Parking in a bus stop is fine.A $100 fine, that is.

It is illegal to park in a bus stop.

Boarding and exiting the bus atthe curb is becoming easier dueto several initiatives underway toeliminate vehicles parked illegallyat MBTA bus stops:

• Increased enforcement of theBus Stop Law by T police; fivetimes as many tickets wereissued by T officers for illegallyparking in a bus stop in 2009 vs.2008 (approximately 1,500 vs.300)

• An ongoing replacement of allMBTA bus stop signs, with newsigns that include the statement:"$100 fine for parking in a busstop"

• A pilot program to make the busstops more conspicuous bypainting the pavement and curbat key bus stops with acontrasting color

• Electronic reporting of problembus stops by Bus Operators viaon-board "Transit Master"

• Ongoing customer efforts tomonitor and report bus stopviolators to local lawenforcement officials
