Rediscover Reconnect Recommit

The Gloria Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.

We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly

King, O God almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only-begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take

away the sins of the world, have mercy on us. You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer. You are seated at

the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the

Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD First Reading: Isaiah 35:4-7a

Thus says the LORD:

Say to those whose hearts are frightened: Be strong, fear not!

Here is your God, he comes with vindication;

with divine recompense he comes to save you.

Then will the eyes of the blind be opened,

the ears of the deaf be cleared;

then will the lame leap like a stag,

then the tongue of the mute will sing.

Streams will burst forth in the desert, and rivers in the steppe.

The burning sands will become pools,

and the thirsty ground, springs of water.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Responsorial: Psalm 146

Praise the Lord, my soul!

Second Reading: James 2:1-5

My brothers and sisters, show no partiality as you adhere to the faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. For if a man with gold rings and fine clothes comes into your assembly, and a poor person in shabby clothes also comes in, and you pay attention to the one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Sit here, please, ” while you say to the poor one, “Stand there, ” or “Sit at my feet, ” have you not made distinctions among yourselves and become judges with evil designs?

Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters. Did not God choose those who are poor in the world to be rich in faith and heirs of

the kingdom that he promised to those who love him?

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Healing River of the Spirit

1. Healing river of the Spirit, bathe the wounds that living brings. Plunge our pain, our sin, our sadness deep beneath your sacred springs.

Weary from the restless searching that has lured us from your side, We discover in your presence peace the world cannot provide.

2. Well-spring of the healing Spirit, stream that flows to bring release, As we gain ourselves, our senses, may our lives reflect your peace.

Grateful for the flood that heals us, may your church enact your grace. As we meet both friend and stranger, may we see our Savior’s face.

3. Living stream that heals the nations, make us channels of your pow’r. All the world is torn by conflict; wars are raging at this hour.

Saving Spirit, move among us, guide our winding human course, Till we find our way together, flowing homeward to our Source.

Profession of Faith - The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

[Bow] and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 7:31-37

Again Jesus left the district of Tyre and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, into the district of the Decapolis. And

people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment and begged him to lay his hand on him. He took him off

by himself away from the crowd. He put his finger into the man’s ears and, spitting, touched his tongue; then he looked up

to heaven and groaned, and said to him, “Ephphatha!”— that is, “Be opened!” — And immediately the man’s ears were

opened, his speech impediment was removed, and he spoke plainly. He ordered them not to tell anyone. But the more he

ordered them not to, the more they proclaimed it.

They were exceedingly astonished and they said, “He has done all things well. He makes the deaf hear and the mute

speak.”

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

Amazing Grace NEW BRITAIN

1. Amazing grace! How sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me! I once was lost, but now am found, was blind but now I see.

2. ‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed! (To optional refrain)

3. The Lord has promised good to me, his word my hope secures; He will my shield and portion be as long as life endures.

4. Through many dangers, toils and snares, I have already come; ‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far, and grace will lead me home.

5. When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we’d first begun. (To optional refrain)

Optional Refrain

My chains are gone, I’ve been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me. And like a flood, his mercy reigns, unending love, amazing grace.

Optional Final Verse

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow, the sun forbear to shine, But God, who called me here below, will be forever mine.

Heavenly Father,

our hearts are open to you

as we discover the mystery of your love

at work in our lives.

Help us to rediscover each day

the power of that same love

through the sacred gift of our Catholic faith.

Jesus our Lord,

in baptism we connect our lives with you

as disciples.

Help us to reconnect each day

and allow our faith life

to be nourished by your Word and Sacrament

through the prayer

of our weekly attendance at Mass.

Holy Spirit,

breathe into us faith, hope and love

as we commit ourselves

to a new and bold Pentecost.

Help us to recommit each day

through our energy and resources

to the life of our parish community.

Give us the grace

to rediscover,

SAINT FRANCIS CHURCH

Dear Parishioners,

Labor Day honors work and workers. Men

and women labor by the sweat of their brow and

the ache of their back in giving themselves over to

the task of helping to build the world and

participate in the creative act of God. It is right

that honor and recognition be given to such a

dignified purpose. But it isn't just brawn and brain

that are honored in the essential act of work. There

is also a spiritual dimension.

Saint Paul expresses himself in a most

admirable way when writing to the Thessalonian

community: “We give thanks to God always for

all of you, remembering you in our prayers,

unceasingly calling to mind your work of faith

and labor of love and endurance in hope . . .” (1

Thessalonians 1: 2-3). Note the connection of

faith, hope and love with work, labor and

endurance. These three virtues don't just happen.

They grow and are strengthened in the challenges

of life in and through a commitment to work, labor

and endurance. That is required.

Many of us who are part of Christ the King

Parish are still actively engaged in the work-force.

Others have stepped away and now enjoy

retirement. Still, whether we are hands-on or hands

-off, the work of faith, the labor of love and the

endurance in hope are what sustain us along the

journey that is intended to lead us to God.

I hope you will make it part of your Labor

Day plans to gather for the celebration of Mass on

Monday morning, September 6TH, at 10:00 o'clock

in Saint Edward Church in Blawnox. We pray that

God will: “Prosper the work of our hands for

us; prosper the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:

17).

A letter

was recently sent via email or the postal service to

the 40 men and women who serve the churches of

our parish. It provides information about

scheduling, which will be done by Marilyn Welsh,

one of the Administrative Assistants for Christ the

King Parish. All Lectors are invited to consider

expanding their ministry to the six churches of our

parish or to express their preference for exercising

their ministry at a particular church and Mass time.

Parishioners with strong public reading skills

and a desire to proclaim the Word of the Lord as a

Lector during the weekend Masses in the six

churches of Christ the King Parish may contact Fr.

Dale DeNinno.

Bishop David A. Zubik will officially

install Fr. Dale DeNinno as the Pastor of Christ

the King Parish on Saturday, September 11, 2021

during the 4:00 o'clock Mass in Saint Joseph

Church. This site was chosen so that the Mass

may be live-streamed to parishioners unable to be

in attendance and others who may wish to view

the ceremony.

Father John Gizler, the Vicar for the

Northern Vicariate in the Diocese of Pittsburgh,

will also be present, as will the other clergy of

Christ the King Parish: Father Bill Siple, Father

Vince Kolo and Deacon Bob Wertz.

With the permission of Father Gizler, the

4:30 Mass in Madonna of Jerusalem Church and

the 5:00 o'clock Mass in Saint Scholastica Church

will be cancelled on Saturday, September 11TH.

All parishioners are encouraged to attend the 4:00

o'clock Mass in Saint Joseph Church as an

expression of the unity of our new parish. The

schedule of Sunday morning Masses on

September 12TH remains unchanged and the 4:30

and 5:00 o'clock Vigil Masses will resume the

following Saturday on September 18TH.

Christ the King Parish Administrative Center

According to the directives of the Diocese of Pittsburgh,

there is to be one administrative office for the parish. The

main office location for Christ the King Parish will be at

Saint Joseph Church, 342 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA

15215. All billing and correspondence should be directed to

that address. However, there will still be office hours at

three other churches in Christ the King Parish.

Progress, Not Perfection

One of the greatest phrases that comes from 12-Step Recovery

work is “Progress, not perfection,” reminding us that the only

requirement for AA or NA is the desire to stop drinking or using.

“After all, we are not saints.” This simple phrase, I think, allows

us to be human, allowing us to not be so terrified of failing. Life isn’t perfect and neither is recovery.

Our journey into the hope of recovery is seldom linear. Rather, the journey into recovery, and for that matter into life, is full

of detours, obstacles, wrong turns and even getting lost, realizing that the journey is as important as the destination. As a

matter of fact, it is, I believe, the journey that holds out the promise of recovery. Often in recovery, as in life, it is the

detours, road blocks, stumbles, and falls that teach us about how to discover the path to freedom.

The quest for perfection can sabotage progress. Often in life and in recovery, we tend to sacrifice the good for the perfect.

Life isn’t perfect, and certainly recovery is never perfect. So relax; take it easy; live life on life’s terms. I believe that for

everything in life, we need to remember we ought to always seek progress, not perfection. Because it is in our mistakes, our

weaknesses, and failures that we can encounter the wonderful mystery of God.

A.R.M. will restart packing brown-bag lunches for Light of Life Rescue Mission in September. We are in need of the

following: Cookies – 15 packs, Raisins – 150 small boxes, Gum – 108 packs, Granola bars – 132, Drinks (mixes or

pouches) – 101. Thank you for your continued support and generosity!

will have prayer and praise music led by Fr. Levi Hartle and Praise Nation Pittsburgh, along with an activity, a reflection

and light refreshments. All are welcome!

Mass is celebrated at Saint Francis Church at 12:00 Noon on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Exposition of

the Holy Sacrament will be on Wednesdays, immediately following Mass until 7:00 pm when we will hold a Holy Hour for

recovery.

Franciscan Sisters, T.O.R., Share His Mercy Benefit: Please join us on Saturday, September 25, for our Share

His Mercy Benefit 2021, themed Living by Faith: In the Footsteps of St. Joseph. This year we joyfully extend the

invitation to join us at our home, our Motherhouse. The event begins with lunch at 1 pm. This meal will include indoor

or outdoor seating options for our guests. Following the meal, our program will be held in our chapel, where our sisters

will share their original music and what inspired it. A Sunday vigil Mass will close our time together. Additionally, we

will be offering the option for guests to join us virtually from their own homes. Your support makes it possible for us

to live our life of prayer, participate in works of mercy to the poor, give guidance and witness to students on college

campuses, visit our friends in nursing homes, promote vocations, and provide formation and guidance for our new

sisters. Registration is required for both the in-person and virtual options and can be found under the events page at

www.franciscansisterstor.org.
