Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in the world. The gift of fatherhood is a special blessing and the role of the father in the family is an important and vital blessing to the growth and maturity of children. Pope Francis writes, “Fathers are so necessary as examples and guides for

our children in wisdom and virtue. Without father fig-ures, young people often feel orphaned; left adrift at a critical moment in their growth and development.”

Today is a day of thanksgiving for our fathers. Study after study shows the presence of a father in the household has enormous benefit to the happi-ness of the mother and children. We understand always that no father is perfect and yet we are called to seek the goodness of fatherhood and pass it on the words and actions of compassion and strength as husbands and fathers. Bishop Fulton Sheen writes, “The initiative given earthly fathers to beget new fountains of life is not only participation in Divine fatherhood; there is a fur-ther likeness in that the good father will so educate his children that they will go back again to God, from Home they came…so that children will never be separated in education and destiny from their heav-enly Father.” (p 142 from Three to Get Married)

The father, as spiritual leader of the family, helps to grow the Catholic Church and strengthen the faith of his family in unity with the mother of the children. Celebrating this gift of fatherhood we pray for all our fathers, living and dead, that they may continue to be just and holy examples of faith and mercy in the world.

Food for the Poor

Next weekend June 24 and 25 we welcome Fr. Robert White to St. Lucy Parish. Fr. White is a priest working for Food For The Poor. During this weekend will share the work of the Catholic Church in many parts of the world. Outreach Pantry Needs: We need the following items to make up household food bags for those fami-lies that will be registering for School Backpacks in July: 2 Cans of vegetables, 2 or 3 cans of tuna, 2 pounds of dried beans, 2 pounds of rice, 2 cans of hearty soup, 2 boxes of macaroni and cheese, 2 pounds of pasta, 2 jars of pasta sauce, 2 cans of fruit. We also provide a children's bag for these fami-lies with a large box of cereal, a 16 oz jar of peanut butter and a 16 oz jar of jelly. Bring your food dona-tions to Church and place them in the food donation baskets on the weekend of June 17-18 or deliver the food to the Outreach Office between 10 am and 11:45 am Monday thru Friday. Please check the expiration date on the food that you give us. We can not give out food past the "Best Used By" date or if the pack-age has been opened. Remember - Check the Date before you Donate

Rent and Utility Assistance Available Thanks to the Catholic Community Foundation: St. Lucy Par-ish has received a $3,000 grant from the Catholic Community Foundation to help with food, school (K-12) backpacks, utilities and rent for individuals and families who apply for assistance at the St. Lucy Out-reach Office. We combine these grant funds with the St. Vincent de Paul fifth Sunday collections and vari-ous other grants to help those in need. To apply for these funds come to the Outreach Office between 10 am and 11:45 am Monday thru Friday. Please bring your utility bill and/or your rental agreement with you.

Volunteers needed two hours per week We are looking for two or three volunteers that can dedicate either two hours a week or two hours every other week between 10 am and 11:45 am. We espe-cially need bilingual volunteers (English and Span-ish). Stop by the Outreach Office or call and leave your contact information at 408-378-8086 so we can set up an interview.

On behalf of the teens going to the Life Teen Summer Retreat in Ojai, CA we'd like to give the St. Lu-cy community a big THANK YOU for your donations and your support during our Hot Dog Sale this past Sunday the 28th. We were able to raise over $1,200 which will be divided equally among the teens attend-ing this retreat. Each teen has to pay $295 plus transportation cost in order to go, your help and support help reduce that cost for our families. We had a great time serving up bacon-wrapped hot dogs to the hun-gry crowds after Mass. There's still room for high school students to attend this amazing retreat. Open registrations! For the children’s catechesis

We offer the following programs:

PRESCHOOL: St. Lucy offers catechesis for early childhood (Ages 3-5). Sundays from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM (in English).

GRADES K-6: Catechesis in English. The children receive the First Communion after their 2nd year of catechesis (no counting Kindergarten). Sundays from 10:00 to 11:15 AM or Wednesdays from 4 to 5:15 PM. We also offer ongoing catechesis.

GRADES 1-6: Catechesis in Spanish. The children receive the First Communion after their 2nd year of catechesis. Sundays from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM or Tuesdays from 4:00 to 5:15 PM. We also offer on-going catechesis.

Register your children on time in the parish office on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am - 6pm.
