Welcome  December 22 2013

Welcome to Unley Park Baptist today. It is great to have you with us. If you are new to

Unley Park, we appreciate that it can be daunting to walk into a new church, so as much

as we can, we want to help you feel at home here.

In the pew in front of you please find a black folder that contains a white care card foryou to complete.

There is also a "Welcome Pack" available for you that, among other things, has a special

Care Card for you to record your visit and for us to follow up any requests you make.

All Care Cards should be "posted" as you leave the church, in the locked box on the table

by the "Baptistry Door".

Just a Minute

Something dawned on me recently that my grandchildren know very well. I am a relic

from the old days! After all, I grew up before we had computers. Imagine living in a

world like that! We spent most of our time playing with dinosaurs!!

When I think about the old days, I’m reminded that without computers, we didn’t know

as much about each other as we do now. People had a ‘private’ life and a ‘public’ life.

We only discovered what happened in people’s private lives when someone died and a

book was written. We would read with amazement at things we would never have

thought possible. Often the book opened up a whole new world of understanding about

that person.

How different things are today!

Now we have social media sites like Face Book, Twitter and video sharing sites like You

Tube. There seems to be little or no concept of ‘private’ and ‘public’ life. In fact the more

‘private’ the information shared, the more the ‘public’ loves it! We are getting to the

point where we are sharing pointless and useless information that we really don’t need

to hear.

“Never eat leftover sushi for breakfast. Feeling SO pukey right now. LOL!”

Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zane recently predicted that in the next 10 years, sharing

all sorts of details of one’s life in the form of status updates, Twitter feeds and YouTu be

clips will evolve into something even more revealing and make some people’s lives even

less private. Zane predicts that technology will allow something called “LifeCasting,” a

nearly nonstop, streaming video of one’s every moment.

Are we ready for “LifeCasting?”

Imagine living in a world where every thought was streamed.

Imagine living in a world where every desire was published.Imagine living in a world where every failure was highlighted.

Imagine living in a world where every fear was transmitted.

Maybe I’m writing as a ‘relic’, but I don’t think it matters if we have an almost non -stop

streaming of information about our lives, there will still be something we will not or

cannot share about ourselves.

I am grateful that there is still a ‘private’ part to my life that is streamed into the very

presence of God and God alone. He is the only one I trust with every thought, everydesire, every failure and every fear!

Psalm 103 says this……

He does not treat us as our sins deserve

or repay us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is his love for those who fear him;as far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion on his children,

so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;

Lord, there is something about us that feels uncomfortable about someone knowing

everything about us. But if we have to be fully known, I am glad it is you.

God BlessNeil
