In-Church Mass with the Community

Let Us Support One Another and Do Our Part As Best We Can

May the Grace of God and the fullness of his blessing be on your families during this time. Balancing the physical, public health precautions deemed necessary with the spiritual good of the faithful, Christ the King Parish resumes limited opportunities for our faithful to return to our churches while maintaining the necessary, required public health precautions present in the CDC Guidelines as the Diocese gradually and safely moves toward the full restoration of Catholic spiritual and sacramental life. The Post-Pandemic Parish Task Force of Pastors (P4) has developed “Directives” that all parishes are to observe for participation at “in Church” public Masses and sacramental administrations throughout the Diocese of Trenton. The following are the procedures and requirements Christ the King Parish is to follow in order that we may offer the sacraments and for the faithful to participate in them. All these norms will help us to protect you and all other members of our community. I hope we can count on your patience and collaboration.

Directives for Limited Public Celebration of the Sacraments in Church

for CHRIST THE KING PARISH until Further Notice THE SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION On Saturday, June 20th and June 27th, we will have outdoor confessions from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Three priests will be offering the sacrament of confession in the handicap parking lot atStar of the Sea Church. Confessionals will not be used. For indoor confessions, a well-ventilated area must be used that would allow for social distancing. Beginning Saturday, July 4th, our parish will offer confessions every Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the sunroom behind the Star of the Sea Church. (The room is located between the Church and the rectory; the entrance is behind the church.) Both doors will be kept open. All arrangements for confessions must safeguard the health of both priest and penitent, while respecting the dignity and confidentiality of the Sacrament. Penitents are to observe social distancing while waiting in line, at least 6 feet apart, and masks must be worn by priest and penitent. The penitents should confess facing the crucifix and not the priest. In order to decrease the potential spread of COVID-19, penitents may choose to stand or to be seated. A chair will be provided if needed. It is highly recommended to stand and not touch anything during your confession. THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM The celebration of Baptism within Mass is suspended. Baptisms outside of Mass are to be celebrated one family at a time. We will schedule baptisms on other days in addition to Saturday and Sunday. The number attending should adhere to social distance guidelines with a maximum of 25 persons. (Continued)

(Continued from previous page) THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM (continued) Masks are to be worn by all present. Only parents or godparents may hold the infant during the ceremony. Sanitizer should be used when there is any physical contact before, during or after Baptism. Fresh baptismal water is to be blessed, used and disposed of after each celebration. A “shell” or other implement should be utilized to pour the water in the act of baptizing. The signing of the cross and anointing should be done with a cotton ball or “Q-tip” which should be burned or buried afterward. For baptismal garments, the clothes that the infant is already wearing will be his baptismal garment. Group photographs in church after the Baptism are not permitted. The celebrant will not receive or make physical contact with the faithful after the baptism; families should exit church immediately after Baptism in an orderly manner. THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Only the marriage ceremony (not Mass) may be celebrated in church until further notice. Number of persons in church should be limited to 25, as on a weekday Mass; live‑streamed ceremonies may also be offered. All present must wear masks, with the exception of the bride and groom. Social distancing is to be observed throughout the celebration. Worship aids or other booklets, hymnals, papers and programs are not to be distributed/used in church. Greeting at the doors is prohibited. Celebrant will stand at least six feet from the couple, e.g., on the other side of the altar. Wedding rings should be held by the groom only. The sign of peace and any physical contact between participants, except the bride and groom, is prohibited. The inclusion of particular or ethnic customs that might jeopardize social distancing should be discouraged but may be determined by the celebrant. Any receiving line is prohibited; participants should exit the church immediately after the ceremony. The celebrant should devise a plan for an orderly exit from church, e.g., pew by pew, perhaps using the same plan as at public “in Church” Sunday Masses. Group photographs in church after the ceremony are prohibited. Live-streaming of the ceremony is permitted and encouraged.

CATHOLIC FUNERALS IN CHURCH

[MASS IN THE ABSENCE OF THE BODY] All directives for the celebration of public “in Church” Masses are to be observed. Masks are to be worn and social distancing maintained. No physical contact is permitted in church. The texts for the “Masses for the Dead” are to be used rather than those of the Mass of Christian Burial. (Continued)

Page 7: CHRIST THE KING · 2020-06-11 · Christ the King Parish resumes limited opportunities for our faithful to return to our churches while maintaining the necessary, required public

The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 14, 2020

539 Christ the King Page 7

(Continued from previous page) [FUNERAL RITES IN THE PRESENCE OF THE BODY] Vigil for the Deceased Visitation and vigils in church are prohibited and should be conducted in the funeral home or other appropriate, dignified place. The casket must be closed before the minister begins. Ministers and all present must wear a mask and observe social distancing. Holy water to be used (if at all) should be blessed and disposed of properly. Mass of Christian Burial All directives for the celebration of the public “in Church” Masses are to be observed. Social distancing is to be maintained at all times and masks are to be worn. Number of persons present should follow directives for public “in Church” Masses, preferably 25, but if necessary, no more than one third of church seating capacity. Physical contact with those attending is prohibited. The use of the pall is suspended. Holy water may be blessed, used and disposed of properly, and incense may be used. Live-streaming of the Mass is permitted and encouraged. For the committal, the number of persons in attendance should follow NJ State regulations for cemeteries and physical contact with those in attendance is prohibited. THE SACRAMENT OF THE ANOINTING OF THE SICK At any health care facility: Priests are to follow the health precautions required by the institution for medical staff; priests should sanitize themselves immediately after their visit. At the home of the sick: Sanitize hands prior to entering the house and immediately after the visit. Mask must be worn. Whether in health care facility or at the home, a cotton swab or “Q-tip” is to be used for anointing and must be burned or buried after use. I hope we can support each other during this difficult time with our prayers and by taking seriously our responsibilities to overcome this situation with God's help. Be assured that you are in my prayers and I will do what I consider necessary for your spiritual and physical well-being. Please follow our masses through our channel on YouTube – Fr Javo Diaz. I commend you to the mercy and power of God and the care of our Blessed Mother. Fr. Javier Díaz Pastor

Christ the King Food Pantry Report - June 3

Where would we be without the kindness of others? There are so many people and organizations to thank this week. Michael Attardi, an NFL alumni (as well as LBHS alumni!) offered to have the men of his NFL alumni group hold a food drive to benefit Christ the King food pantry and St. Luke’s food pantry. The administration of the Ocean Place Resort agreed to hold the event in their parking lot. The men (alumni of various pro-football teams) were present to sign autographs, take pictures and chit chat with public who came to donate. John Perri, owner of Lawns of Perfection Landscaping in Long Branch, allowed the food drive to use his truck to store the food, and he delivered it to both food pantries at the end of the day. Thank you, Michael - and thank you, John. The Long Branch School Employees Association provided the pantry with a sizeable grant. The grant enabled us to purchase laundry detergent pods to be given out with the bags next week. Thank you to the LBSEA and to Mary Ann McKenzie and Par Fahr who repackaged pods for distribution. Laundry Pod safety tips will be provided by RWJ/SBH. Jean McKinney and Sylvia Jacobs from Monmouth Medical Center (RWJ/BH) provided enough masks (with instructions, in plastic bag) for each bag distributed this week. They also have provided multilingual COVID-19 precaution sheets. RWJ/BH donated 2 wall-mounted hand sanitizer dispensers with refills for use at the pantry. They also gave washable masks for pantry workers. The Youth Group from St. Anselm’s in Wayside collected and organized 111 hygiene kits with toilet paper, soap, tooth brush and toothpaste. Thank you to the young people and their families. The Philly Pretzel Factory in Eatontown brought over 250 hot pretzels today. Who doesn’t love a hot Philly pretzel! Again this week, we received bread from Joe Leone’s, thanks to Mr. Fuentes, and Common Market produce boxes, thanks to Michelle Dee at Jersey Cares. (continued)

Our guardian angels are busy. Many food donations and monetary donations came to us.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the dedicated workers: Chris Dalton, Wayne Embry, Ken Orechio, Tom De Clemente, Rick Harrison, Mary Ann McKenzie, Mike Beson, and Phil Hinck who prepared the bags for the 230 families who came today. During the month of May we helped 939 familieswith food!
