THE MISUSE OF GUNS AND NOT ENOUGH LAWS CONTROLLING
GUNS
• The problem all started around the 1300s when firearms were invented
• by 1364 the first recorded use of a firearm• 1892 the introduction of automatic handguns
Accidents caused by guns
More than 500 children die annually from accidental gunshots. In 2008 a 3 year old child was sitting in the car at gas station when he found his parents gun and shot himself in the face.
The Second Amendment protects the right of the people to keep
and bear arms. It was adopted on December 15, 1791
The same freedom that causes 30,000 deaths in the United States every year
Homicides caused by guns
Frank Lautenberg says U.S. has 9,500 gun murders a year, compared to 200 or less in other nations in the year 2009.
Large metropolitan areas suffer about two-thirds of all firearm homicides in the United States, with inner cities most affected.
People living in 50 of the largest cities, in fact, accounted for 67% of all firearm homicides in 2006-2007
My opinion
I think that guns should be abolished for any civilian only people who should be allowed to carry guns are military personnel and law enforcement agencies.
Illegal trade and sale of guns New York's Bloomberg set up an out-of-state
sting operations, with investigators posing as straw men. He then sued the 27 gun dealers in five states whose illegal practices were traced to guns used in crimes committed in New York City.
Surveys of offenders have found that they prefer newer, high-quality guns and may steal or borrow them; most, however, acquire guns "off the street" through the illicit gun market.
Why is there an excessive amount of guns
U.S. most armed country with 90 guns per 100 people
U.S. citizens own 270 million of the world's 875 million known firearms, according to the Small Arms Survey 2007 by the Geneva-based Graduate Institute of International Studies
4.5 million of the 8 million new guns manufactured worldwide each year are purchased in the United States
Why are guns easily accessible
Only 60% of guns are sold through background checks in the U.S.
only six states (CA, CO, IL, NY, OR, RI) require universal background checks on all firearm sales at gun shows
two out of every five guns sold in the United States change hands without a background check
My Suggestions that could be done to help the situation
Crack down on the illegal guns Set up organizations to help kids stay
away from gun violence Strengthen law enforcement tactics Stop the manufacturing of guns Stop the selling of guns
What others can do
People who want to help with this issue should join organizations like The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) which seeks to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy. We should also go to lawmakers and ask them to tighten the right to bear arms right and stop the sale of guns illegally and to criminals.
