Registration is required for this event, please register the total number in the group. Have some family fun playing together with the library’s collection of board games such as Guess Who, Sorry, Trouble, Twister, Jenga, Yahtzee, Clue and more!

K – 12th Grade “Guess How Many” Contest Guess how many erasers are in the jar on the Youth Service desk. Write your name, grade, phone number and guess on an entry form. The child guessing the correct number will win a prize. One guess per child please.

All of these activities will help Toddlers develop language and listening skills as well as social interaction.

Bilingual Spanish Storytime Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m. Ages: 2 - 5 years with a caregiver Limit: 15 Length: 30 minutes Children will have fun with engaging books, songs and activities. Storytime will help build early literacy skills and help children learn Spanish through stories and music. Niños se divertiran con libros interesantes, canciones y actividades. El programa les ayudara fortalecer sus habilidades de aprendizaje temprano y les ayudara aprender español a base de historias y musica. Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present in the program room.

LEGO Zone Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3 - 12 years Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Join us for fun and imaginative LEGO-building! We will provide the LEGO’s and you can bring your creative design ideas! All materials must stay at the library, but parents may bring cameras to capture the creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Paint Your Favorite Movie Character Saturday, September 14th at 1:00 p.m. Ages: 7 – 12 years Limit: 30 Length: 90 Minutes Practice drawing some of your favorite movie characters, like Trolls, Minions and Jack from The Incredibles. Then choose your favorite to draw on watercolor paper and paint

using watercolor pencils under Christine’s guidance. The workshop is provided by Christine Thornton’s Art Studio!

Cellphone Felt Case/Purse Saturday, September 21st at 11:30 a.m. Grades: 6th - 12th grade Limit: 15 Length: 45 minutes Come make your own DIY phone case for your cellphone. It’s perfect to protect your phone from all the stuff in your purse. Or, if you want to not bring your purse, you can make it into a case purse and be hands free.

New Launchpad TabletsThe Youth Services Department has added new LAUNCHPAD tablets to the existing collection. These are available for check out. They are preloaded tablets with educational games and material. LAUNCHPADS are for young patrons and teens, but they need to be checked out with an adult card.

Weird blobby monsters! Scary pointy monsters! Funny hat-wearing monsters! And at the end, kids get to see their monsters come alive on the big screen and sneak up on poor unsuspecting Fuzzy Bunny! Read to Rover Tuesday, September 24th at 7:00 p.m. Grade: K - 6th Length: 1 hour Limit: 12 children (10 minute time slots) Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy. Children in grades K-6 can come and practice reading aloud to a licensed therapy dog and build the confidence needed to be successful readers. This program is for children who already know how to read.

Scratch Art Bookmarks and Postcards Saturday, September 28th at 11:30 am Grade: 3rd - 8th Limit: 20 Length: 45 minutes Join us in creating your own unique designs with Magic Color Scratch bookmarks and post cards.

Retirement Readiness Workshop Wednesday, September 4th at 7pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Retirement Readiness Are you thinking about Retirement? Are you Retired? Do you need to start saving for Retirement? Spend some time with Anthony Di Miele, Certified Financial Educator, with the Heartland Institute of Financial Education, for a discussion on Retirement Readiness. Topics will include identifying retirement resources, developing a written strategy, avoiding mistakes when transitioning retirement assets and identifying lifetime income sources. Having a healthy lifestyle and a daily routine are also important parts of Retirement Readiness.

Cherity Machnick, LCPC, of the Stickney Township Public Health District will be presenting a workshop to learn the importance of self-care, improve emotional well-being, and build resilience.

This is Really War: The Incredible True Story of a Navy Nurse POW in the Occupied Philippines Tuesday, September 10th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Join journalist Emilie Lucchesi as she tells the amazing story of Dorothy Still, a 27-year-old California native who was imprisoned for three years by the Japanese military. Along with 11 other navy nurses, Dorothy valiantly provided medical care in the concentration camp.

Healthy and Hearty Polish Cuisine Thursday, September 12th at 6:30 pm This program is limited to 45 PTPLD cardholders. Patrons may register up to two (2) guests. Welcome Chef Michael Niksic to the library for a

demonstration of hearty and healthy Polish cooking.

Become a Census Sensei Wednesday, September 18th at 7pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. There is much more to census records than just the Federal Population Schedules! Tina Beaird will explore various types of censuses like state, school, Indian and military censuses, plus Federal census schedules like Mortality and Agriculture. Each of these can be used to enhance your family history.

Medicare Program Wednesday, September 25th at 1:30 PM No registration required Senior Advocate Annie Wells from the Stickney Township Public Health District will be offering a short presentation about Medicare.

Armed with this understanding and knowledge of the college aid process, a college education may become more affordable and less of a financial burden.
