From the Pastor’s Desk

This weekend, we celebrate World Mission Sunday, a day in which to offer prayers for the missionary efforts of the Church. We also have the opportunity to offer financial assistance to Catholic missions around the world. Funds collected help newly formed dioceses in third world countries pay for catechetical programs, seminaries, transportation needs, and the building of churches, orphanages, and schools. Our donations to the missions this weekend (using our World Mission Sunday envelopes!) help the Church grow. Let’s keep in mind that October is Respect Life Month, a time to reemphasize our belief that all life is sacred. Each human being is an unrepeatable gift from God, and we are committed to nurturing and protecting human life as such. In this spirit, we are supporting the work of Women’s Care Center with our baby bottle campaign. Thank you for filling those bottles with your spare change throughout Respect Life Month. The Knights of Columbus will collect them after Mass the next two weekends, or you can return your bottle to the office at any time. October is also Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This theme corresponds to our Pro-Life focus during this time of year. Domestic violence – both physical and verbal – occurs when we forget our own dignity and the dignity of others. Such behavior should have no place in our society, least of all in our homes. Please call the police if you or someone you know is a victim of this crime. Finally, October has been a busy month for the BREAD Organization. Thanks to all of our parishioners who have participated in house meetings. The primary purpose of these meetings was to surface the problems that individuals and families are facing in our communities. Research, planning, and proposing solutions to city officials will be our work over the course of the next several months. Christ the King collaborates with approximately fifty other congregations in this effort as we work to make Columbus a more just city.

The Sisters’ Corner

The Missionary Servants of the Word will celebrate the Feast of Christ the Missionary next Saturday, October 24. They will host a retreat, which will include a moving drama, uplifting prayer, and enjoyable activities for the entire family. Join us in the school gym from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and allow Christ the Missionary to touch your heart and strengthen your family. (This event is in Spanish.) The sisters will also offer a retreat for children ages 7 to 13 on Saturday, October 31, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This will be an opportunity for our young people to learn more about their faith and enjoy time with the sisters. Este fin de semana celebramos el Domingo Mundial de las Misiones, un día en el que ofrecemos oraciones por los esfuerzos misioneros de la Iglesia. AUNT HATTIE’S LUNCHEON

Christ the King Women’s Club invites all to attend Aunt Hattie’s Luncheon on Sunday, November 15, 2015,

with salad bar at 11:30 and buffet lunch at noon. Families are invited. Tickets are being sold in the

vestibule after Mass (before the Spanish Masses) from 10/24 through 11/8. The price is $16 for adults

and $9 for children. No luncheon tickets will be sold at the door. Doors will open at 9:00 a.m. for chances

on a large raffle and assorted raffle baskets. The large raffle consists of $400 in assorted merchant gift

cards, a handmade Christmas quilt, and a picnic pack with wine and gift card. No luncheon tickets are

necessary to view and purchase these chances.

The event takes place in the All Saints Academy Gym. It is a long-standing tradition, which benefits parish

charities and services. Please consider filling a basket to be raffled, or donate a gift card or baked goods.

Baked goods will be accepted on 11/13 or 11/14. Raffle baskets or small items to use as door prizes can

be brought to the vestibule any weekend through 11/8, to the parish office, or to the gym between 6-8

p.m. on Friday 11/13 or Saturday 11/14 between 9:00 a.m. and noon.

Tickets for the large raffle are in the bulletin today. Your purchased tickets and money may be placed in

an envelope marked “Women’s Club” and placed in the collection basket, or returned to the parish office,

or brought to the event on 11/15.

This event not only gives us an opportunity to have fun and build parish spirit, it provides funds for good

causes, including Christmas dinner for Giving Tree recipients and assistance to the Bishop Griffin Center.

We hope you will plan to join us for good food and fellowship.

ALMUERZO TIA HATTIE

El Club de Mujeres de Christ the King les invita al almuerzo Tia Hattie el sábado 15 de noviembre de 2015,

con barra de ensaladas a las 11:30 a.m. y buffet a las 12:00 p.m. Todas las familias están invitadas. Los

boletos se están vendiendo en el vestíbulo después de Misa (antes de las misas de español) desde el 24

de octubre hasta el 8 de noviembre. El precio es de $16 para adultos y $9 para niños. No habrá venta de

boletos para el desayuno en las puertas ese día. Las puertas abren a las 9:00 a.m. para dar la oportunidad

de ganar una de las muchas rifas. La rifa grande es de $400, divididos en diferentes tarjetas de regalo,

costuras de navidad hechas a mano, y un paquete para picnic con vino y tarjeta de regalo. No se requiere

boleto de almuerzo para comprar boletos para las rifas.

El evento se llevará a cabo en el gimnasio de la escuela All Saints Academy, y es una tradición de hace

varios años, que beneficia a las caridades y servicios de la parroquia. Por favor consideren llenar una

canasta para rifarla, o donar tarjetas de regalo, o panecillos horneados. Los bocadillos horneados se

estarán aceptando el 13 y 14 de noviembre. Las canastas para rifa, o pequeños artículos para premios de

entrada se pueden traer al vestíbulo cualquier fin de semana hasta el 8 de noviembre, a la oficina de la

parroquia, o al gimnasio entre las 6:00 y 8:00 p.m. el viernes 13, o el sábado 14 entre las 9:00 a.m. y el

mediodía.

Este evento no solo da la oportunidad de divertirse y construir un espíritu parroquial, sino que
