yet? “Leadership Luigi” won first place in the school/youth category giving our Student Council $100! We as a council decided to go with our state theme and dress the scarecrow up as a chef because our theme is Stir Up Some Leadership if you didn't know. We also talked about our first dance at the first meeting. It was a “Back to School” theme. Every month or so we get to go to the nursing homes to help with the elderly and entertain them too. We do this in order to give back to our community. We discuss groups for our nursing home visits. So these are some of the updates on student council since the council started September 8, 2015.

National News

By: Jaxon Buck Ahmed Mohamed, a Muslim American student at MacArthur High School in Irving, Texas, was arrested at his school Monday September 14. Ahmed, being part of the robotics club, had built a digital clock over the weekend. He showed it to one teacher who was impressed, but advised him to keep the clock in his bookbag. Later in his English class the clock started beeping in his bag. Ahmed took the clock out and explained it was just a clock. "I built a clock to impress my teacher but when I showed it to her, she thought it was a threat to her,” Ahmed told reporters last Wednesday. "It was really sad that she took the wrong impression of it." Ahmed was taken into custody that day and interrogated. "They told me I had committed the crime of a hoax bomb, a fake bomb." The freshmen later explained to the WFAA after being released by authorities. Since his release Ahmed has been congratulated by many branches of the science community, and even has been recognized as a role model for many other kids and teens hoping to go into science for careers. Ahmed has even been invited to the White House by President Obama, and to Facebook head-quaters by Mark Zuckerburg.

I had the chance to interview Coach Bright about our Softball team this school year. I asked him some questions, and here are his answers. What do you like about it? “I love softball because it’s a fun game and it’s the ultimate in team games.” How long have you coached? “This is my 10th year.” What is your most successful year? “Seventeen in a row, 2nd year coaching at Donovan, we finished 19-1. We lost in the Regional Championship. What did you most like about this group of girls? “It was a fun group of girls and as a team we showed a ton of progress over the last three years with this group.” “All in all, this was a great group of girls to coach.” Here are the students who made up our softball team this year.

Alex Sample

By Madison Argento

Have you heard of Alex Sample? He is new to Bradley Central this year and here are some facts about him if you don’t know him. His favorite super hero is Batman. DUN NU NU NU NU NU….. BATMAN. His favorite color is orange and he wears it a lot, like every day he wears something with orange. One hobby of his is messing with his cat. He likes to scare her with a clown mask (not nice). His favorite restaurant is Taco Bell. He prefers winter over summer and likes to go ice skating every Friday or Saturday. His favorite singer is Selena Gomez. He prefers cats over dogs, and he has one dog and one cat. His favorite sport is baseball. His eye color is blue. It’s a really pretty blue. He has two siblings, both brothers. One is in High School and the other is in Elementary. He would rather live in the city than the country. He likes music more than books and tiger is his favorite animal print. His favorite shoe brand is Nike. That is very amazing, but expensive. His natural hair color is brown and his favorite clothing brand is Under Armour. He has about three Under Armour jackets (in orange or with orange in them). If you see an average heighth 8th grader walking through the halls in orange or tiger print, say “Hi”. It just might be Alex.

Selfies By Garrett

Metzger

They are everywhere. People take them when they wake up and when they go to bed. They take selfies with friends and even with food. But have they gone too far? It used to be just a fad but now with the invention of the selfie stick, people are offering them as prizes. So my question is Yea or Nea to selfies?

Elder Scrolls IV : Oblivion

By Christian Arthur

Oblivion starts with you in prison. Don’t panic, you get to escape. Oblivion is a game where you have to find the heir to the dead emperor and stop the Deadric (demon) lord. However, there are side missions. There’s one where you make your own magic staff, one where you are an assassin, and one where you go into Paintworld. You’re a character that you get to create. You get to choose a race of elves of dest. majic. The fighting is good, even though it is set in Midevil Times. So, if you have the free time, try this game. You might like it!

By Garrett Metzger  The Giants and Cowboys played

a game on September 13. During the fourth quarter, confusion arose. The quarterback on the Giants’ team told the running back not to score so they could run out the clock. During the play Dallas got the ball, scored, and the Giants lost the games. So I thought to myself, “I think it is okay to disagree or interrupt your fellow players. But is it okay to disagree with your coach?” Mr. Dowdy said “If it is at the NFL level then yes anything lower no.” Mr. Kukuck said “no”. Dylan Arthur said yes though. And finally Dawson McCue said “Maybe. It depends on the situation.” So which side do you agree with?

By  Katie  Mize    Have you ever wanted to create your own country? Have you ever wanted to set your own neighborhood or city laws? Roy Bates, founder of Sealand, did just that! On September 2, 1967 Sealand was founded on an old, abandoned, British fort from WW2. It would not be surprising if you had never heard of it before, though. What is Sealand? Sealand is a micronation, which is a claimed-to-be independent nation that is not yet recognized by the rest of the world. Sealand is not the only micronation, though; Wy, Molassia, Hutt River, Icaria, and Ladonia are also some examples of many other micronations. Molassia, a micronation in America, was founded in a man’s own home near Dayton, Nevada. Crazy, right? Micronations can be found all over the world; Europe, the Middle East, Asia, the Americas, etc. The most well-known micronations are Sealand, Seborga, Hutt River, Talossa, Frestonia, Baldonia, Melchizedek, Minerva, Redonda, and Ladonia.

ENGINEER By Laci Tongue

Most engineers work a minimum of 40 hours per week. However, some deadlines and/or standards require them to work more hours. Some engineers work indoors in office buildings or laboratories; others work outdoors in construction or gas exploration sites. Some jobs require extensive travel to other plants or offices. It is important for engineers to have good creativity and communication skills because they will have to work with fields outside of engineering. It is a complicated job. There are many different types of engineering such as: Computer, Industrial, Nuclear, Architectural, and Mechanical just to name a few. Maybe now you would consider becoming an engineer!
