I believe it is also an expression of our community’s commitment and excitement to join in what God is doing through us and our many neighbors. Adult Spiritual Formation The Sacrament of the Enneagram: an introduction to your sacred self

the Rev. Margaret Waters | February 4 & 11 | 9:15 am | Huffman Hall On February 4, we'll continue discussing

each of the nine types in detail. So if you want to know where you fit in, be sure to make this class or at least listen to it here: http://stmattsaustin.org/Connect/2adult-sunday-school.html

We are exploring the wisdom the Enneagram has to teach us about ourselves and how best to integrate the Enneagram into our spiritual as well as our social lives so that we may increase self-knowledge, spiritual growth, and compassion. Our text, should you choose to read it, will be The Road Back to You by Suzanne Stabile and Ian Morgan Cron. You may get a jumpstart by taking the online test at the website of Ian's podcast, Typology. Submitted by Christian Hawley

Feed My People Experience| Saturday, February 10 | 8:00 am| First United Methodist Life Center (1300 Lavaca) Come experience a “Feed My People” breakfast and learn the impact of this well-established, but little-known, ministry in our community. Feed My People (FMP) is the founding program of Foundation for the Homeless, and is open to anyone experiencing homelessness and poverty. This long-standing free breakfast program is a partnership of 15 religious congrega-tions in the Austin community. Together we provide a filling, hot breakfast along with other limited services for between 250 and 350 individuals every Tuesday and Thursday morning year round. Enjoy a typical FMP breakfast including scrambled eggs, biscuits, sausage patties, gravy, coffee, milk, and orange juice. Doors open at 8:00 am for coffee and fellowship. Break-fast will be served at 8:30 am, followed by a short program. Ticket prices will raise funds to pay for food, disposables, and utility costs to support the FMP breakfast along with FFH programs that prevent homelessness. Tickets are $35 (adults), $5 (children under 12) and can be purchased online at www.foundationhomeless.org. A generous St. Matthew's parishioner has 6 free tickets available on a first-come, first-served basis. Altar Guild Request Ladies, please blot/wipe your lips before taking communion. The lipstick left on the common chalice is wiped with church linens between serving wine to communicants. Lipstick is very difficult to remove from the linens and ultimately can leave a permanent stain. Your assistance is appreciated by your priest and Altar Guild. Submitted by Kate Canby

Support Casa Marianella—Buy (and Read) This Book Casa Marianella is one of the outreach minis-tries St. Matthew’s supports, largely through cooking a meal for the residents every other month and dona-tions. Another way you can help, beginning Tuesday, February 6, is to buy a book. BookPeople is donat-ing 5% of each sale of a new book called The Line Becomes a River, by Francisco Cantú, to Casa Marianella. Cantú’s memoir of his life as a border patrol agent gives insight to the complexity of border issues. I invite you to BookPeople on Monday, February 12, at 7:00 pm. Cantú, a Pushcart Prize winner, will be speak-ing—this will serve as the kick-off to a book study (details to come). A Radical Yes to Small Groups Is Jesus calling you out of your comfort zone to follow your passion and start a small group? Talk to your clergy about training, resources, and support for what you've always wanted to try. There is no better time or place to take a risk. Your St Matt's family loves you, and who knows, you might be precisely the person God needs to share the gospel with bowlers, ukulele players, ferret lovers, or _________ (fill in the blank with what your passion). See the Offshoots article below! Submitted by Christian Hawley

Offshoots Small Groups

Offshoots small groups are a chance for parishioners to share our passions with one another and our neighbor. This initia-tive grows out of the idea that wherever Christians are present, the body of Christ is revealed. So have some fun with these groups, get to know your fellow parishioners, and invite a friend to “come and see” a little glimpse of the Kingdom. If you want to form your own Offshoot with support from church staff and clergy, email [email protected] and [email protected]. Formation of groups is a rolling process throughout the year, so keep your ideas coming!
