From the Pastor’s Desk

If you are looking for a new saint to meet, take some time to investigate the life of Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati, whose Feast Day is July 8. He was an Italian who lived a remarkable life in the early 1900’s. Blessed Pier Giorgio took Jesus’ promise seriously: “I came that you might have life, life in abundance.” Though he only lived to be 24 years old, this saintly man had a tremendous zeal for life. He is captured in photos on top of mountains with a full smile! Yet Pier Giorgio knew that truly living also meant truly loving. He dedicated an incredible amount of time and energy to caring for the poor of Turin, the northern Italian city where he lived. It would be good to learn more about this inspiring young man who teaches us that following the Lord brings us greater vitality and joy. Speaking of saints, the second installment of our summer movie series is this Friday, and we will be watching “Paul: Apostle of Christ,” which just came out in theaters in March 2018. Saint Paul is not the only Biblical character portrayed in the film. Saint Luke, the Gospel writer and physician, also plays a prominent role. On a number of occasions he visits Saint Paul who is in prison in first century Rome where the Church is being mercilessly persecuted. It is fascinating to consider the spiritual and psychological pressure Christians faced at that point in Church history. In my opinion, one of the strengths of the film is its ability to encourage modern day Christians in their commitment to the Lord. I hope you can join us for the viewing. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

You are invited to join us for the second film of our summer movie series with Father Schalk. Join us this Friday, July 13, at

7:00 p.m. for “Paul, Apostle of Christ.” The film tells the story of Saint Paul’s time in prison in Rome and the struggles of Christians who were persecuted for their faith in the ancient world. At the end of the movie we will have a short discussion about how this movie is relevant to our spiritual lives. Snacks will be provided by parish council for your enjoyment. Note: the film is rated PG-13 and is not suitable for young children. (This event is in English.) News from the Knights of Columbus: We are having our next blood

drive next Sunday, July 15, from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. (This event is bilingual.) The Parish Picnic is right around the corner: Sunday, July 22. We

will again be selling a newly designed T-shirt this weekend. Order forms are available at the Picnic Table in the vestibule. You may put the completed form with payment in an envelope marked “Tee Shirt Order” in the church basket. All orders must be submitted by noon on Monday, July 9. Volunteer sign ups also begin this weekend. Tee shirt distribution will be the weekend of July 14-15. Si usted está buscando conocer un nuevo Santo, tómese un tiempo para investigar la vida del Beato Pier Giorgio Frassati, cuyo día de fiesta es el 8 de julio. Era un italiano que vivió una vida notable a principios de 1900. El bendito Pier Giorgio tomó en serio la promesa de Jesús: "Vine para que pudieras tener vida, vida en abundancia". Aunque sólo vivió hasta los 24 años de edad, este santo hombre tenía un tremendo celo de vida. Él fue fotografiado en la cima de las montañas con una sonrisa completa! Sin embargo Pier Giorgio sabía que realmente vivir también significaba amar verdaderamente. Dedicó una cantidad increíble de tiempo y energía a cuidar a los pobres de Turín, la ciudad italiana del Norte donde vivía. Es fascinante considerar la presión espiritual y psicológica que los cristianos enfrentaron en ese momento en la historia de la iglesia. anniversary by reading the original encyclical viewing videos of couples’ HV w stories, or recording your own HV story at www.celebratehv50.com/. (This event is in English.) The St. Charles Robotics Team will hold four summer camps at the school related to the subjects of technology and robotics. LEGO® Robotics Camp will teach students how to build,

design, program and operate a robot. Java® I Programming Camp will introduce the concepts of object-oriented programming. Basic Programming Camp will teach the concepts of basic programming using two-dimensional games. Java® II Programming Camp will teach more advanced options within the Java programming language. Build-A-Bot Camp will allow the students to design, build, program and operate larger scale computers. The LEGO® and Java I® camps will

be held the week of July 16, while the remaining classes will be held the week of July 26.
