PRAY FOR THE SICK
IN OUR PARISH: Chase Van Sickle, Anthony
Schmidt, Thomas Hill, Miguel Herrera,
Christy Cox
Father of goodness and love, hear
our prayers for the sick members of
our community and for all who are in
need. Amid mental and physical suf-
fering may they find consolation in
your healing presence. Show your
mercy as you close wounds, cure
illness, make broken bodies whole
and free downcast spirits. May these
special people find lasting health and
deliverance, and so join us in thank-
ing you for all your gifts. We ask this
through the Lord Jesus who healed
those who believed. Amen.
Thank you to all the new parishion-
ers who have stepped up to train as
projectionists. We still need one
more person for our 12:15 mass.
It’s very easy and you would be a
great help. Please contact MaryAnn
Spicer at 935-5306 or
[email protected] for information.
Total Church Support 1/31/16 $24,454 ( Plate Collection $17,576 + Online Giving $6,878) St V de Paul $16,700
St. Anne Library will host a presen-
tation on Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 1
pm entitled “Confession: The heal-
ing power of forgiveness” by Fr.
George DaRoza. Refreshments will
be served. Parish Center 1600
Rossmoor Parkway, Walnut Creek.
Girl Scout Cookie Sales - Our CTK
troops will be selling everyone’s fa-
vorite cookies at all masses this
weekend. You can also donate boxes
to our military or food bank. If you
would like to support our Troops, but
don’t catch us at mass, call Pam Jo-
hansen at 925-349-4145 and she will
connect you to a Girl Scout. Thank
you for your continued support!
Lenten Scripture Study- Join Fr.
Paulson as he leads a discussion
based on the passion, crucifixion
and death of Jesus. Wednesday
mornings, 8:45 - 10:00 am in the
ministry center chapel beginning
February 10th and continuing for
six weeks. Plan to join us.
Winter Nights Signups Go Live For
Lent! CTK will be hosting Winter
Nights again this year from Monday,
March 28th to Monday, April 11th.
The sign up sheet to volunteer or do-
nate food will be live on our website
from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sun-
day. On Palm Sunday weekend, all
items we are still in need of will be
available to sign up for outside of
mass. If your ministry is interested in
hosting a dinner or activity, contact
Kate at [email protected].
We are especially looking for a few
strong backs to help load and unload
the trucks on Monday, 3/28.
Help us break
last year’s rice
bowl collection!
CRS rice bowl
program is a fun
and practical
way to turn your
Lenten sacrifice
into real help for people in need.
25% of the money raised goes to
local organizations, mostly StVdP
conferences, who help alleviate
hunger in our Diocese. The rest
supports Catholic Relief Services
abroad. Last year Oakland Diocese
raised $217,000 and CTK turned in
$7,464.67, mostly thanks to our
school and RE programs. This year
as a parish, our goal is $8000.00.
To raise that we need everyone to
participate. Pick up your Lenten
bowls in the vestibule starting Ash
Wednesday!
Healing Mass ~
Anointing of the
Sick Saturday
February 13 10:30
am
“Is anyone among you sick? He
should summon the presbyters of the
Church and they should pray over him
and anoint him with oil in the name of
the Lord (James 5:14)
All are welcome to join us for a parish
Mass and celebration of the Sacra-
ment of the Anointing of the Sick.
Since Vatican II our understanding of
this sacrament has developed and
deepened. Formerly known as Ex-
treme Unction, this sacrament is no
longer just for the dying but for the
elderly and those who are ill (whether
it be physical, emotional, psychologi-
cal, etc. ). The Anointing of the Sick
offers God’s grace to strengthen the
individual.
Bring relatives and friends from local
convalescent homes - those who are
able to come. Greeters will be present
to assist the elderly. The Anointing
of the Sick is meant to be celebrated
within the community - with family
and friends.
Celebrating Scout Sunday: The
scouting program at CTK Parish is
more than just an activity for our
youth to learn about the outdoors.
Scouting provides fun, fellowship,
and training to our youth as well as
those in our community. It emphasiz-
es honesty, self-reliance and respect to
build character, citizenship and per-
sonal fitness. Today we celebrate the
anniversary of the scouting program.
It’s not too late to help plan our
upcoming CTK Parish Festival! Join the CTK Festival Planning
Committee at our next meeting,
Tuesday, February 9 at 7:00 pm in
the 6th grade classroom. Now is a
great time to get involved in plan-
ning this terrific community event.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Lent, the Church’s annual pre-baptismal retreat,
prepares us to gather around the Easter font, renew our
baptismal vows, and receive new life from the water as
the elect are plunged into Christ’s death and resurrection.
This core meaning is more or less available, depending
on whether we journey with catechumens in the parish
and on the vigor of our liturgical celebration of the Tridu-
um. Some persist in seeing Lent as a lonely journey in the
wilderness; yet this week we enter the Lenten fast in soli-
darity with one another. The smudged foreheads you will
spy throughout Ash Wednesday on buses, street corners,
and supermarket aisles remind you that you are hardly
alone in your desire to enact a spring cleaning regime for
your spiritual life.
Long ago, this kind of repentance was available
to Christians only once. Ashes and sackcloth were not
raiment for a day, but permanent habits for public sin-
ners. Fasting became a way of life, and if they sinned se-
verely again, there was no hope of restored communion.
Happily, this system did not endure. It produced reluctant
Christians who even held back from baptism, like St. Au-
gustine did, out of fear. Today we have recovered an an-
cient tradition that conversion and repentance are con-
stant themes on life’s journey, and that Lent is an annual
opportunity to revive our baptismal identity, both as indi-
viduals and communities.
