Over the last few weeks the Grade Two students have been visiting the 3-6 classroom so they can
see what the classroom is like. We asked the Year Two students what they think next year will be
like, here are some of their responses.
Carter: “I think it is going to be fun, but the work might be a bit harder.”
Felicity: “ I think it is going to be great!”
Jonah: “It’ll be fun and I am excited to meet new people.”
We asked Mrs Shaw how she thinks they will go and this is her response. “I think they are going to
go great and they will love the challenges and I think they are going to love being able to go on the
big kids fort.”

News from the Principal’s Desk As we head into the final weeks of the 2019 school year, a reminder that Every Day Counts. It is extremely important that student absences are
kept to a minimum as we use all of the final weeks of the school year to collect student learning data to inform our teaching practice. There are a
number of exciting events on in the final weeks of the year and I ask families to use the newsletter, notes, emails and text messages to keep
yourself informed and organised.
Senior Leaders
I am very excited to share with the school community that we have four students who have achieved their Senior Leader levels in the last few
weeks. A very special congratulations to Ava, Lilly, Amy and Shakina who have demonstrated their ability to be student leaders. We are all very
proud of this achievement.
Year 6 Graduation
This coming Monday is the annual Callide Valley Small Schools Graduation Ceremony. This year we are hosted by the staff and community of
Wowan State School at the Dululu Community Hall. This is always a wonderful community event to mark the important transition of our students
from Year 6 into their Secondary years of schooling. I am looking forward to sharing this event with our graduating students and their families.
PCYC Day
PCYC Day is quickly approaching and is being held on Tuesday 3rd December. We are holding this event in Week 9 of Term 4 due to the large
amount of other school and community events in the final week of school. This term students will have the opportunity to play Netball, learn
CPR, have an Art Gallery Tour and work with the Chaplaincy team. The students will also explore and extend their knowledge of Diet and
Nutrition with our own Mt Murchie Community expert Mrs Beahan.
Moore Stevens Interschool Swimming Carnival
This coming Wednesday is the annual Moore Stevens Interschool Swimming Carnival at the Biloela Swimming Pool. We have used data collected
during our Term One swimming block to identify students with the skills to compete in this carnival. We wish Felicity, Tama, Awhena, Shakina,
Alexis Francis and Hannah all the very best of luck for their swimming on Thursday.
Awards Evening
Our annual Awards Evening will be held on Monday 9th December commencing at 6 p.m. sharp. We do ask all families to bring either a main
meal or dessert item. A list is on the noticeboard ready to go…. get in quick to be able to bring the item which works best for you. If each family
brings the equivalent amount of food that would feed their family then we will have more than enough food for everyone.
Star Day
Our final star Day is on Thursday 12th December. Families are welcome to join us from 8:30 – 11:30 for breakfast, Parade and Open Classroom.
This is a wonderful community way to celebrate student success at the end of the school year.
Secret Santa and Christmas Luncheon
A long standing and very unique traditional belonging to the Mt Murchie Community is the student and staff Christmas Luncheon and Secret
Santa. This occurs on the final Thursday of Term 4. Just a reminder that all students have been allocated a staff and student to bring a $5 Secret
Santa Gift which needs to sent to school by Wednesday 4th December.
Academic Reporting
The teaching team are working diligently to ensure that Academic Reports are ready to send home in Week 10. Reports will be handed out in the
final week and will include a paper copy of the 2020 Booklists where relevant.
2020 Staffing
As communicated yesterday, Mrs Shaw and her family are returning to the shores of the Sunshine Coast for the 2020 school year. Mrs Shaw has
been not only an amazing teacher to our children but also a wonderful colleague. I know I speak on behalf of staff, students and community
when I say that Mrs Shaw has been a highly valued member of our school community, we all wish her and the whole Shaw Clan the very best in
the future. We have been truly blessed to have had the benefits of your expertise and friendship over the last 18 months.
Whole School Review
The Executive Summary from our Whole School Review is available on our Website. I have included the commendations and recommendations
later in this newsletter. The Review highlighted the excellent work that has occurred in our school over the last 4 years and sets us clear strategic
direction for the coming 4 years.
Religious Instruction Christmas Play
Next Thursday afternoon is our annual Religious Instruction Christmas play. This annual event celebrates the religious meaning of Christmas as
we head towards the Christmas Season.
P&C Meeting
Our final P&C Meeting is being held at the Biloela RSL on Friday 6th December from 5 p.m. This will
be a great way to wrap up our final P&C Meeting for the year which we can follow up by dinner and
raffles. Please do not forget that our Christmas Raffle tickets are due back on Monday
2nd December.
With the end of year quickly approaching, this week was the final week of Library for 2019.

OUR NEW ADDITION
I just wanted to take this opportunity to give you all a little bit of
information about myself and what is happening in our 3-6 classroom.
For those of you that don’t know me, my name is Miss Briggs and I
have had the pleasure of coming on board at Mount Murchison at the
beginning of term 4. I have been in and out of the school for the past
year teaching the students, Drama and Visual Arts and filling in every
now and then. I am a graduate teacher with a huge passion for the
Arts and student wellbeing. I am very excited to be on deck here at
Murchie and I am excited to see what the future has in stall.
What are our 3/4’s up to?
We have all been working super hard in our 3/4 classroom with lots of
focus on our learning and our general wellbeing.
History And .Social .Sciences (H.A.S.S.) In H.A.S.S this term
we have been focusing on sustainability on a global level and on a
local level. We are learning what our local council does in regards to
our waste management and we are collaborating and thinking of
ways we can improve our waste management at a school level.
ENGLISH: We have all been working really hard in English this term, first
learning how to analyse poetry and now we are learning about quest novels.
We are reading Rowan of Rin by Emily Rodder and we are super excited to
write our book reviews on this novel.
Wellbeing and Mindfulness
This term we have been focusing on our general wellbeing and trying to make mindfulness apart of our everyday life. For fifteen minutes each day the class practices a breathing meditation to reset our minds just after play. This practice helps us slow down after our stimulating lunches and reconnect with what we have to do in the class-room. Meditation has many excellent benefits for our minds such as:
Learning core emotional Regulation skills.
Reduces stress and anxiety.
Builds emotional and psychological resilience.

My Child Is Sick
What Do I Need to Do??????
My child is sick and needs to have medication at school….
What do I need to do?
It is important to remember that the policy is designed to make sure that all students remain safe. Students can have
allergies to the most common medications and we need to ensure that they cannot access any medication at school.
From 2016, we are only allowed to administer medications that have a DOCTOR’S PERSCRIPTION label on the
medications. This includes all forms of over the counter medicines, including creams, cough medicine, cough lollies and
Vicks . Previously, we have been able to administer some medications with a chemist label, however this is no longer
the case, including Nurofen and Panadol. All students are put at risk if medications are left in student bags.
We cannot administer medications unless the appropriate medication form has been filled out.
For your child to be administered medication at school, you need to:
Arrive at school no later than 8:30 to complete the medication forms and give the medication to teaching staff
Ensure that you collect the medication at the end of the day from the office
We are really happy to administer medication but we must stay within departmental policy when doing so.
We are unable to make exceptions.
Christmas Raffle Our final fundraiser each year is our Annual Christmas
Raffle. Each family has been allocated a book of raffle
tickets to sell to friends, family and community. It is
not a huge expectation to sell these and all families are
asked to support this fundraiser.
We do ask that each family donates $10. The P&C will
use the money to purchase VISA Gift Cards and
Scratchies for the raffle. This was due on Friday
8th November.
All students benefit from our fundraisers through the
multiple ways the P&C support school events.
Your support and help is greatly appreciated.
Tickets will be sent home with the
newsletter this week and are due back
on Monday 2nd December. The raffle
will be drawn on Thursday 12th
December.
Biloela State High School
Year 6 Transition Information Year 6 Enrolment Interviews
Staff from the high school have been conducting Year 6 enrolment interviews at primary schools over the past 5 weeks.
All remaining enrolment interviews for Year 6 students will be held at the high school. Please contact the school office on 4992 8666 to make a time if you have not yet had an interview.
It is important that these interviews are completed prior to the start of the 2020 school year as students that have not participated in an interview will be unable to attend school until they do.
ACE Program
The ACE Program will be running in 2020. Students that submitted applications have been emailed (parent email provided on application) about the outcome of their application on Thursday 31st October. If you believe your child submitted an application but you have not received an email, please contact David Hall.
2nd Transition Day
Year 6 students will attend their second transition day on Tuesday 3rd December. Families are required to transport students to and from Biloela State High School on this transition day Where possible, students will be allocated into their 2020 class combinations on the day so that they have some knowledge of their class groupings.
Outline of the day:
Students are to meet at the large shelter/Spaceframe at 8:45am. Parents are welcome to wait with their child.
Students are to wear their normal primary school uniform on the day including a broad brimmed hat.
Students are to bring a school bag with a notebook, writing materials and water bottle.
Students will need to provide their own lunch or they can purchase food from the tuckshop. The tuckshop is open at both breaks. Students can order food before school at the tuckshop so that they do not have to wait in line at lunch break.
Students will have their own area during lunch breaks and will remain in this area for both breaks.
School finishes at 3:00pm. Students will be dismissed at this time.
Students that normally catch a bus can do so.
If you have any further queries about this day please contact Biloela State High School.
