    There

    KROQ spokesperson for the Del

    Taco Tour, invited contestants to

bob their heads in tubs of water

to seize taco sauce packets in

their teeth and spit them out to

    win prizes.

    A bevy of spirited

    spectators jumped up

    and down, danced and

    shouted encouragement

for the competitors as KROQ's music

blasted the area. Guests also could spin

a Del Taco Wheel to win prizes, such as

    a Frisbees, cool

    In addition,

In 1984, SOS got Dr. Donald

Drake, MD, then Chief of Staff at Hoag

Hospital, to volunteer and become its

    first Medical Director. He brought

onboard other doctors and nurses as

    volunteers.

    1. Americans spend $36,000,000 at Wal-Mart Every hour of

    every day.

    2. This works out to $20,928 profit every minute!

    3. Wal-Mart will sell more from January 1 to St. Patrick's

Day (March 17th) than Target sells all year.

    4. Wal-Mart is bigger than Home Depot +

    Kroger + Target +Sears + Costco + K-Mart

    combined.

    5. Wal-Mart employs 1.6 million

people, is the world's largest private

    employer, and most speak English.

    6. Wal-Mart is the largest company

in the history of the world.

    7. Wal-Mart now sells more food

    than Kroger and Safeway

combined, and keep in mind they

did this in only fifteen years.

    8. During this same period, 31

    big supermarket chains sought

    bankruptcy.

    9. Wal-Mart now sells more food

than any other store in the world.

    10. Wal-Mart has approx 3,900 stores

You may think that I am complaining, but I am

really laying the ground work for

    suggest ing

    that MAYBE

we should hire the guys who

    run Wal-Mart to fix the

    economy.

    This should be read and

    understood by all Americans

    Democrats, Republicans, EVERYONE!!

To President Obama and all 535 voting

members of the Legislature, It is now

    official:

.. The U.S. Postal Service was

established in 1775. You have had

234 years to get it right and it is

    broke.

    b.. Social Security was established

in 1935. You have had 74 years to

get it right and it is broke.

    c.. Fannie Mae was established

in 1938. You have had 71 years

to get it right and it is broke.

d.. War on Poverty started in1964. You have had 45 years to

get it right; $1 trillion of our

money is confiscated each year and

transferred to "the poor" and they

    only want more.

    e.. Medicare and Medicaid were

established in 1965. You have had 44

g.. The Department of Energy was created in 1977 to lessen

our dependence on foreign oil. It has ballooned to 16,000

employees with a budget of $24 billion a year and we import

more oil than ever before. You had 3 2 years to

    get it right.

On NPR radio (6/14/10) the Sheriff of Pinal County (Southern Arizona) said he needs at least 1,500

deputies to patrol just the southern end of his county which borders Mexico.

Presently he has about 240 deputies to cover the entire

county. Basically he has given up the

southern end of his county to the drug

traffickers and illegals. He stated he

cannot cover the LEGAL residents and

    business owners in the southern

    portion of his

The recent news on the housing front has

been dismal. In fact, its been absolutely

abysmal! Todays numbers on housing salesshowed pending home sales

plunged by 27% from the previous month. This

    represents the largest single-

month drop since recordsbegan in 1968. The short-term

implications caused the Dowto temporarily drop below the

10,000 level before finallysettling down 134 points, or

    1.3% below the days open.

The worries on Wall Street arethe same as on Main Street

there is no sign that thehousing market is recovering

any time soon. In fact, there

are renewed fears of a double-dip in housing prices.

Does this dark cloudhave a silver lining? All this

negative economic news hasfueled the flight to bonds and

    other safe havens, propelling

mortgage rates to new all-time lows. But what good is a

    record-low rate ifhomeowners dont have

    enough equity to qualify? For

existing homeowners, the equity depletion is thegreateset threat of a double-dip.

Mortgage rates have been on and off historiclows for some time now. Most anyone who could

qualify to refinance to a lower rate has alreadydone so. In fact, many homeowners who

refinanced into a rate at 4.875% or higher last year

are coming back to reduce their rates at 4.25% or

lower this year. As long as you have the equity to

qualify, why not continue to save more money?

There are far too many homeowners whodont have enough equity to

qualify for a refinance basedon todays depressed

    property values. Many more

homeowners have enoughequity to qualify but not

enough equity to avoidmortgage insurance as an

added expense of therefinance. Since property

    values began their

downward spiral I have beenfortunate to work with many

homeowners who haveenough reserves to pay down

    their loan balances in order

to obtain ideal refinancingterms. Unfortunately, Ive

seen far too manyhomeowners who lacked

either the ability or thedesire to pay down their

    principle balances in order

to qualify. Many of thesehomeowners decided their

needs would be betterserved by waiting for

    home prices to recover

rather than paying down the principle. Currently, thats looking to take a lot longer than anyone

had previously anticipated. The long-term prognosis for existing

homeowners is bleak. The equity whichAmerican homes have lost is not likely to come

back for years, and todays news indicates that

home prices may get even worse before they

    begin to get better. A

    homeowner who has been

waiting on the sidelines, eitherfor rates to go down or for values

to go back up, shouldreconsider how this

    renewed threat impacts

their financing strategy. If a homeowner has

30% equity or less, waiting any longer may

prevent them from having sufficient equity toqualify in the event values fall any lower.

Of course, whats bad news for some is good

news for others. A dip in housing sales means thatthere are more individuals looking to sell than

there are looking to buy. Combine that with arecord supply of short sales, foreclosures and

bank-owned properties, this may just be the best

buyers market ever. Whether it's a primaryresidence, second home or investment property,

there are plenty of deals available for thoselooking to buy.

    property values, visit http://www. bloomberg.com

Scientists discovered the new microbe while

    studying the underwater dispersion of

millions of gallons of oil spilled into the

Gulf following the explosion of BP's Deepwater

    Horizon drilling rig.

In this image provide by the journal Science,

microbes degrade oil, indicated by the circle of

dashes, in the deepwater plume from the BP oilspill in the Gulf of Mexico, as documented in a

    study by Berkeley Lab researchers.

And the microbe works without significantly

depleting oxygen in the water, researchers led by

Terry Hazen at Lawrence Berkeley National

Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., reported Tuesday

    in the online journal Sciencexpress.

"Our findings, which provide the first data

ever on microbial activity from a deepwater

dispersed oil plume, suggest a great potential for

bacteria to help dispose of oil plumes in the deep-

sea," Hazen said in a statement.

    Environmentalists have raised concerns

about the giant oil spill and the underwater plume

of dispersed oil, particularly its potential effects on

sea life. A report just last week described a 22-mile

long underwater mist of tiny oil droplets.

    "Our findings show that

    the influx of oil profoundly

    altered the microbial

    community by significantly

    stimulating deep-sea" cold

    temperature bacteria that are

    closely related to known

    petroleum-degrading microbes,

    Hazen reported.

    Their findings are based

    on more than 200 samples

    collected from 17 deepwater

sites between May 25 and June

    2. They found that the dominant microbe in the oil

plume is a new species, closely related to members

    of Oceanospirillales.

This microbe thrives in cold water, with

temperatures in the deep recorded at 5 degrees

    Celsius (41 Fahrenheit).

Hazen suggested that the bacteria may have

adapted over time due to periodic leaks and natural

seeps of oil in the Gulf.Scientists also had been concerned that oil-

eating activity by microbes would consume large

amounts of oxygen in the water, creating a "dead

zone" dangerous to other life. But the new study

found that oxygen saturation outside the oil plume

was 67-percent while within the plume it was 59-

    percent.

The research was supported by an existing

grant with the Energy Biosciences Institute, a

partnership led by the University of California,

Berkeley and the University of Illinois that is

funded by a $500 million, 10-year grant from BP.

Other support came from the U.S. Department of

Energy and the University of Oklahoma Research

    Foundation.

Sciencexpress is the online edition of the

    journal Science."

Sharon Weinberger, an AOL Contributor, shares her

thoughts on "ray-gun" technology or, perhaps better

    deemed a microwave gun...

"...An invisible heat-beam weapon developed in secrecy by the

military is set for use in a U.S. jail.

Law enforcement officials recently revealed plans to use the

nonlethal device at the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's

Pitchess Detention Center, according to the Los Angeles Daily News.

The weapon, which shoots an invisible beam of energy, would be used

in the prisoners' dormitory to stop an assault or break up a fight.

Called the Assault Intervention Device, it uses millimeter waves

to heat the top layer of skin, causing an intense burning sensation that

forces the person being targeted to move away immediately.

"I equate it to opening an oven door and feeling that blast of hot

air, except instead of being all over me, it's more focused," said Bob

Osborne, commander of the Sheriff's Department's Technology

Exploration Program, according to the Daily News.

The weapon being installed in the jail is a smaller version of a

technology originally developed by the military for use on the

battlefield. The military's weapon, called the Active Denial System,

can be put on a Humvee or truck, and researchers are also working on

    a aircraft-mounted version.

Raytheon, which makes the Assault Intervention Device, markets

several versions of the weapon on its website.

The smaller version of the weapon being installed in the jail

creates pain on a single part of the body, rather than all-over heat likethe military version. A local news video showing the device being

tested features a laughing test subject clutching a single part of the

body where he has been hit, and then moving out of the way.

The device's use at the Pitchess Detention Center is part of a

six-month evaluation being conducted by the National Institute of

Justice to look at possible widespread use of the technology in

jails. If that happens, then it will place law enforcement agencies

    well ahead of the military.

Despite spending years and tens of millions of dollars to develop

the nonlethal technology, the military has not yet deployed the Active

Denial System, in large part because of concerns of a public relations

backlash against using a "microwave weapon." Ironically, a former Air

Force secretary even suggested that the weapon should first be used in

the United States before being deployed abroad.

The Pentagon this year did send a truck-mounted version of the

weapon to Afghanistan for testing, but it was sent home without ever

    being used."

    Robust flavor of a good

    cabernet or pinot noir

mates well with meataccording to Columnist Catherine

    Rabb of the CharlotteObxerver.com

By the end of summer, I'm alittle weary of the crisp,

    refreshing whites and light salads

that have sustained me throughthe heat. I crave something red to

drink, and a juicy grilled burgerto mark the transition to fall.

    The beautiful thing about

grilling, at least in terms of winechoices, is that the smoky,

caramelized flavors of grilledfoods beg for intensely flavorful

wines. Wines that might be toooaky, too fruity or just too "big"

are at their best with something

hot off the grill. The fat of grilled meat

offsets some of the chewy tanninsin red wines, and a great burger cries out for the big, flavorful fruit and

intensity of the best American and New World wines.

For a classic American-style burger, try an American Syrah fromproducers such as Qupe, Phelps or R.H. Phillips, or one of those amazing

California cabernet sauvignons. It's impossible to even try to mentionproducers, as there are so many terrific choices. Australia has a lot to offer

burger aficionados as well, with rich and fruity Shiraz, and their lovely Shirazblends. I am particularly fond of the way these fruity blends pair with strong

cheese like smoked Gouda or Roquefort on a burger. Try Penfolds, Marquis

    Philips, Mollydooker or Henschke.

    Argentines love their beef,

and pair it with Malbec, a full-

throttle, black fruit-flavored wine.I'm particularly fond of producers

Susana Balbo, Alamos andTrapiche. American zinfandel is

extremely grill-friendly, especiallyif you like a barbecue sauce on

your burger. The Black Chicken in

Matthews sells a great one, the2007 Four Vines Maverick, for

$19.50. And, of course,Ravenswood, Ridge, Dry Creek

and Gnarly Head all make great

bottles. If you are grilling up black

bean or portobello mushroom burgers, try a pinot noir,

especially the full-bodied richstyles from producers like

    Willakenzie, Domaine Carneros

or Belle Glos. There issomething about the earthy

complexity of grilled mushroomsand a great pinot noir that makes a memorable pairing. Local wine lover

Harvey Morrow recommends Stonewood Cellars Pinot Noir from

Arthur's at Southpark for $8.99.If you are grilling a lighter-style veggie burger, opt for an elegant pinot

style, such as Acacia, Saintsbury or Chalone. Scott Miller suggests Dyed Inthe Wool Pinot Noir from New Zealand ($9 at Harris Teeter).

With grills getting hot in anticipation of Labor Day, there's a great wineout there for just about any tasty burger.

    EarthTalk:

    Should I

    fear radiation exposure

    associated with medical scans

such as CT scans, mammograms and the like?

    -- Shelly Johansen, Fairbanks, AK

The short answer ismaybe. Critics of the

health care industry postulate that our societys

quickness to test for disease may in fact be causing

more of it, especially in the case o f medical scans. To

wit, the radiation dose from a typical CT scan (short

for computed tomography and commonly known as

a cat scan) is 600 times more powerful than the

    average chest x-ray.

A 2007 study by Dr. Amy Berrington de

Gonzlez of the National Cancer Institute projected

that the 72 million CT scans conducted yearly in the

U.S. (not including scans conducted after a cancer

diagnosis or performed at the end of life) will likely

cause some 29,000 cancers resulting in 15,000

deaths two to three decades later. Scans of the

abdomen, pelvis, chest and head were deemed most

likely to cause cancer, and patients aged 35 to 54

were more likely to develop cancer as a result of CT

    scans than other age group.

Another study found that, among Americans

who received CT scans, upwards of 20 percent had a

false positive after one scan and 33 percent after two,

meaning that such patients were getting huge doses

of radiation without cause. And about seven percent

of those patients underwent unnecessary invasive

medical procedures following their misleading scans.

CT scans are much more common today than in earlier

decades, exacerbating the potential damage from false

    positives and excessive radiation exposure.

Physicians and their patients cannot be

complacent about the hazards of radiation or we risk

creating a public-health time bomb, says Dr. Rita

Redberg, a cardiologist at University of California-San

Francisco. To avoid unnecessarily increasing cancer

incidence in future years, every clinician must carefully

assess the expected benefits of each CT scan and fully

inform his or her patients of the known risks of

    radiation.

CT scans are not the only concern. Mammograms

are now routine for women over 40 years old. But some

studies suggest that these types of screenings may cause

more cancers than they prevent. Because of this, the

federally funded U.S. Preventive Services Task Force

now recommends that women not otherwise considered

high risk for breast cancer wait until age 50 to begin

getting mammogramsand then to get them every two

years instead of annually. However, the American

Cancer Society argues that such restraint would result

in women dying unnecessarily from delaying

    screenings.

Women with a family history of breast cancer

may be at greatest risk. Researchers from the

University Medical Center Groningen in the

Netherlands found that five or more x-raysor any

exposure to radiationbefore the age of 20 for high

risk women increased the likelihood of developing

breast cancer later by a factor of two and a half.

Individuals should ask tough questions of their

physicians to determine if and how much screening is

absolutely necessary to look for suspected

abnormalities. Our knowledge of the risks of radiation-

based screenings will only help us to make more

    informed decisions about our health.

statements ofsix MLB teams, the obvious conclusion is that

Wall Street fat-cats have nothing on MLBs have-

nots. As bailouts go, the revenue-sharing systemin MLB is on a par with the federal TARP

    program.The documents provide a rare, in-depth

picture of not only how much money is goingto poorer clubs, but what those clubs are doing

or not doing - with the bounty. Its clear that both the Pirates and the Marlins have been

milking the games revenue-sharing system at

the expense of the wealthy clubs, led by theYankees and the Red Sox.

Providing lower revenue clubs the means tocompete, even at the expense of the higher

revenue clubs, is good for everyone. But theleaked financials paint a different picture. The

Pirates showed a profit of approximately $29million in 2007 and 2008. During the same

period, the team paid its partners over $20

million, in part to cover the taxes on that incomeand also to repay a seven-year-old loan to one of

its partners. Exactly how the teams revenue-sharing receipts, and those payments, made the

team more competitive is not open to debate. ThePirates are currently riding an 18-year losing streak

    - a record for a North American Major League

sports franchise all while maintaining one of the

    lowest payrolls in MLB.

The Marlins misuse of revenue sharing funds

may be even more egregious. The club insisted it

needed a new taxpayer-funded stadium in order tocompete with other MLB teams. After more than a

decade of crying wolf, the Marlins got their wish in

2008 when funding for a stadium that will cost

taxpayers almost $2.5 billion by the time its paid

off was finally approved. But the Marlins, with apayroll similar to the Pirates, showed a profit of

more than $37 million in 2008 and perhaps asmuch as $90 million in the three years leading

up to the stadium approvals . N ow, a number of politicians are crying foul, asking that the vote

    be reopened based on fraudulent

misrepresentation by Marlins officials.Get ready for Armageddon. Revenue

sharing has now moved to the top of the list ofissues in the upcoming negotiations for a new

Collective Bargaining Agreement, ahead ofsuch issues as a slotting system for the June

draft. Surely the players association, whichmust approve any changes to the existing

system, will join the higher revenue clubs in

arguing for revisions to the system that willresult in more money going to payroll.

Revenue-sharing has not served itsintended purpose. Its merely Robin Hood in a

suit and tie, a transfer of funds from the rich tothe so-called poor. The time has come to

change the system in a way that wont permitMLB clubs to emulate Wall Street. The information contained in this column does not

    The

    2012 Mustang

    Boss 302 was unveiled this

morning at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and we

were at the track bright and early to s ee it take a lap around the famous

race course. Due to some early morning rain, the lap actually neverhappened (we weren't told and were up at the corkscrew

for about an hour waiting in the rain), but we

managed to make it down to the pits to

catch our first glimpse at the car.

    We'll spare you going over

the details again - you can see

    the official press release, photos

and video from our post this

    morning but what we can

bring you are the first live photos

    of the Mustang Boss 302,

including a few of the "Laguna

    Seca" edition. Enjoy!
