The excellent, refreshing 2010 vintage offered all the motivation we needed toinclude a range of delicious new Loire whites and rosés, many just bottled, for us all to enjoy. Thanks to the gloriously ripe 2009 vintage, we also feature a goodnumber of delectable reds which we strongly recommend. Sparkling wines arealso a Loire speciality, from the lightest of Saumur fizz for everyday to Huet’sexquisite Vouvray Pétillant.

So much variety! The Loire provides such rich pickings for wine lovers because,as the longest river in France, it boasts along its banks and tributaries a multitudeof different soils which allow a range of grapes to flourish, creating a wonderfulvariety of styles to enjoy. Many members travel to this beautiful region using ourshowroom in Montreuil as a pleasant pit-stop and have discovered for themselvesthat quality is now better than ever the length of the valley.

We offer a mix of new finds and old favourites below, including four mixed casesto aid exploration.

Pays Nantaisand the West The region around Nantes is the homeof France’s most famous ‘seafoodwine’, Muscadet, which is consistentlyrefreshing and light on the palate. TheVendée coast has its own appellation, with a far greater diversity of grapesplanted. Both are enjoying a new leaseof life thanks to the drive of a newgeneration of winemakers.

Anjou & Saumur Chenin blanc dominates white and sparkling wine production here and producesan extraordinary array of styles. Cabernet franc is the most planted red grape, andin good years like 2009 produces wonderfully appetising, well-structured wineswith lovely freshness and bouquet.
